  1. You don't have a high enough number for me. I just bought a new canoe and a bunch of gear. I most likely average at least $100 a month if I exclude big ticket items (rods, reels, boats).
  2. Nice hawg I think it looks bigger than 4lbs, I would say 5 to 6.
  3. I went out fishing this morning with a buddy of mine from work. I decided that I would try to learn to fish a new bait (frogs). We put in my canoe in a bay off of the Potomac river that has lots of pads and hydrilla. We started with buzzbaits and each caught one keeper. Then we switched to spinnerbaits and chatterfrogs and each landed 1 fish. After that we both switched over to throwing frogs, I used the Ragetail frogs and my buddy used another manufacturer. Before my first cast my buddy told me one thing, I will loose more fish than I will catch. Well he was 100 percent on the money with that statement. I landed 1 keeper and lost 4 due to the fish breaking free when they went into the heavy cover. I tried to horse one of them out of the pads and hydrilla since I had 30lb braid but I just ripped the fish up and he got loose right as I was trying to lip him. My biggest of the day (looked to be at least 4lbs) jumped out of the water and did a nice tail dance then dove into heavy cover and broke free. Man I must say frog fishing can be frustrating but it is also a lot of fun when you fianally pull one into the boat. My buddy and I landed a total of 8 bass today, 3 on buzzbaits, 1 on a spinnerbait, 1 on a chatterfrog and 3 on frogs. The frog fishing was by far the most fun due to the huge explosions on top water. I now have the confidence to throw frogs in the thickest of cover.
  4. Nice hawg you got there.
  5. Those are some nice looking fish.
  6. I throw it out let it sink for a few seconds, give it a couple of quick jerks, reel in the slack and then repeat the process.
  7. I would say it is at least a solid 4 pounds maybe 4.5 lbs. Congrats, those are two nice looking bass.
  8. Glad to hear you made it back safe. We also had a storm sneak up on us and soak us pretty good on one fishing trip. I fired up the gas motor and ran full speed back to the dock on a lake that is no wake with the rain pouring down hard. We were completely soaked as was all of our gear and the boat, luckily we did not have to deal with lightning. The weather forecast is just that a forecast. I now keep an emergency radio set on the weather channel and pay close attention. If it reports a storm on the way we get out of the water immediately.

Those are some nice looking fish, good job.
  10. The Manns series has been red hot for me this year.
  11. Congrats to your wife.
  12. This was by far our best trip ever, I had a blast Jay. I see many great canoe trips in our future. This opens up a whole new way of fishing for us now that we have the canoe, we can fish areas that we only had shore acess to previously. This trip was cool because I fished with my son and because I finally caught some bass on a buzzbait for the first time, those bass were killing the Cavitron buzzbaits. I have never seen so many top water strikes happen that fast and furious. It was nice to see you get out of your slump and tear it up on the water. You beat me pretty good this time, you out fished me by 2lbs 14ozs, I am hoping to do better next week and be more competitive. I am really looking forward to next Saturday's trip so we can catch some new PBs. I think we found a spot that is going to produce some nice hawgs in the future. I even went out last night and bought us some more (different) Cavitron buzzbaits to tear it up again next week based on the success we had with them.

  19. I just got back from Dicks, I bought 4 more Cavitron buzzbaits because of how well it performed today.
  20. Well I have to say I am now a believer of the Cavitron buzzbait. My son and I ripped some lips this morning throwing these. My biggest two of the morning went 3lbs 1 oz and 2lbs 7ozs. What a great topwater bait, I am really impressed with how well we did. My son out fished me using a Cavitron but I will let him put an entry in this thread letting you know how he did when he gets a minute.
  21. We had a good day at Quantico today. Jay will be writing a thread on it and posting the pictures later today.
