Anyone ever Fly for Large Mouth
I just picked up an 8wt 9' St.Croix Fly Rod and Reel that I intend to try out this season for Large Mouth back at my lake. I was told it is a different experience, which I believe would be the case. It was an awesome deal on the rod/reel with case and line so I bought it. No I have to learn...... Has anyone ever fly fished for Bass, If so point me in the right direction. I did a search on here and didn't find anything. Thanks in Advance

You guys who are fishing are KILLIN' Me
It is actually quite logical, Here LM Spawn up until as late as July, (I do not know about other places) They protect their eggs as opposed to Trout that do not. That is the reasoning I have been given anyways

No we cannot "target" out of season fish....Do not think they will believe me if I said I was fishing for perch if they found me with my Gear. Or if during Trout I am hanging out at a weed bed in the shallows with a Texas rigged Worm with a 4/0 hook. Hopefully I can get out on a nice Trout Lake a few weekends or in a creek or stream

Plus A new to me 14' Aluminum..... Trout opens here next weekend and so does Turkey Season so I can keep myself somewhat busy ....Going to BassPro tonight to now get a couple of Light setups for my wife and I, and a new Turkey Vest I still have 73 days until Bass Season Opens :-/

Small fish going after my line....
Thanks all I thought I was alone on this.....Or I was going crazy.
-
Small fish going after my line....
Yeah I am sure it is above the worm....I know they go after the tail of the worm.....they do that too...... BUT I can actually see them about 3 feet down on maybe 8 feet of water.....taking the line in their mouth and swimming with it.

Small fish going after my line....
I searched all over and have found nothing on this. When I am fishing my plastics I keep getting what seems to be a 1/2 decent hit...when I move my line/worm to feel for tension I am catching sight of what usually is a yellow perch, pulling on my line well above the worm. I can actually see them suspended and playing with my line.... Is my Line too visible? (I am using 12 lb clear Trilene) and I am assuming this is weakening my line as it happens constantly..... Is this normal.....Should I be learning something from this? I just do not have a clue.

Careers... chat/advice
You seem to be quite diverse in your interests........Find an industry you enjoy...could be fishing and start contacting companies in that industry for a SALES Position. Having the ability to relate to others and having diversity in your interests and knowledge is a huge plus. I started my career as a sales rep...moved to training.....moved back to sales...then to management and now own my own business. The skills you learn in sales are transferable to a multitude of industries. If you understand Automotive/Cars look into that industry....same as computers and technology. And god forbid you find a company like Rapala, ***..(nudge-nudge), Shimano where you can represent their products and companies. You can also become independent and that is where companies like *** come in.....Have a line of products and vendors who you can represent and get their products into stores that they otherwise may not be able to or have the time to. Just my .02 Hope that helps

Absolute Newbie to Bass fishing
x10 What everyone said.....This site is the best.....I am also new and everyone on here is awesome. I cannot say enough about everyone... Short Version of what I have learned and hope you can use it to lessen any frustrations The Texas Rig is your best friend Learn the Polomor Knot .... then continue to practice other knots Re-Tie your line (cut off a section of line) and put on a new hook every bad snag and/or every 3 fish. Fish SLOW...then fish SLOWER than you were when you thought that was slow. I am bad for this : ....Stick with what is working....Just because you want to use that fancy lure you just bought...If it isn't getting hits....try it another day + TONNES more Do not feel dumb for asking questions I have asked the most basic questions and have never felt condescended.... everyone here is GREAT

fishing a rubber worm
Like everyone above said...SLOW I just started this year and have learned tons on here. Cast out your T-Rigged "Plastic Worm" Weightless....If you have a lot of wind, deep water and/or heavy weeds use a small bullet weight. Cast your worm out.....Let it sink to the bottom....WATCH YOUR LINE !!! ....75% of my catches on worms hit on the fall. If nothing hits on the fall, let the worm sit on the bottom for minimum 30 seconds...take a sip of you beverage or something. Then sweep your line, so the worm moves on the bottom reel in the slack, let sit for a few seconds...repeat until you feel you are out of the strike zone. I may sometimes cast out and start reeling as the worm is hitting the water and buzz it across the to a few feet, then let it drop. Use a good 3/0 or 4/0 hook so the T-Rigged worm presents properly. Hope this helps...I am just regurgitating the info I have learned from everyone on here and I have had great success with 7" Berkley Power Bait...but think I could maybe use a Gummi Worm some nights.

