  1. Thank you all for your replies......I greatly appreciate it. What I meant for soft bait vs. Lure....I meant leave a worm T-Rigged on one rod...then just use the other for lures. Reading your responses...I think I will look at a baitcast reel, put braided line on and use a leader. Would this work? Is there a half decent baitcast reel for around $60 or so....and if I was to look for a used one, what should I stay away from? BTW....Danielle...I was fishing this evening...caught 3 fish...retied my line and put on a new hook...next fish was 6 lbs....My biggest fish ever... Thanks again all
  2. I apologize if this has been answered...I did a couple of searches and found nothing. My question is two fold. I just started fishing and went out and bought myself a half decent Spinning Rod Combo. I do not use leaders or snaps and find it to be a pain in th (_!_) as well as the pocket to always cut my line and tie on a different lure or T-Rig a worm. this coupled with cutting a foot of line after every 3 fish or a bad snag is making go through line like crazy. I would like to have 2 rods...one for soft bait and one for lures.....therefore if the fish misses the topwater I can throw the worm and/or trying different presentations without having to be constantly change my setup. Firstly....Do people use Leaders or snaps...I have seen conflicting posts. Secondly.....What if any is the advantage of a baitcasting Reel? Thanks in advance
  3. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has contributed information on this site. Every question I had (regardless of how simplistic it was) was answered with great information and I never felt like I was being condescended. As well....The huge amounts of information on here is incredible. From the Senko/Plastic Bait Tips, Knots, Rigs to Learning how to safely remove a hook from a fish that was Gut Hooked. My wife is also enjoying herself fishing as well. I attribute our enjoyment to this site and the helpfulness that has lessened our learning curve and allowed us to catch a few fish. Again thanks and hopefully in time I may be able to assist others as well.
  4. Here are a couple of pictures of my wife and I with a couple of our catches tonight. I am very surprised my wife actually enjoys it.....If she could find a way to Hunt and Release I am sure I would have a new Hunting Partner. If my wife sees that I posted a picture of her looking like that I am gonna get in SH_T !!! LOL I ordered a digital scal online so I have no idea of weight... Me with my 16" My wife Heather with her 2 fish a 15 1/2" and a 13 1/2" (The one on the right was Gut Hooked and thankfully I read this post There was a little blood but the fish was fine !) http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187355723/0#0 Thanks again everyone for all of the advice...I am sure I will have more questions
  5. Those are at my local Canadian Tire....I was looking at them the other day. Should I put a weight on them or just toss them onto the lillies and weeds weightless ? Thanks
  6. The 5 year old being scared may have more to do with his confidence than anything else....If you provide him with that which he has not had...."Non-Useless " environment......You will definitely see this improve over time....Patience is a virtue in these cases. My wife and I foster and see this alot.... For the boredom part....try adding incentives and or HUGE AMOUNTS OF PRAISE to the enjoyment of the activity. Just my 2 cents
  7. I am learning about the Bait Monkey. I am quite sure my wife has a cure for it though.
  8. In the evening I am just using a Texas rigged worm and letting it sink then reeling it in slow...If it hits bottom. I found out how to catch a few in the day......I casted a fake frog looking lure onto the weedbeds and lilly pads and skipped or twitched it across and they would eventually hit it. I did not realize until someone told me that Bass do not have eyelids so they do not like the sun so will hide under cover during the day. I am now looking for a 14' Aluminum boat to get out to the actual lake. My wife caught 2 tonight.....Her first 2 fish ever...now she is excited about it...LOL She could not believe how heavy they felt in the water...one she caught was just about 3 lbs.... Now I just have to get her to learn to get them off the hook....cuz my thumb looks like I ran it over a belt sander. As someone mentioned earlier....I am going to order a Spro Bronzeye Frog to use during the day. I am glad I have my own Business....cuz I am not gonna get any work done for a while....
  9. You are an incredible help...I love learning new things and to find something that can keep me busy outside while there is no open hunt season welcoming. I love the stuff about what type of hooks and sizes as well as different baits to use cuz I have no clue and have been looking at alot of posts on here. The Senko post is great....
