  1. It took me about 2 years to work up to being able to catch the 5 pounders on a regular basis. I am ready to make to transition to working for the big hogs.
  2. Yes...several of them.....no way to know where they actually are.
  3. i have posted here about the 50 acre private lake i fish a lot. i have learned the techniques that get me 15 or so a day up to 5 lbs. I have caught one about 10lb, but that is only one in 3 years. The lake record so far is 14lb. There are some big bass in this lake for sure. Beautiful spring fed lake, threadfin shad, deepest section 18-20ft most of the lake is about 6-9feet pond management company keeps the color of the lake to a nice greenish color. Been catching them on plastic worms black over red shad color and at night texas rig just moving and casting toward the bank and giving the worm a couple of flicks and then keep moving. So what would be the way you guys would make a serious attempt at only big fish using plastic worms. Size....technique...speed....time on a spot....depths...etc. I am willing to devote say 1/2 of my fishing day to just targeting big fish, but dont really have any ideas right now..One thing for sure...what i am doing for the last few years is only getting me up to 5 lbers on a consistant basis. I have read the Big Bass book by Bill Murphy and can do his super slow "stitching" technique. Just wonder about other approaches. Thanks for any advice.
  4. Anybody have a good deal on one either used or new? Send me an email or a message please if you do have one to get rid of. Thanks

  6. Fishing a dock one day...got a hit on a red shad colored plastic worm..the fish was close to the boat..i stuck him too hard and broke the line at the hook....i tied on a pumpkin seed worm....cast back out to the dock....got a hit...landed the fish...there was my red worm hooked in him....got it back and released the fish.
  7. 50 acre lake i fish gets treated with whatever they put in it to maintain good water balance....fertilized, lime, etc anyway for about 3 days after they treat the lake, the fishing is not good. I dont know if the fish are stunned a bit by whatever is added, but even the management company says that they will not be very active for a few days. some days i come over to fish this lake during this time.....any opinions on what tactics i should use during this time.
  8. I do the hip wader thing. I have a 12 and 14' vhull aluminum. I just unhook the back end of the boat, back the trailer in the water, unhook the front from the winch or untie from the front post, push the boat out with a long length of rope tied to the front and walk over to the side of the ramp and tie the boat up and move the car. Reverse the job to get to boat back on the trailer..easy. I never have anyone to help me. Always done it alone. I see a lot of guys at the ramp doing it.
  9. No. Get a vhull 12' jon. You can fish in it for many years. It is lighter and the center of gravity is not so high as that plastic boat is. Those things fall apart over time. Your money...do what you want. If you insist on a plastic boat then look at a Gheenoe or a bass tender. The Gheenoe would be perfect for you. http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi?itm=gheenoe&cat=cpboat&pgs=100
  10. Craigslist has those plastic things on there all the time for cheap. I don't like them. For $200 or less you can get an old vhull jon that will ride you through rough water when the wind and rain comes up (and it will) or when a big old bass boat comes too close and will last a lifetime. I have a 12' Alumacraft vhull I bought for $125. A small trolling motor will push it around all day. A 5-10hp motor will push it wherever you need. Your asking about small boats....I have tried them and 12' is as small as I like. I might try a 10'...if I could find a wide based one...have not found one yet used.
  11. Yes. A nice fat ribbed worm with a curl tail.
  12. The bite and the hook set....you feel the tap.....hit him as fast and hard as you can! Always works for me.
  13. Don't know how to make it smaller. At least you won't forget what it looks like.
  14. Caught 15 in the 3-4 pound zone. Texas rig. Netbaits Big Bopper Red Shad
  15. I posted on this subject already, but the post from the guys fishing at night on heavy pressure lakes made me think a bit. Could you conclude that at night an entirely different bite takes place from an entirely different bunch of fish, so that really you can think of one lake as TWO separate lakes...daytime and night time??
  16. BP has the Smithwick Rogues for $4.99.
  17. You can use a heavier weight on plastics at night. Really makes great contact with the bottom and keeps the line tight so that any little tick from a fish is felt. I LOVE fishing at night. Best thing I ever got for night fishing is a visor light. When I get the strike and set the hook, I just reach up and flip the light on....perfect to see what is happening.
  18. Being outside and connecting with the surroundings is part...or rather SHOULD be a part of the whole fishing experience. I find myself stopping a lot's of times and just looking around at how wonderful the water is and the trees and the whole thing. It is a package deal.
  19. Fished a 30 acre swamp like lake down in S. Georgia friday. Beautiful lake about 5 or 6 ft. deep at the deepest and mostly 2-4 ft. Zillions of cypress trees. I was totally baffled. Caught some nice bass and a Pike using a stick bait type lure. The folks I fished with own the lake and they are the only ones who fish it. The pike they catch, they call a Jackfish, anyway they keep all the fish they catch. The Jack had a crawfish in his belly, so that is part of the food chain. Anyway the bottom is real grassy so any lure you throw with a lip dives into the grass, plastics get all hung up in the grass. The stick baits seemed to be good as they did not dive too deep. There was no top water action as the temps have just started to warm. What do you guys who fish this type of water do????? If I had some kind of pitching technique I could have used that, but what kind of lures and such?? How about live bait under a cork?? Any suggestions appreciated!!
  20. Just a warning: I have one of these and it has cost me alot more than my boat ever thought of costing. By the way apparently these depreciate alot too because if you try to trade one in you may have to pay on it for years even though you no longer have it in your possesion. ;D Catch and release, Catch and release, Catch and release.......
  21. Do a search on Craigslist. Many bargains there if you can do some modest work like clean up, carb kit, impeller, tires etc.
  22. I would not send the money in based on the 10-15 day forcast!
