Bass Wouldn't Commit To My Swimbait
Couple of things. Speed up your retrieve. Use some sort or scent. Retrieve all the way to the boat.

Jigs Or Swimbaits
This is dead on. I fish swimbaits (big ones) almost 80 percent of the time. When I am not throwing a swimbait I will usually be tossing a jig. No doubt that the jig produces a lot more numbers. With the swimbait the fish will be bigger on average. To the orginal poster. I would suggest getting a solid MH rod since you might not like fishing with swimbaits. Plus you are only tossing a 4"BBZ which any MH rod will handle. Most people get a dedicated swimbait setup when they want to go bigger (greater than 6")

Best Lures For Boils?
I had some good success this year thrown a 6" Huddleston ROF12 in the middle of the boils. I used to go spook/gunfish and had some success. Then moved to an X-rap which I think got bit a little better. The thing about the Hudd is it sinks fast and I think maybe that gets down to the better fish or maybe its the bigger profile draws out the bigger fish?????

Jig Trailers
Those Rage Tails are really good baits.

Jig Trailers
Bass metabolism is slowed way down. Yes, a bass could opt for a big easy meal, but usually don't exert much energy try to capture their prey. As for the winter month, downsizing the jig profile and working it slowly will get you more bites. Go ask Denny Brauer. I know when I fish LOZ I downside to the smallest jig I can get away with in the winter to remain in contact with the bottom.

Buying A Jig Rod
Cool. I have been thinking about 854 NRX, but decided to spend it on the 873 carolina rig instead. I love the 854 GLX for 10' worms, but tended to stick with the MBR 844 for jigs. Maybe I will upgrade this spring. Once can only hope that Loomis releases a 894 NRX. That would be sweet.

Buying A Jig Rod
That is a pretty big statement. Most people consider the MBR 844 the best jig rod ever made. I own the 893 NRX I think its a little out of its element beyond 1/2 oz. Do I like my NRXs? Sure, they are awesome, but so is the GLX.

Jig Trailers
You will get more bites in cold water with a small jig than a bulky ones when water temps are in the low 40s.
-
Jig Trailers
Yes, for cold water or if you want to very the fall of the jig. In cold water I like to downsize the jig and trailer as much as possible.

Lead Or Tungsten?
3/4 to 1.25 oz depending on growth. Tungsten with R.I. Sweet Beaver and Paycheck Punch skirt is the nuts IMO.

Swimbaits
Why not try a 3:16 Rising Son. Awesome baits.

Your #1 Bait
I would have to say Jig since I can fish all year around and get bit.

Curado 50E Opinions
No chance. I would go up to a 300 series reel. You might want to check out the round reels like the Cardiff and Calcutta B and TE series. I prefer round reels for larger swimbaits.

New Shimanos At Tackle Warehouse
Those MG are great little reels. I wish they would come out with a 2011 version.

Glass Crank Rod Opinions
Yeah I had a 754 for years before I traded it in. It was a good rod.

Glass Crank Rod Opinions
The 704 is really good for wiggle wart (which I throw a lot) and R.C. 1.5 cranks. You might want to go bigger if you plan on going deeper in than 10 feet. Either 705 or step up to the 764CB RM (its not glass).

I haven't seen one THAT bad in a long while. Need some help?

Glass Crank Rod Opinions
Can't wait to try that rod a little more. Dobyns makes a solid lineup of cranking stick. The 704 is a perfect wiggle wart and RC 1.5. The 805 is a beast for deep cranking.

Glass Crank Rod Opinions
You might not like that glass feel. Don't sleep on the Powell rods also. They make a nice cranking stick and the price is right too.

Glass Crank Rod Opinions
I just sold it today. Someone got a good all around cranking stick. Lamiglas still sells that same blank in their cranking rod lineup. The only difference being it does not say Skeet Reese and the blank is black instead of yellow.