  10. If anyone has input on this topic... I am very new to fishing...First Week.....And this forum has been awesome.... My wife and I were out tonight and I caught 7 fish in 1 1/2 hours but my poor wife could not set a hook to bring one in...she lost at least 6. She had the exact same set up as I (Aberdeen hook with Texas Rigged 7" Powerbait worm) and seemed to be doing exactly what I was doing...problem is I have no idea what I was doing with the exception of setting the hook based on the feel of the Hit. Any advice would be appreciated cuz she was getting pretty discouraged and I would love to have her come back there with me. Here are my other posts of the Lake that is at the backside of my property that I just found out had been stocked with bass...I have been here for 4 years and never thought to fish it. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=usersrecentposts;username=brooks
  11. I have moved the thread to Here because I am looking to get some advice on fishing this spot during the day and what lures, bait I should use. I added some pictures of the fish I am catching there. (My god I am gonna be broke when I go to Bass Pro) http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187466317/0
  12. Here are a few pictures of the Largemouth I am pulling out of the lake on the backside of my property. These 7 fish were all caught within 1 1/2 hours from 7 - 8:30. They have all been released !!!....Just Wanted a picture of them. I was using (as I have learned) an Aberdeen Hook with a 7" Powerbait Worm Texas Rigged (learned that too). Problem is I have been back there during the day and have not caught anything but small ones. I do not have a boat to get to deeper water...I can really only get to this one spot. (See other post for pictures) http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187322380/10 Is there a lure or something that I could use during the day that would get them to bite? Any and all advice is welcome
  13. I do not mean to cross post but my first Question in the Rod/Reel sections was answered and the discussion has moved towards what I should be using......Read the thread below and Please if you have any advice please let me know...I love learning new things http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187322380 There are some pictures on the 2nd page of the lake that is at the backside of my property if pictures will help with experience in like places Thanks in Advance
  14. That setup with the needle through the worm worked well.....Although I still did not catch anything but small ones this afternoon.....I am unable to get out to deeper water. I am gonna head back tonight around 6:00 and will try it again as it seems that I am only able to catch the larger ones in the evening...I brought my Camera today in hopes of getting a few shots of some fish > ...but here are more pictures of the lake. Again...Thanks for all of the advice....Please do not hesitate in providing me with any hints/tips you may have...I am completely ignorant when it comes to fishing. The 3 pictures are: the north side of the causeway, the causeway where I sit on my ATV and the south side of the causeway. If these pictures stir up advice I would love to hear it. North Side Causeway South Side
  15. Is there anything I can do during the day to get the bigger ones to Hit? Thanks
  16. I have been going to our Bass Pro Shops many times since it opened about 2-3 years ago and I have never been on the second level (hunting section) of that store. That is funny.... ;D I have been to Bass Pro in Toronto a couple of times and the ones in North Carolina and Florida....and have yet to step foot in the Fishing Sections of any of them.
  17. Alright.....I went back there today and This is what happened. I was there from 1:00 - 3:30 and only caught 3 good sized fish and maybe 4 small ones Went back tonight from 7 - 8:45 and caught 5 great sized fish maybe 4 lbs. One was really big about 18 1/2". It was the same length as the floor board of my 4-wheeler. Guessing at weight I would have to say at least 6 lbs. I was using a Berkley Powerbait worm on a Texas Rigged onto a Rig Hook...(I have been busy reading about stuff) I would throw it in, let it sink then reel in really slow...I am not twitching the rod or anything just reeling OK Here are my Questions. Why in the evening am I getting more hits and Bigger Fish and during the day smaller fish and less hits? Is it depth, time of day, action of the worm...... I did not take any pics today as it was raining on and off all day so I left my Camera at home.
  18. I think I will search for that around here...then end up at Bass Pro here in Ontario....2 hour drive but definitely worth it, I have never been in their fishing section, have always wandered in the Hunting Sections and unloaded stupid amounts of money on Hunting Gear.. I am going to be broke if I go to Bass Pro LOL Thanks....WoW It is hilarious that you mentioned the Ugly Stick....That is the rod I was thinking of when I started looking for equipment, then got confused and ended up here. LOL I am going to pick up some new line for my current reel and rod. The stuff on there is probably the line that came with the rod and reel when It was bought. I am planning on heading back today at some point after picking up some stuff so I will give you an update. Here is another picture I found of the lake....I am 2nd from the left Thanks Again...you have been so helpful
  19. Thanks for the advice.....I am used to Spinning Reels for the most part and will probably stay with one of those. I figure to spend about $40 - $90 on a reel...or a rod reel combo on the high end. I can see maybe 2 feet into the water. probably more if I had a boat and could get out further. I figure my line is dropping to about 5 feet in some places and maybe 7 feet in other spots. Would Spinner baits get snagged alot ? Also....Should I just reel in normally or jerk the rod a bit as I am reeling.... Thanks again
  20. I am sorry for my ignorance...what is that and where would I find it? I am in Ontario, Canada
  21. Hey all...There is a lake on the backside of my property, I was told when we moved here 5 years ago that it was stocked with Bass in the mid 80's ....I don't really fish.....Only hunt...so I never had the inclination to head back there.......>WELL I went back for a 4 wheeler ride with my 23 yr. old rod and reel, some plastic worms I bought at a yard sale 5 years ago....and I knew it was pretty weedy so I dug out a few weedless hooks from my deceased Grandfathers tackle Box that I inherited I can really only get out to one spot because of overgrowth and was only casting about 20 feet out....Lo and Be Hold I caught 9 Large Mouth Bass within 45 minutes.....smallest about 2 lbs....and the biggest....god knows...I am surprised the old line held up. I was getting other bites but am sure I was not setting the hook properly on them....I will learn the timing I am sure. SO as you can imagine I now feel the need update some of my gear. I am used to the normal type of spool reel but saw on BassPro something called a BaitCast reel..... What kind of reel (not too expensive) would you recommend as well as some other types of set-ups, baits or lures.... I found out about a Texas Rig on another site and will certainly try that out. Here is a picture of part of the lake and the amount of lillypads and weeds Thanks in Advance and any and all advice is appreciated
