Maybe I'm imagining it, but didn't I see a new Pinnacle reel with a flipping switch? I went through the posts and on the Pinnacle website and can't find it. I'm currently using a Revo S as my flipping reel. The Revo S is the "Warn Winch" of fishing reels. But I can't flip the clutch bar back up with my thumb like I can on my Diawas. I really like being able to do that.

It's a good, solid, proven, dependable reel. It's smooth, and casts baits down to 1/4 oz very well. It's built like a tank. The drag is second to none. I have two Revo Ss. I have one on my flipping rod and one on my Carolina Riggin' rod, both spooled with 20 lb Trilene Fluoro. Both get used hard. Both have landed big catfish, one upwards of 25-30 lbs that took a jig. I've used them both in brackish water with no ill effect.

I never owned a Techna AV, but they felt great. I do like some of the Elite Tech line. I really like my 7'3" Crankshaft, though the grip could be an inch or two longer. The new HMG line had to grow on me. I really loved the older HMGs. But I'm convinced the new HMGs are almost as light. They are just as sensitive - that is to say very sensitive. I really like the new grip material and they seem nicer all over. My favorite is my 6'6' medium heavy-medium fast. It's a perfect spinner bait rod. I use it, however, for throwing Space Monkeys (it's my dedicated Space Monkey rod). What I hate about Fenwick is their crappy website. The descriptions of the rods is exactly the same for each rod in the line. And the photos are so small you can't see anything. Their website sucks.

The Elite Tech line is broken down by fish-type with the majority of the line being bass specific. The HMG, HMX and GT lines are all heavy with bass grade rods. Not a problem for me, my local dealer stocks them, and you can order direct from Fenwick. Just thought TW's reasoning is a little off.

I remember years ago when the roller-coaster Apollo's Chariot opened at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, they had Fabio and a bunch of chicks dressed up like greek godesses take the first ride. Sourpusses don't vibrate or even put off a lot of motion when moved through the water. They excel, however, because they float. As a trailer fished on a football head jig, they kick butt. Those fat little claws float up and wave around with the slightest motion.

I'll have to stock up on them when I can find them in stores. The new Edge Rattling Vibe looks neat, though. I'll have to try some of these. Yo-Zuri makes some of the best lipless cranks out there.

Years ago Lee Hall Reservoir (proper name) was my primary fishing lake. I still fish it with some frequency, mainly because it's close to where I live. It's a good lake and offers plenty of decent sized bass. My biggest out of there is a tad over 5 lbs. Lee Hall is one of Newport News' reservoirs. The water in it is pumped from the Chickahominy River/Lake. So the weed growth in it, as well as water clarity, is very much the same. It is usually somewhat stained. There is lots of milfoil and hydrilla in the summer, and it dies back in the fall. There is lots of structure on the lake. It's a man-made lake so there are stumps other submerged structure. There are even some submerged picnic tables that actually provide nice cover if you know where they are. The shoreline is good, with several very productive blow-downs. There is quite a bit of standing structure in the water as well that is productive in the mornings and evenings, as well as anytime when the water is in the 60s-70s. There are three sections to the lake. The upper section, where you rent the boats, is the biggest. The coves are productive as well as any blow-downs you can find. But in summer, especially on weekends, you have to deal with picnicing peddle-boaters who tend to be loud, rude, and paddle right up to you to see what you are doing. This section has some shore-fishing available near the picnic areas. But these are usually crowded with kids on weekends. The center section is the best area. That's the area south of the Jefferson Avenue and I-64 bridges. To get there, you either have to put your boat out at the makeshift roadside ramp on Jefferson (which has extremely limited parking), or put out at the campground ramp and just go down under the bridge into that section. That's the section with the standing timber you see from the road. This is where I've landed my biggest bass. There is NO shorefishing available in this section. The next section, south of the center section, is beyond the railroad tracks and is closed to all fishing since it actually feeds into the water treatment plant. The lake does not permit gas motors. Electric only. That's not so bad since the best area, the center section, is a short distance from the ramp. Try it. Lee Hall is not know as a great fishing lake, mostly because people never put the time into figuring it out. It's not a huge lake, and you have to deal with the peddle-boaters at times. Otheriwse, if you put some time into it it is a very productive lake. It has some huge pickerel in it as well, and used to be stocked with northern pike, but hasn't been an many years.

Spent most of the spring remodelling a bathroom, putting in a new privacy fence, and knocking out an exterior wall and installing french-doors and a deck. Stuff like that keeps you married, but it sure does cut into fishin' time. But when mama's happy, everyone's happy.

You took that picture in Illinois? That limits what it could be. My best guess is a Midland Watersnake (Nerodia sipedon pleuralis). Okay, thanks. I have a bunch of the Sebile Magic Swimmers in 95 and 125 size. Mostly use them in the spring and fall but I'll give them a whirl in the areas you said and see what happens. I like the Sebiles very much; they've been very productive for me.

I have 5 Zillions and love them. They cast great. The drag is good and the brake is very effective. It is built like a tank. It's a fantastic workhorse reel.

The River 2 Sea Bully Wa is great. But the Step Wa sucks. Reel it too slow and it has no action. Reel it too fast and it dives and spins. It is a one-speed only frog. And getting a hook up is harder than Chinese arithmetic.

I have't tried a Rage Tail I didn't like, except maybe the Shad. Try the Space Monkey. Rigged on an spiral-lock Owner 4/0 1/8oz weighted hook. It swims just below the surface. The legs kick up and down and the hips wiggle from side to side. One of the few lures I've seen that has up/down and side-to-side motion. Since this bait has been out, it has become a confidence bait for me and has been the most productive bait I've used in the last few years.

I don't fish a lot of swimbaits. I have some small hard swim baits, though. What specifically are you using?

I fished again today. I picked up one by pitching a tube into a hole in the grass near a dock. Had a few misses on that tube as well. Got two by flipping some jigs with paca chunks near some of floating islands of vegetation. (Lost the arms of three Paca Craws to bowfin). Caught two on Rage Tail Space Monkeys in my usual fashion. 5 fish in 6 hours. All in all, a rather poor day. I'm sure you guys on southern lakes that experience the HUGE growth of hydrilla, milfoil, and spyrogira each summer understand my frustration.

Here's the scenerio: the sun is straight up, not a cloud in the sky, water pushing 85 degrees, water depth anywhere from 8-15 feet, VERY heavy milfoil and hydrilla, almost no shade on the water. Milfoil and hydrilla has matted much of the surface, and is a foot or two below the surface everywhere else. How are you going to fish this? Reason I ask is because this is what I face on my home lake from July through October when the weeds start dying back. And I'm horrible at fishing it.
