  1. IMO, confidence comes from understading how the lure works and what situations it works best in. However you still need experience and knowledge to figure out where the fish are positioned, best lure and pattern choices and a overall knowledge of bass themselves. I could have all the confidence in the world in one certain lure, but if I don't put it in the water near where the fish are, I'm not going to catch anything. Confidence is a great thing to have in fishing, but as you gain confidence in that lure because it consistently catches fish, try to figure out why those fish are there and why that lure catches them. Then you will gain knowledge, which in turn lets you make better decisions at other times and also gives you other choices in lures to use. One thing I try to do every day I fish is learn something different. If not it just becames a boring sport, and you find yourself in a rut. Good luck!!!!
  2. Got one and love it for those cold runs or when its raining. I've heard of some people having trouble with them fogging up, but I've never had any.
  3. Once, while fishing this past winter, I broke ice at the boat ramp putting the boat in the water. The truck said 22 degrees, water temperature was 32-33 degrees and still had quite a bit of frozen water in the back of some pockets. Fished for about 6 hours and caught a couple fish. As long as the lakes not frozen over I will fish. I work outside in alot worse weather than that, so its no big deal.
  4. Are you talking about the skeg at the bottom of the engine or the anode (silver piece) above the prop??
  5. It should run whenever the switch is turned on. Maybe a bad connection, blown fuse, or pump may be bad. Good luck!
  6. On some engines you can rev it while in neutral, the Yamaha 225 HPDI VMAX on my '07 Skeeter ZX225 will not really "rev" up. Once you start trying to rev it up it cuts out cylinders to keep the RPM's down to keep someone from trying to blow the engine up. Also while idling in neutral it only runs on 4 of 6 cylinders.

  9. it doesn't matter how you hook to the fish, it will weigh the same. You may have just discovered the worse thing for a die hard fisherman.........that the fish you are catching aren't as big as you thought they were ;D
  10. 3 total while fishing, 0 not fishing 2 of the 3 were Quantum KVD signature series rods...one on a hookset and the other fighting a fish The other was a BPS crankin stick while swinging a fish in the boat.
  11. The dealers in this area state that there is nothing wrong with the bearing buddies, it's the owner. They pump too much grease in them, causing rear seal failure. We have two in the shop now for repair with the same problem. More is not better in this case. I will agree with you on that. Seems some people think you need to add grease before every trip. I'm luck if I pump grease into mine once every 3-4 months and then its only a pump or two at the most. A little preventitive maintenance and common sense goes along way!!
  12. Yes, the chrome is the bearing buddy, it drives up into the hub on the axle. You could probably take a pair of channel locks but it will mess up the outside of the bearing buddy. Just use a hammer and hit it on each side back and forth, you won't have to hit it very hard, plus you can put it in your truck/boat to have as a spare if you ever lose one or something. There is several different sizes, best to take the old one with you to get it matched up.
  13. I'd have to respectfully disagree with the above statement. I've been pulling boat trailers for the last 10 years with bearing buddies and I've never lost a bearing.
  14. Don't worry about it. As long as you're not slinging grease out around the front of the wheel, which would mean the seals in the front of the bearing buddy are probably shot, I wouldn't bother. However if you want to change it, its simple. Take a hammer and hit the old bearing buddy on each side back and forth until it comes out. Then take the new bearing buddy and (I always use a little bearing sealant by Locktite) and line it up. Gently tap it to get it started and then lay a piece of 2x4 or something over the front of the bearing buddy and hit it really hard. The wood keeps from messing the bearing buddy up and also distributes the force equally to drive the bearing buddy in straight.
  15. They're threaded. but they make both standard and metric types. Best to take it out and go to the auto parts store or somewhere and match it up. Have you tried taking a really small screwdriver and pressing in on the check ball in the center of the zerk? Sometimes those balls will corrode to the housing and not push back to let new grease in.
  16. Not really uncommon for the grease zerks to go bad and not let grease in. Just replace it with another one.
  17. They will interfere with each other. I had a 520c at the bow and a 797c2SI at the console on my boat for a while. I couldn't even read the screen on the 520 when I had the 797 on. One transducer was on the trolling motor and the other on the jackplate over 20ft. apart. I could turn the 797 off and the 520 would work but not together.
  18. I've never tried it, but read about it in a past issue of Bassmasters. Give it a try and see if it works. As far as a fish bleeding on me, I always try to unhook it quickly and get it back in the water. I've heard that a fish's blood will clot very quickly in water. Just part of the game....
  19. Exactly. Like everyone is saying it just takes time to figure it out. My units still have alot of features I don't fully understand but by being able to understand the basics it puts you that much further ahead in the game of fishing
  20. You're starting to figure it out, but remember this. If you drive over the hump, point, etc and say it goes from 20ft. to 15ft. on the graph with a nice 90 degree drop. When you drop anchor over that drop your fish finder is still not going to show the exact picture of the drop that you seen in the first place. All it will show is the actual depth your setting over and because your anchored it will not change so the bottom on your fishfinder will be a flat line. Hope you can understand that. I'm not the greatest at explaining somethings online that are very easy to explain in person

  22. Fishing out of a '07 Skeeter ZX225 with Yamaha 225 HPDI right now. Before it I had a '02 Skeeter SX190 with Yamaha 150 carb'd and before that a '98 Tracker PT165 with Mercury 25. Unless something major goes wrong in the Skeeter manufacutring, I'll probably buy another Skeeter when I decide to get another new boat. Love the fishability, ride, comfort, and the Yamaha power
  23. I've got a 797SI at the console and a 787 at the bow. Both are connected with the Humminbird Interlink to share routes, GPS points, etc. Love both the units, and haven't had any problems so far.
  24. The only GULP products I've used is the 3" minnow. I use it quite often on a dropshot rig and it does produce. I won't say its better than livebait as far as fish catching potential, but it is alot easier to store and does catch fish.
