  1. Thanks Bob. I did not see the post yesterday, and looked today. Do you use any soft plastic trailers like a 4 inch grub or anything on your spinnerbaits??? if so, how do you then attach the trailer hook??? Thanks for your response.
  2. Can someone describe or better yet provide a diagram of how to attach a trailer hook to a spinner bait? Also, what type of hook do you use and how do you attach it to the spinner?? how does this hook fit into relation to the "add-on" plastics (grubs, etc) that some folks use on spinnerbaits. Thanks for your help
  3. ok. thanks. do you like them more than the Fenwick eagle gt rods???
  4. I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but I am having trouble "hooking" my soft plastic baits. I have been recommended by a successful tournament fisherman to use a bait called chompers hula grub in green pumpkin at my local lake here in Ohio. He has been offering help since I started fishing( i work with his wife...she asks him a question for me and relays his advice back). Anyway, he hooked me up with one of these chompers grubs, and for the life of me, I can not seem to get this thing, or any other soft plastic, hooked up so the hook comes out the front of the bait and the bait is straight and natual looking. When I look at the bait, I think to myself, geeessshhh, this shouldn't be this hard, apparently you have to be smarter than the worm, grub, fluke, lizard, & hook and it looks like I am not. Can anyone give me some help... hopefully with pictures or drawings??? Also, what kind of hooks (brand, type, and size) are you guys using? thanks for the help.
  5. muddy man, what is the Eagle II? is that the cabelas brand rod?? have you tried them before?? thanks for your input.
  6. I agree with you pfluemis. Having worked retail for many years :'(, customers expect and demand only the highest levels of service. And they should. In comparison, I like Cabelas...alot. I have never ordered from them that my product wasn't to my door in 3 days, maybe 4 one time. This is after they confirm my order and tell me that I will recieve in 5-7 business days. I have ordered from bass pro twice in the last couple months, once it was about 7 days and the other time it was thirteen. If you compare, it is easy to see why Cabelas gets alot of my business. Being busy is not an excuse, Hire more, upgrade technology, or simply make sure your employees are as efficient as possible. I can not say I am unhappy with Bass Pro, simply that I would look at Cabelas first. It also helps that the nearest Cabelas is only an hour away and the nearest bass pro is 5 hours away.
  7. thanks Muddyman, that is the type of information that I need. I have only been fishing for a few months and there are so many different options out there. I am partial to cabelas because of there liberal return policy....if you are unhappy, they will make it right, but I also want to get the best bang for my buck.
  8. anyone else use cabelas fishing rods or reels?? i am looking at the gold label rods, but also interested in the tourney trail rods. Just wondering what the difference is between the tourney trail at 59.00 dollars, the fish eagle II at 79.00, and then the large jump to the XML at 139.00? any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
  9. anyone else have any experience with the cabelas rods or reels. They have their tournament zx baitcaster on sale for 39.00 and the high speed zx for 59.00. They also have their gold label rods for 19.00 on sale from 49.00. finally, anyone have experience with tourney trail rods, fish eagle II rods??? Most everthing else is out of my range budget wise, at least for the next year or two. Thanks for all the help so far.
  10. I used a heavier sinker on my Texas-rigged worm today and , while I still did not catch anything, I THINK it helped me feel the rocks and such on the bottom. I did set the hook several times but each time I did, I did not have a fish on and I believe this helped me in feeling the difference. It sure would help if Mr. Largemouth Bass would bite on that worm to really help differientiate the feeling between a rock and a fish! Thanks to everyone who gave advice.
  11. anyone else use their rods or reels??? I am an hour from cabelas and love going there. Specifically, does anyone have any experience with their gold label rods? they are normally 49.00 on sale for 19.00? also, their tournament zx reels are 39.00 and 59.00 down from 69.00 and 89.00??? any information on any of these items would be appreciated.
  12. This may sound like a stupid question, but how can you tell the difference between a fish biting and catching your texas-rigged worm or hula grub on a rock on the bottom??? I have not caught a fish yet using the texas rig here in Ohio. I was wondering if maybe I was getting bites but didn't know the difference ???? Any advice would be appreciated. This is a great place to learn. Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge.
  13. To further gather information, what is the difference between say their tourney trail rods at 59.00. fish eagle II at 79.00, and then the XML line at 139.00 besides about 80.00. I do not mind spending money on quality, but as a beginning fisherman, what kind of advantage does a 140.00 rod give me that the 59. 00 or 79.00 rod does not???? I have read road warriors post about rods but do not see enough information on cabelas website that would help me anwer this question. Furthermore, does anyone know who makes cabelas spinning reels??? Does Diawa make all thier baitcasting reels?? Thanks so much for all your help. This is a great place to learn.
  14. I have not seen much regarding the rods and reels sold by cabelas. I would assume most of their equipment is made by another manufacturer such as diawa making the cabelas brand reels. Do you guys know who makes their rods. They have several different lines of rods...anyone have any experience with them. thanks
  15. I will have some new things to try this weekend. Thanks so much to everyone for adding your input. I find the anticipation of the bite almost as rewarding as the bite itself. Almost being the key. Thanks again for all the help.
  16. Thanks everybody for making me feel so welcome.
  17. I do not own a boat and , at least so far, do all my fishing from the bank. How long do you guys fish before you move to another area(provided that you are not getting any bites or catching any fish of course). Any tips or pointers would be appreciated. thanks
  18. I just started fishing about two months ago with my 6-year old daughter. She wanted to go. Funny thing happened. I really am hooked now and , unfortunately, she gets real bored after about 30 minutes. I never dreamed I would enjoy fishing. Anyway, I still take her when she wants to go and we have fun. I just wanted to say thanks to all who post on here, I found this site and have learned so much in the last couple months. Thanks to all the experienced folks who take the time to share their knowledge.
