  1. Great rental rods, though
  2. Yes, you can use a 7.1:1 reel with for all those applications. It may not be the optimal reel for those applications, but you can certainly use that reel. You will simply have to adjust the rate of your retrieve with certain bait - like cranks. A lot of people prefer a slower speed reel for crankbaits, with speeds of about 5:1. But a 7:1 will work just fine as long as you compensate by cranking slower. You are going to have plenty of wenching power with a 7:1 reel. Don't worry about that. Hopefully other folks will chime in with their views on reel speeds.
  3. That's cuz you guys feed them trout and bon bons.
  4. Exactly Doucet. It's pretty easy. Once you pick a number, then a color, you've narrowed the possibilities down to five numbers. Now the computer knows you picked, say, a red number. Then you pick the house with your number. But there are five houses. There is only one red number in each house. The computer knows you picked 1 of 5 red numbers, then it knows which number was red in each house. Once you click on a house, it knows which one was red and that's the answer. All the other stuff is filler to throw you off.
  5. You can use a 7.1:1 ratio reel for anything - just adjust the speed of your retrieve. It would work fine as spinnerbait reel as long as you don't crank too fast. Practice with it to get the best effect. I don't have any baitcast reels with a lower than 6.4:1 retrieve. Most of my reels are 7.1:1. But a high speed reel like that may be best for applications where cranking isn't the principal mechanism for your bait presentation, and where a quick line retrieve after your presentation is desirable. Fishing with plastics, or toads/frogs, where you principally impart action to the bait with rod motion and not the reel would be a good use for a reel that fast. I'm interested in the ASR frog rod. I don't have a dedicated frog rod. My 7'0" MH/F carolina-rig rod does double duty for frogs. If I do buy the ASR frog rod (I have to see it first), I'll be putting a 7.1:1 reel on it.
  6. I've had a Zebco and have an Abu. I like them for bluegill fishing with bobbers - too slow for really anything else. I ended up throwing my Zebco in the trash. One too many tangles inside the reel. The thing I like about the Abumatic is that the little pins that pick up the line ride in a groove on the inside of the cover. This prevents the line from slipping over the pins when there is slack in the line. Otherwise, there isn't much to choose from between them.
  7. So much for that "I is gunna ignir ingor ignor yer posts" stuff. : Anyway, back to topic - it does appear to be a lower end All Star rod - at least at this time.
  8. I'm not complainintg, but $75? How is that? It's apparently their multi-modulus IM10 blank and alconite guides? For $75? The Team All Star IM10 with aluminum oxide guides sells for $90+. I notice the ASR does not have the MADE IN TEXAS logo on their webpage. Perhaps made in China? Not saying that's bad, but otherwise the price seems very low.
  9. This is the only add I've seen anywhere on the net for the new All Star ASR rod. List price around $90?? I was expecting much higher than that. http://www.gofishin.com/?show_details=70636&desc=SHAKESPEARE_All_Star_ASR825S_ASR_Spinning_6'10%22 I'm really interested in checking this rod out when it's available. HMMM, link not working for some reason. Here is the Google search. It's the 4th one down. http://www.google.com/search?q=all+star+asr+rod&hl=en&start=10&sa=N
  10. I stopped using fluoro. I know it has some advantages, but for me the stiffness outweighed the advantages. As for advantages, apparently stretch isn't one of them - at least according to articles posted at that other website. You can read the fluoro showdown articles here: http://www.tackletour.com/menulines.html

Well they come from plants, and if you planted them in the rainforest then they would be from the rainforest. Anyways, we must save the Rainforest - just to keep Al Gore's mouth shut.
  12. I like the sure set hooks. I've noticed that when the water gets cold I tend to hook a lot of bass on the side of the face, on the gill plate or pectoral fin. I don't know why that is except that it's apparent bass are striking at the lure somehow differently than they do when it's warm (maybe a lazier strike or a side slap wit their head). I've switched the rear hooks on most of the cranks I use in cold water to sure set hook and my hook up rate (and mouth hooked) has increased. BTW, the fish in my avatar was caught on a DT with normal hooks in cold water. The rear hook was on the outside of the lip and the front hook was in the pectoral fin.
  13. I caught a shirt. I thought I had a snag, but the snag moved. So I horsed it in and it was someone's shirt they had thrown in the water.
  14. When the bass is smaller than the lure you caught him on. Otherwise, he's a trophy!!

I have heard and read this statement often, but besides aspirin, what medicines come from plants or more specifically, the rainforest? Just off the top of my head: quinine - anti-malaria opium - codine and morphine aspirin - headaches, blood thinner coca - novacaine I'm sure there's many, many others. Additonally, rainforest animals are chemical producers for medicine. A large percentage of stroke medication used to come from Malayan Pit Viper venom - a venomous snake native to the jungles of Malaysia. Thank this guy next time you survive, or know someone, who survives a stroke. On the flip side, there are 15,798,567 things in the rainforest that can kill you. > 8-)
  16. Especially at night, and even more so under lights.

You're very lucky. I wish we had pheasants in Virginia.
  18. +1 on the Spot remover. Best head I've used yet. Bagley's are great, too. I also like BPS Finesse Football Heads.
  19. Are you talking about the pier at Yorktown beach? I know there have been a few big ones caught there this season. I haven't fished there since it has been all built up. You used to be able to park under the foot of the bridge and fish there - maybe you still can. It was killer at night. And you used to be able to get passes to fish the piers at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. Again, at night, huge fish were caught. Night fishing, or extreme early morning is best along that stretch of river.

  22. Individual store sales will vary. But they will all honor the internet sale price, even when the in-store sale is over. You have to go to the customer service counter and ask for the internet sale price and they will give you a voucher to take to the cash register.
  23. I will if the glue doesn't hold or if have anymore issues I'll return it, but since I mail ordered it I figure it is less of a hassle for me to try to fix it as opposed to sending it back. I have thirty days to do an RMA. If I do return it and get a new one back, I am selling it ASAP. Anyway, how is your Revo holding up? Any problems? I have 5 and haven't had any problems. I've even managed to catch a few schoolie stripers and a blue cat on one of my Revo SCs. The only annoying thing was that thay were all under lubircated - and the documentation that comes with the reel sucks. Otherwise, they are performing fine.
  24. You just got it 6 days ago. Why are you gluing things back together? Why don't you return it for a refund?
  25. Line-X coating for my '06 Silverado was $500.
