  1. Great catch! I have been fishing frogs predominantly this year and it is BLAST!!! I caught one 2 nights ago that exploded so far out of the lily pads on my black Booyah that I could see the white belly. Sure gets your adrenaline going. Congrats!!
  2. Thanks! No just a small lake on the backside of my property.
  3. LoL - She gets that from me. I wear a glove 95% of the time now. Honestly don't know why more C&R people don't. Aside from the time I got a treble buried in the heel of hand, I find I get a 100% better grip which allows me to get the hook out way easier and faster and in turn reduces the stress on the fish. Just my experiences in the last 3 years I have been using one. I own my own business and I fish about 3-5x a week and catch on average 10 / outing. Bass thumb is great and all but when dealing with clients having a hand that looks like a foot that has been sitting in a WWI trench at Passchendaele for a month during the wet season does not always make the best impression. I use a neoprene glove with "grippy stuff" on it , forget where I got it. Seriously try it once and I swear you will notice a 100% grip increase in handling the fish and removing the hook.
  4. Congrats..... it always starts with just one. You will now find yourself driving past bodies of water thinking... "I bet there is good fishin' there!"
  5. There is really not much that is more fun than having someone that doesn't fish often out-fish you. She comes back to the lake maybe 5x a year with me and I go back about 3-4 times a week. She caught 3 or 4 this size and about 6 others that were a bit smaller. Highlight was a 9" 1.3lb Bluegill that I regret not taking a picture of. It had beautiful colouring and after I looked it up was only 2" and .5 lb off of the provincial record. The Bluegill took a 5" senko on a 3/0 hook. The pictured fish was caught around 5:00 with a Pflueger President, BPS Xtreme 6'6" MH with 30lb braid and a T-rigged Berkley Tequila Sunrise powerworm. Near Peterborough Ontario
  6. She shrieked.... "I think its big!" Caught it between 2 sunken logs with a Pflueger President reel, a 6'6" BPS Xtreme MH rod with a weightless Berkley Tequila Sunrise Power Worm on a 3/0 offset. She muscled it between the logs like a champ. I would rather her catch this than me catch 3 that size. I was so happy for her. Near Peterborough, Ontario
  7. I have been fishing hollow body frogs primarily this year and have found that hook ups are generally the same with the ones I use. The big difference is durability. Spro Bronze Eye - extremely high durability and very little wear considering I use these the most. Rarely if ever get hung up in lily pads. 80% hook up Live Target - Very soft and pliable, the hooks will "disengage" from the body which increases the hook up as well. Have found that the hook has pierced the body a few times. Also it seems that the paint? / pattern is wearing a bit after 6 or so outings. 75% hook up Matzuo Kroaker - A little less durable and tend to land upside down more often than the others. Have had to modify the body on both I have because it wasn't releasing enough air when squished. Hook ups have been approx 75% Forget the name of this one - Hook ups have been about 80% but as you can see the durability leaves a lot to be desired. This is only after 5 or so outings.http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/gallery/image/6778-unknown-frog-underside/ http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/gallery/image/6779-unknown-frog-side-view/ I use 2 set ups . a shimano citica coupled to an bps xtreme 7' medium heavy with 30lb braid and a Pflueger President with a bps xtreme medium heavy with 30lb braid. I always have them tied directly with a palomar knot I used to throw way more plastics about 90% of the time. I am now throwing hollow bodies 80% vs 20% plastics. All in all I have had an absolute blast this far this year with hollow bodies as I was getting a bit bored of throwing plastics.
  8. I am just east of Peterborough, Near Rice Lake Noticed you were in Port, My parents have a place right on Scugog Long Haul without fishing up here isn't it.....
  9. X2 What he said.....Get it to a shop ASAP
  10. x3 I went through this last year a bit ...... I heard somewhere that Largemouth will actually head below baitfish feeding and clean up any bits falling.... Don't know if it's true....but I will continue to follow up small taps with a plastic
  11. Those are a couple of nice Ontario Bass - Hooked We also had a great opening weekend here in Ontario.... I spent opening day on the lake on our property, then Sunday and Monday evening with the Family in a new spot we found. I need a card reader for my Camera card as I believe my camera may have crapped out... bought a new one but has a different Flash Card...Hope to post some pics soon. My wife and daughter caught 10 combined fish Monday evening.... All in All it was a great opeming weekend... BTW. I believe Bass opens later because of the Spawn....They have a shorter time frame to mature here in Canada before the cold weather hits.
