  1. I have used Cabelas no-vis, and bass pro xps and have found them both to be very satisfactory.
  2. Anybody have experience with Cabelas or Bass Pro store brand plastics? Does anyone know who makes them for each company? Thanks.
  3. I was at the Cabelas in Wheeling thursday evening. They are still setting up their fishing department for the spring sales but they did have a full selection of most everything, including their newly redesigned Tourney trail rods and their new prodigy rods. They have a full selection of lures, cranks, spinners, rapala has one half of one aisle and part of another, hooks and everything else. They are still in the process of re-designing the layout but was pretty well stocked with merchandise.
  4. I had the most success with a super spot, chrome with black back. I fished it alot and it looks pretty gnarly, but it was the only lipless crank I had alot of catches with. I also caught a few nice fish on the strike king red eye shad in ........no, not sexy shad, but chrome with black back. By the way, I bought the super spot for a buck. ;D
  5. Muddy, the fish eagle II rods are on sale buy one, get one half price until march 2. By the way, I did not know you are famous, other than on this website. Your review of the fish eagle rods is in the cabelas master fishing catalog. You da man.
  6. I have a few bombers. I have had the best results with the fat free guppy in citruse color.
  7. Mine would have to be spinnerbait fishing. I learned alot from Kvd video and had pretty good success last summer. I reel, jerk, let it flutter, pull with the rod, reel, and try to be somewhat erratic. I had some very hard strikes doing this last year, and almost all came during flutter or as I pulled rod to get blades spinning again.
  8. What hooks do you guys use when fishing a drop-shot? Brand and size please. Thanks once again for everyones help and input.
  9. What different kind of jig trailers do you use? anyone ever use a curly tailed worm as a jig trailer? Just wondering what all you guys have had success with? Thanks for your help.
  10. How do you guys fish these? I have some berkley powerbait 7 inch worms and have not fished them. Do you T-rig and drag on the bottom? Or do you swim them back to you? Thanks
  11. I don't buy too much of what is promoted. I use cabelas brand rods and reels because I like them, I have caught fish with them, and cabelas backs them 110%. It also doesn't hurt that they have some great sales. As far as baits go, I am fairly new to the sport and still like trying new baits/brands. I had most success this past summer with Zoom brush hogs...so I have purchased several packs of them since the past summer. I tend to buy more of what I had good luck catching fish with. I have since found that I have purchased some flukes, finesse worms, trick worms, and baby brush hogs...all in the zoom line.
  12. Ok. thanks for all the replies. I took a good look and just used edge of an old pocketknife to get hook started out, and just worked it out from there. I have 5 different lures with the sureset hooks to changeout. I will never buy another with them, those hooks hang up when no other cranks do. fished with same rod, line, and in same spot the sure set hook will hang up when lures without them don't.
  13. What do you have to do and what equipment is needed to change out treble hooks on , say , a rapala dt3 with those blasted "sure set" hooks on them? Can someone kind of give me the step by step process? Thanks. I am sure this has probably been covered, but I did a search and come up with nothing. And do I need to change out the split rings when I change out the hooks? Thanks for the help.
  14. Thanks David. Nice to see you are still around.
  15. I like the looks of the new cabelas prodigy fishing rods. I have not handled one yet. However, after looking at them their website, I see where they have the pacific bay hialoy line guides on them. anyone have any experience with these??? Are they as good as the fuji aluminum oxide guides used on most other rods??? thanks for any input.
  16. Rob, do you suggest we spray KVD line & lure on our reels and let it dry? or spray on and then wipe off??
  17. I agree that the KVD works great. I just wonder because they are both being sold on the same website, and they make the same claims. Longer casts, less birdnests, etc, etc. Almost like maybe they are the same product packaged in two different containers???
  18. Anyone know what the difference is? I was just going to place an order and bam, there is a new product called vicious line conditioner. Is it better???
  19. Dare I ask??? Where on ebay are you finding these gems???? If you don't want to post your secret shopping spots, maybe you could pm me. thanks
  20. Thanks for all the input. I agree with everything being said. I especially apprciate your comments fourbizz. Makes alot of sense. All I really need, at least for now, is something that does not leak, with a motor that runs. If the price is right, I can always add fish finder, trolling motor, etc later.
  21. Thanks Cart7t, I have already been there. I was asking more in lines of which brands you guys have had luck with. For instance, I fish small lakes in Ohio and most likely going to have to go aluminum based on my budget. Sea nymph has been recommended as alumacraft. I would rather buy fiberglass but it is probably unlikely to be in my price range. I am hoping to get a "package" boat with 9.9 motor, trolling motor, fish finder. Thanks for your input.
  22. I am hopefully going to be able to get a small fishing boat this spring. I am going to have a budget of 1500 or so. I know nothing about boats or motors or trolling motors. What brand or brands should I be looking for? aluminum or fiberglass? any brands I should stay away from? I am going to be posting questions regarding this purchase as I value and trust the opinions of all the experienced folks here. Thanks for your help.
  23. Do any of you folks use the perfect skirts made by strike king?? Or do you tie your own? I just bought some on closeout at Wal-mart and they seem really nice. I haven't had them in the water yet, but they really dressed up a couple old spinnerbaits. One tip though, do not dip them in JJ's Magic and leave on your bench to dry. Man, is that stuff powerful. Unfortunately, so is my wife. Boy, is it ever cold in the doghouse this time of year in Ohio. ;D
  24. I don't know about all the inner workings of tax breaks and all that. I had never been in Wheeling in my life (45 youthful years) until Cabelas opened. When it did, there was a big hill top with a Cabelas store. Now there is a Wal-mart, McDonalds, Wendys, Applebees, Kohls, and several other stores. In other words, too many to remember or list. I don't know about any other stores closing in the area, but I know several thousand people are there alot and they probably never went to Wheeling before. I have no idea how much money Cabelas has infused into the local economy, but I am sure it is substantial. As for their customer service, it is second to none. I took my daughter to the wheeling store not long after it opened. She was three. I had her sitting on the railing looking at the fish they have swimming in the open pond area. One of their clerks, Mark, noticed and went and got some food so my little girl could feed the fish. She Loved it!!! Now, a few years later he still recognizes me when I go in. I spoke to him at length one day this past summer and asked him if he knew why we kept coming back there and how he always seemed to remember me. He said "I remember you and your daughter sitting on the rail and watching the fish, and I remember getting her some food to feed the fish. And I remember her being so happy and laughing cause the fish were just going nuts over the food". I am one of but several thousand persons passing thru that store each day/year. The fact that he remembered how happy my child was is irreplaceable. Nobody can top that, ever. The rest is just icing on the cake.
  25. I don't know about all the hype and that. I just know that I caught several fish last year on a series 3 and 4 and/or the redeye lipless crank in sexy shad when other colors did not work. I look at the water and the sky ( learned from bass pros and kvd video) and try the appropriate colors/baits. I fish with a spinnerbait first because it is my favorite. I will also have some type of soft plastic tied on, usually a brush hog or flappin hog, and then a crank bait. I have accumulated over about 125 cranks in different brands/colors/depths. I like to try several types and time after time, after not getting hit on the spinnerbait, jig/plastic, or another type/color, I would get hit on the sexy shad crank/redeye shad. I believe it works, it is not magic and fish don't just jump on and say catch me, but the results, at least in my opinion, is that it is a versatile color and a good bait. I have caught several fish on the zoom brushhog pumpkin/green flake color as well, and while I think it is an eye catching color, the fish don't always agree. I say, it's your money and your fishing time, if you like it and it works for you, throw it. Good luck to all you guys.
