  1. I just got back from cabelas where I redeemed some Christmas gift cards for a shimano symetre. When i got it home ( an hour and 15 minutes away), I pulled it out of the package...and it makes a grinding sound when you crank the handle. :'(. Oh the letdown. I know Cabelas will make it right, but that is a long drive. Plus, I wanted to take it for a test spin. thanks for listening.
  2. Thanks for the help. I try to get the best "value" for my money, being married with two kids...and a new puppy. Many times, what looks like a good deal really can be bettered by spending another 20.00 or so it appears as I shop around.
  3. I received a fishing rod from bass pro this Christmas. It came in a heavy cardboard tube and was in perfect shape.
  4. Looking for a brief explanation about the types of guides on fishing rods? is there a good, better, best, and best ever??? do more guides make a more expensive rod, if so, why? I know there is an alconite?, hardloy, but i have no idea what that means. I did try to look them up at fuji website, but could find no explanation. Thanks in advance.
  5. anyone else fish either rods or reels?
  6. what is the bp fishing classic? the website listed says info coming soon?
  7. anyone else have an opinion on either combo, or each rod or reel? Thanks
  8. thanks goldenone7710. I appreciate the input. I am looking at a combo which includes the extreme. Any others?
  9. Thanks for the input Muddyman and Big T. If I had the money I would get both. Decisions, Decisions.
  10. I need some help. I have about 100.00 to spend on a new spinning combo. I have narrowed it down (I think) the the bps extreme rod with a pflueger president reel. Or, a cabelas fish eagle II rod with the cabelas tournament zx spinning reel (made by diawa). The bps is 99.00 and the cabelas is 109.00, but I have 20.00 off a 100.00 purchase at cabelas. I have not experience with the fish eagle II rods. I received a bps extreme rod/ shimano citica reel combo for Christmas, but I have not fished with it yet. Anyone have any experience with either. I tend to lean toward Cabelas because they are only an hour away and have a outstanding customer service, but I really like the BPS extreme rod. I like tournament zx reel because it is all metal, while the president is graphite framed. Help.
  11. flechero, that's great news. That is Customer Service. I know where I would be spending all my fishing dollars.
  12. So, Grimlin, if I am hearing you right, I can really fish with 10 lb. line on an 8 lb reel, but I would have to make do with less line? What about casting, would it be the same? would the reel be damaged in any way??? Thanks for your help.
  13. For some manufacturers, they list the line the reel will hold such as 140/4, 120/6, & 100/8. Others list only one number such as 170/8. My question is this, If you have say a shimano symmetre 2500, can or should you not fish it with line heavier than 8 lb test??? Thanks.
  14. Good luck with your situation. I know that I have always had good luck with Cabelas. Not really bought much from bass pro. It really is difficult I am sure to have a new toy and not be able to mess with it. I hope it all works out well for you. Merry Christmas.
  15. Thanks for all the input. Tin2win, do you use regular superglue? if so, how do you remove the chunk when it is torn up or you want to try something different? I know there are alot of different types of trailers out there, what are you guys most successful with?
  16. OK. I understand where you are coming from. Thanks.
  17. I just re-read your post, and even if folks are asking about a certain brand, I still would not be offended in any way if someone suggested a different brand. The folks who are asking still haven't made up their mind and possibly a different suggestion would lead them down a road they had not known existed.
  18. Good Morning Roadwarrior. I for one appreciate hearing from all members of each posse. I have never fished with a shimano, but value input from all those who have more experience than I. Some members maybe need some reassurance when asking about a certain brand they are maybe going to purchase. Whether this be rods or reels, I still would like all members of all posse's? to chime in when I ask a question. I most likely speak for most others here, especially new fishermen who are trying to get the best bang for their buck. For what it is worth, I am expecting my first shimano citica/extreme bps combo for Christmas. I might be joining your posse then. lol. For now, I am still a member of the newbie, cash challenged posse trying to get the best bang for my fishing dollar.
  19. I know that reels need to be cleaned and lubricated, drag turned down, etc. What care do your rods need in the offseason? Thanks for all the sharing of information. Merry Christmas to all.
  20. I am gonna try fishing with a jig this spring. I recently purchased some zoom chunks. How do you hook them? do you feed them onto the jig like you would a grub? or do you just run the hook thru the middle of the chunk? Thanks for all your help.
  21. Thanks Muddy. I am new to fishing and, with two kids , just trying to stretch my fishing dollars as far as I can. I saw that combo on sale for 79.00 and thought that, even if the reel and rod lasted only a few years, that is a good value.
  22. What is the difference between the stradic and the aero stradic??? Same with the symmetre? Thanks
  23. anyone else fish with this rod or reel?? I was wondering how well the reel would hold up? Thanks to all.
  24. I have a cabelas prodigy baitcaster and I like it very much. I am new to fishing and baitcasting. I also have a revo sc and the revo reels seem to be very highly thought of on these forums. I think the revo is smoother than the prodigy, but it is not a glaring difference in my opinion. I bought the revo sc when cabelas had them for 79.00. but from what i have seen, the prodigy for 65.00 bucks has lots and lots of value. I have only been fishing for about 9 months or so, so feel free to factor that into your decision. One other thing to consider, if you become unhappy with anything you purchase from cabelas, they will exchange or refund no questions asked.