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
I got my Frog back today....didn't get a boat.... It took me about 20 casts but I was able to snag it with a Jotterbug.....WooHoo I think I was more impressed with my accuracy with my baitcaster and getting my Frog back than I was catching a fish while trying to get the frog. The info on here has lessened my learning curve immensely. Thanks to everyone

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
Almost forgot....... For people just starting to learn to use a baitcaster...... I did not see this anywhere and I wanted to mention it. When casting do not get freaked out if you feel the line getting loose while the cast is in the air...It will work itself out 95% of the time. I found the first 50 or so practice casts that I was thumbing the spool unnecessarily when I felt the line get loose....I then started to just feather the spool to slow it down and the birds nests never came.

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
Everything went well tonight...Used my Spinning gear for my weightless worm and used my Citica for my heavier lures...Only Backlashed a couple of times. UNTIL.......I cast out my SPRO Bronzeye Frog....($11.49 + TAX) here in Canada ........ And "PING!!!!!" Line breaks Bye Bye Bronzeye...I am hoping to borrow a boat tomorrow and retrieve it from the lilly pads......and fish my lake properly. I checked all of my eyelets for burrs...found nothing.....don't know why the line broke during a cast. Is this a normal occurrence with Baitcasters? Anyways...I did catch a few tonight including a beautiful 3.5 lb tonight....The wind was blowing pretty good and took my line out quite far and it hit almost immediately after the Frog Hit the water.....I counted to 2 then set the hook (Different feeling with the Baitcast Set Up vs. Spinning Gear).....I understand now that the Baitcaster works more like a winch. It was nice being able to direct the fish to where I wanted it as opposed to getting it in quick with the spinning gear before it heads for the lilly pads and/or fallen trees. I am still a hell of a lot more accurate casting my Spinning Gear...but do like the strength of the Baitcaster and the confidence that when large fish does get on I am not so concerned with it heading into the crap. Again thanks for all the advice...This site is great

Help with fishing Frogs/Toads
Reminds me of a quote from a lure company.....When the guy was asked if Fish really like that lure, He stated.....We don't sell these to fish. Don't know who or when this was said...just stuck in my head.....always think of it when the Baitmonkey makes an appearance.

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
Awesome replies as usual.....I think from reading everything, I will continue to use my Spinning set up for my light plastics.....I will also look into getting a different rod for one of the baitcasters. I think the Medium/Heavy Rod may be the issue with the plastics. I am heading out in about an hour....will post an update on how everything went. To answer one of the questions....I am using 14 lb. Fireline

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
I got both reels and they are in New condition...for $60 including shipping.....The Callisto is fine I have been using both and albeit the Citica is by far a nicer reel...The Callisto is more than fine. I would love to have an extra $400 to go out and get 2 new Citicas and 2 nice rods to match up with them. I knew when asking the question that I would get comments.....Anyways I am able to cast overhead, forehand and backhand....would either way be best for plastics? As you can probably tell I am very new to fishing and am trying to learn all I can. I have never even seen someone use a baitcaster before so I am attempting to absorb as much as I can.

Hunting Radios
LOL....It is a hell of a lot of sluggin' and there are no younger members joining...It was fine when I was 20....now I am 36. The Radio/GPS is great for me....especially if someone sees fresh signs and they have a GPS...they radio me the co-ordinates and I can start putting together a plan and tell people to move to different spots if we have a gap somewhere. The radio/GPS is invaluable for hunting and being new to fishing I am sure I will get a lot of use out of it when I get a boat.
