  1. Nice story and pictures, sounds like you guys had a good time with the exception of the reel going in the water. I fish with my son a lot and really enjoy it the only problem is he usually out fishee me lately.
  2. Good job, those are some nice looking fish, I dig the baits to.
  3. My buddy and I fished a bay off of the Potomac River that is part of the Quantico Marine Corp Base. We launched during the incoming tide and immediately began fishing the lily pads with buzzbaits. Within the first hour we each caught a 2lb LMB and then the bite just fell off. I don't know if it was due to all of the ordinances being blown up close to the bay we were fishing in or what, but this spot has never gone cold like this before. The last two hours of the incoming tide and the first couple of hours of the outgoing tide are usually the best fishing at this spot. After not getting another bite for about an hour or so we decided to start working the lily pads and hydrilla with frogs, I used the strike king rage tails and my buddy used the ribbit frogs. We had quite a few strikes however most of them were striking short tearing up the legs of the frogs. The explosions were cool to watch but it was heartbreaking to not land these. I fished for about an hour with the frog and had nothing to show for my effort so I decided to tie on a new spinnerbait (a Raptor 1/4oz tan herring with dual willow blades) that I just picked up Thursday night. On the first cast I felt something hit it hard, I set the hook and reeled it in only to find a snakehead at the end of my line, my second one in two weeks, this ticks me off. > We continued fishing for another hour or so before we started heading back to the ramp, on the way back my buddy landed a nice 3.5lb LMB with his frog off of a downed tree in the water. I decided to follow up in that same area with my spinnerbait. Once the spinnerbait hit the water I watched a huge wake come toward it and I continued to watch it follow the spinnerbait all the way back to the side of the canoe. I then got my first glimpse he looked big and then he hit the spinnerbait, I immediately set the hook and the fight began. The bass jumped and I got a real nice look at it, he looked to be an easy 7lbs. Well I fought him for about a minute before he tried to go under the canoe and I pulled him back only to watch him jump again and throw my spinnerbait. :'( Once I lost him we called it a day.
  4. Thanks guys, I am not sure if I will be fishing Aquia tomorrow or a location on the Quantico MCB, but I do appreciate the feedback. I know a sweet spot that has a lot of pads and hydrilla and it is a real good producer of LMBs.
  5. Sounds like a good day, I look forward to seeing the pictures.
  6. Where does the no wake zone begin and end? The marina I am looking at launching at is the one that is at the back of the harbour, I am guessing it is in the no wake zone area. I need some more feedback on the back end on the harbour where the creek meets it. Is it worth fishing that area? Am I better off launching closer to the Potomac and put the bass boat in the water instead of the canoe?
  7. How is the fishing in this area? It looks like it has a lot of pads and grass so I would think there would be good frog fishing here. Thoughts? I am thinking of puting my canoe in at Aquia Harbour Marina so I can fish those pads and grass this weekend. The canoe allows me to cruise right into the middle of them and fish.
  8. I love the frogs and can hardly wait to see and try out the new anacondas and lobsters.

Anyone heard of "The Raptor" spinnerbaits? They have a head with a twist and flex midsection that moves 360 degrees to stop the bass from throwing the bait, they look pretty cool. Has anyone tried these yet? I just picked up two different ones to try out this weekend.

  11. The spot in my boat is now taken. I will let you guys know how we do.
  12. No you do not need a military id. You just need to purchase a Quantico MCB fishing license. If you take exit 148 west off of 95 and go toward the FBI Academy there is a building on the left before you reach the security checkpoint where you can buy your license. Just remeber to bring an ID (drivers license) with you. Once you get one you can fish at all of the locations on base. It is a pretty sweet deal for only $10. There are a lot of lakes and ponds on base to fish as well as Quantico Bay and Chopawamsic Bay. to the forum
  13. Anyone interested in some frog and buzzbait fishing at Quantico MCB Saturday morning? This requires a Quantico MCB fishing license which can be purchased on base near Lake Lunga for $10 and it is good for one year. If anyone is interested send me a pm.
  14. I use permanent markers to fix mine.
  15. I don't know about the looking for the cheapest spinnerbait, the video was funny though.

  18. Congrats on the new smallie PB
  19. Thats pretty cool, thanks for sharing that Glenn.
  20. to the forum. My son and I just fished Algonkian from my canoe last week, we caught close to 30 smallies. While we were there we saw a lot of people fishing from shore. I don't know how good the fishing is from the shore, but they have a lot of shoreline to fish from.
  21. I have been drinking Budweiser for almost 30 years and I must say I am exteremly disappointed that Anheuser-Busch sold out to InBev.
  22. Not really a big Gulp fan but the bait looks pretty cool. I would love to hear some feedback on them before I make a purchase.
  23. I like the toads the best. I have been catching a lot of lmbs using them.
  24. I would like to second what JCrzy4Bass said. Andy is a really close friend and my families thoughts and prayers are with him and his family for a safe return. Andy please let us know where Jay and I can send care packages for you. When you get back we are going to have a big welcome back party/cookout at my house any Bass Resource forum members that would like to attend are more than welcome to come. I know this will not be for quite some time as his deployment is for 14 months but we are honored to be able to do this for him and his family when he returns.
