cabelas tourney trail combo
The combo does come with the high speed reel. I bought mine with a 7 ft. heavy power fast action rod. Also, got a 10.00 gift card for being one of the first 100 in the store that day. 69.00 for this combo seems to be a pretty good deal.

cabelas tourney trail combo
I just purchased a cabelas tourney trail 7 ft. heavy power, fast action rod they had teamed with their tournament zx hs reel for 79.00. I also received a 10.00gift certificate for being one of first one hundred people in the store. This is my first heavy power rod. Does anyone have experience with either this rod or reel?? This will be my jigs, t-rigs, c-rigs rod.

shimano questions?
Thanks for your input, reelmechanic. I believe my wife purchased the citica/extreme combo from basspro shops. I am not sure what reel she ordered but will be happy to add another rod & reel to my arsenal.

shimano questions?
Thanks Reelmechanic. Being somewhat of a newbie, is the high efficiency gearing something that I really need???? I fish mostly on weekends in public lakes here in Ohio. I have caught a couple nice fish, guessing they weighed about 3-4 lbs, but no real monsters. Thanks for your input.

Which BPS Citica Combo?
Muzzy, is something really special going to happen on the last day??? April 30th of 2008 does not ring a bell for me. I am sure I am missing something. Can you clue me in please??? Thanks. I am thinking of getting the same combo for X-mas.

shimano questions?
Thanks dsaavedra. That helps alot. I think I will start with the 200D if santa agrees. Do you know if both the 100 series and the 200 series have the H.E.G. (high efficiency gearing)??? I would probably do better with the 100, but on shimano website, it shows the 100 not having this. Thanks for the help you have already given.

shimano questions?
I need help figuring what shimano reel I need. I am a little embarassed to admit that I can not figure out what the letters in their reel identification codes mean. I think the 100 series is smaller and holds less line than the 200 series??? is this correct? Then, for the citica, they have a CI100DSV, CI200D, CI200DSV, CI200DPV...which has a different gear ratio. what does the DSV, D, DPV etc mean??? I am trying to tell Santa what I want, but I need to know what these letters and numbers designate. Thanks for your help.

Cabelas Prodigy
I have a cabelas prodigy baitcaster. I have little experience, only fishing for the last year. I can tell you it is very smooth, almost as smooth as the revo sc i have. At 64.00 on sale right now, I don't know how could go wrong with it. I can not comment on the life of the reel, or how it will hold up, but so far so good.

Jitterbug size and color
Hey LBH, i just showed my 7 year old daughter (my fishing buddy) the pictures of the fish you caught on the jitterbug. She asked who that guy in the pictures was, and I said he was a fisherman who also helped with this site, and she then replied "Wow, he must be famous". There you have it, you are now famous.

Bass Pro vs. Cabelas
Who makes or carries the better fishing poles?? I have a cabelas tourney trail rod that I like, and it is teamed with a revo sc baitcaster. I also have a cabelas gold label rod that is teamed with a cabelas prodigy baitcaster that i also like very much. I am a working man with two children. Gloomis poles are out of my stratosphere, let alone my budget. However, bass pro has the extreme poles reduced from 99.00 to 64.00. anyone use this rod?? I am still getting my feet wet only having fished since this past june. Bass pro has a wide range of their brand rods, while cabelas has gold label at 49.00, tourney trail at 59.00, fish eagle at 79.00, then xml and xmlti at 139.00 amd 179.00. bass pro also has more sales on thier rods it seems. I am going to get another rod, maybe rod and reel for my upcoming birthday. not sure which direction to go. anyone use rods from both places that can provide some first hand comparisons??? I will have maybe 150.00 bucks to spend. thanks for all your input.

one vs. two
Sorry if this has been asked. I did not see it anywhere. What makes a rod more sensitive than another rod??? is it cost only? i see IM6, IM7, IM8, 30 million modulus, 45 million modulus, etc, etc, etc. How can you tell? I like fishing spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwaters, jigs, t-rigged worms & craws, and almost anything else that i can get my hands on(plastics, cranks, swimming jigs). What makes a rod sensitive? is it the IM6 blank, the million modulus that it has, or something else??? Also, is a one piece rod more sensitive than a two piece rod? Thanks for your help.

revo s still available
or is it the revo sc??? anyway, it is no longer available on the internet but still for sale in stores. Also, Today, they gave me a voucher for 30.00 off if I spent 100.00. Well, the reel was 80.00, so it wasn't hard to pick up another 20.00.

revo s still available
I just picked up a Revo S at Cabelas. They still have them in-store for 79.99. Man, is it ever smooth. I may never catch a fish with it, but I will look good trying! I need to save for a new rod, but that is another conversation. Just wanted to let all know they still have this deal in their stores.

Tackle boxes
What kind of tackle boxes do you guys prefer and why??? I am looking to upgrade and wonder how you guys tote your gear. I wonder what benefits the hard plastic boxes have vs. the soft sided carrying cases. How did you guys decide what worked best for you??? As always, I appreciate everyone giving their input.

clear, stained, muddy??? how to tell
I fish in Ohio at three main lakes, Tappan Lake, Clendening Lake, and Salt Fork State Park Lake. The closest and the one I fish the most is Tappan Lake. How can one tell if the water is stained, muddy, or clear??? I have been reading and still do not know how to tell the difference. Any help would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

can someone help me understand drag?
I know that each reel has a drag setting. I know how to set it on my reels. I am not sure the purpose of having the drag? if a fish is hooked and pulling line from your reel, does this damage the reel? can you still crank the reel if the fish is pulling line??? how do measure how much drag you have??? how do you know how much drag you need???? I use a baitcaster with 10 and 12 lb. mono line. Thanks for the help guys.

abu garcia cadinal 503
I am thinking of adding a spinning rod and reel to my collection. So far, I have come up with the following four reels that will fit my budget. Abu garcia cardinal 503, diawa exceler, cabelas tournament zx, and shimano sahara. After playing with them at cabelas on a recent trip, the one that felt better to me is the abu garcia. However, I know nothing about any of these reels other than the stats that i can read on the box....how many bearings, gear ratio, weight, etc. What I would like to know from the group is which one is guaranteed to catch fish? ;D OK. If you can't give me that , can you at least help with your experiences with any of the above reels? I have about 100.00 for the set so I am looking for a rod at about 50.00 well. Any insight would be appreciated.
