  1. I would think that the early the better at LOZ. As the weather warms boat traffic can get heavy. I am heading out to LOZ early next week weather permitting.
  2. Eakin Jig is my go to bait. As already stated it is excellent choice around rocks. As for my favorite combination PB&J Eakins jig 4" matching Chomper trailer. I have a lot of confidence in these jigs.
  3. Peter, I fish in a river similar to the one you described for smallies. I suggest if it is a slow moving current I throw a Zoom trickworm weightless T-riged, Watermelon Candy or Pumpkinseed. Another softplastic i throw is a a Hula Grub made by chompers with a small jig head weight attached. I have never had to deviate from these two baits for river smallies. They simply tear it up. Good luck.
  4. RW, I agree big baits catch big bass with most of my big bass caught around 10 am in deep water, but didnt you catch your personal best using a Norman Fat Boy?I assume you were in shallow water. I picked up a few Fat Boys and cant wait to use them. Thanks
  5. Welcome. Being from Ohio (now reside in St. louis) near where you from, the best tine to go is in mid-late April. About anything in the old tackle box will work then. However, I have caught some nice fish in March working a jig slowly. Although the number of bites you get this time of year are fewer you might get your arm broke if your not careful.
  6. Agreed not a fan of how he handles the fish, but I do enjoy watching any fishing show. I usually pick up some tid-bit of information along the way. I do wonder what it would be like pulling in hwg after hawg and getting paid for it!!!!!!!!!
  7. My advice is pick up some Eakins Jig (Peanut Butter and Jelly) and use Chompers Hula Grub matching the jig. I have slayed them with this combo. It is my go to bait.
  8. I use a device called a plug knocker. It saved me over $100 bucks the last year. It is basically a snap swival with a 2 oz lead wieght that you attach to you line when you get snagged. The plug knocker slides down the line to your lure. You then shake the rod tip up and down and the weight knockes the lure free. I should mass produce them, I bet I make a mint.
  9. Interesting information. I am going to order some Fat Ikas. RW, I know you mentioned the darker colors but have you tried any of the lighter ones. Exactly what is the Fat Ika supposed to immitate?