  12. We went out on Monday evening to a spot I believed looked promising for Largies. (Bass just opened for us up here) In 2 hours the 3 of us pulled in 15 largemouth, average being maybe 2 lbs. and the largest maybe 3.5 lbs The best of it was....Our 11 year old who had only ever caught 1 big Largemouth, caught 6 good sized fish...... I could actually see her learning as the night went on. Her first fish she had the rod tip way over her back....with tons of line between her and the fish. By her 3rd - 6th fish she was recognizing a hit, setting the hook well, reeling down great and muscling the Bass in through the weeds...I was so proud. I only started fishing last year and she never really showed interest until now....I caught her yesterday in my tackle box picking out some lures she wants to try out. I have her using a Zebco 33 with a 6' Ugly Stick.... I will post a couple of pics later as I am charging the batteries on my camera. BTW...Fish Count Little One: 6 My Wife: 4 Me: 5 Again I want to thank everyone on here who helped me learn tactics and strategies to help catch fish....It has opened a whole new way for our family to enjoy time together.
  13. I do not nor have ever fished with anyone who uses a BaitCaster....When I picked up my first one.....I felt it to be more comfortable and controllable when I palmed it. I just thought I was strange....
  14. Bass opens for us tomorrow....It has been a looooong wait. I haven't fished for Bass since early October of last year. Planning on Heading back to my lake Saturday with our new to us boat....then heading over to the lake my parents live on to take my dad out for the day Sunday. Get ready for a whole whack of pics from those of us in Ontario. Have a great weekend and Happy Independence Day.
  15. I drive nothing but VW's....and my Ford Truck The Golf is a great car. I had a '97 GTI....and was rear ended by someone doing about 40 mph and was sandwiched into the back of a cavalier. The car that hit me was a Buick Regal....both the Regal and the Cavalier were written off. I drove to the reporting centre then to the VW Dealership.... The cop that showed up at the accident called me later and told me he bought his daughter a VW Golf based on how I and my car fared. I was sore as hell for a week or so....But it could have been way worse. I drive about 100 000 miles a year and have never had an issue with any VW....
  16. Thnx again everyone.... Wonder if I can expense my fishing license? Also...I will probably just buy a mid range rod n reel there. If anyone knows of a less fortunate kid who would want it, I could leave it at the desk of the Hotel to be picked up..... PM Me
  17. Awesome information...... What will I have to do to get a Non-Resident Fishing License? Again Thanks
  18. Be careful on Rice Targeting Bass for the next couple of weeks... Lots of MNR Officers have been checking. I was checked 3 times in one day. BTW... Nice fish
  19. I use Braid with a Fluorocarbon Leader...I mate the 2 lines with an Albright Knot. http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com I keep my Spool of Fluorocarbon handy and I retie after every 2-3 fish and/or snags. If I feel it has been stretched I will retie regardless. I also put on a new leader every time I head out. Losing a fish and losing a lure just plain old SUCKS !
  20. I am going to be near Dallas August 25-28 and will be staying at the convention centre on GrapeVine Lake. Does anyone know this area....I did some research and it is said that is good for Largemouth. How is the shore fishing there? Is it worth my while to bring any gear and sneak out of my convention a few times to wet a line? Thanks in advance Steve
  21. I picked up a 8wt 9' St. Croix earlier. Our Bass Season opens on the 28th of June....I hope all of my dry land practicing has paid off. We cannot target OOS fish here in Ontario so....I couldn't even practice. I will certainly post my experiences on here.... Good Luck
  22. Sorry just want to clarify what you are seeing. That fish is a Pike . . . . Pickerel & Walleye Same Thing
  23. He went from a Teenager to a Man in front of the public How did your body type differ from 17 - 30 ? You add 13 years of athletic conditioning to that and this change.... Like you said...>"Do a little research"
