  1. I know everyone is going crazy over these rods but I have nothing but nightmares with them. Bought a 6'9" para and hated the feel and the hook set. Sent it back and got a 7'2" para and hated it even more. Just got the Boyd edition and the reel seat broke. Sent it back and the new reel seat broke again. I have a buddy who has one and hasn't had issue but looses more fish with missed hook sets then I can count on my fingers and toes. Last time I was this unhappy with a rod it said "All Star"on the side of it. Not trying to bash just giving my experience and my opinion. I'm sure plenty of people are loving them but I read a post on this website once saying they blow every GLX on the market out of the water. I' not sure what that person is smoking but I love to either buy some or buy his GLXs off of him.
  2. X2 on that. Go deeper and find structure. get an overhead map if you can I would bet my house they are easy to find for Lake Norman.
  3. I will third the YUM chunks. According to a few sources though they are not pouring them right which is why everyone including TW seems to have a very low supply. If you see them and like them....buy them.
  4. I wacky a lot. I use Gamkatsu extra wide gap weedless 2/0 hooks with a 4 or 5 inch Senko with an o-ring rigged dead center then just hook the worm barely through the o-ring. In extra clear water I will stretch the worm first to create more action. It is SUPER weedless but the hook is on the small size but I have never had issues hooking into big fish or break offs. Most of my hits come on the fall and, for me, it is a super effective but slow method. You can speed up the presentation and mimic a jerk bait style (kinda) and still get reaction hits. However bouncing or dragging the bottom had been most effective for me.
  5. Shakey Head Jig Senko Tube Drop Shot Why and what do you use and does the situation dictate? Example - I use Jigs for deeper fishing but in shallow water I love Senkos. Shakey Heads in rocks. Never use tubes. I'm curious to see what people say other then confidence.
  6. Looking to buy possibly a Legend. Everything I've heard has been possitive. "Ride of a Champion, Speed of a Skeeter". I know the designer and owner is a former Champion Designer so I can see the similarities there but it's such a new company. So, any feedback....possitive or not? Doy
  7. http://www.mdbass.com/clubs.htm Here you go
  8. I've never had much luck following birds unless, as previously stated, I see 4 or more herrings in one cove all in hunting mode. However, on my local lake there is a little black duck with a white (not sure what species) but they always hover in the water over hydrilla. Whatever they eat (they are vegatarians) they like the hydrilla. Maybe they are eating the hydrilla itself. Either way if you are looking for grass they seem to find it pretty well. Doesn't always equate to fish but grass is there.
  9. My greatest strength is that I can make a hell of a lunch and snacks to bring out on the boat. Perfect amount of peanut butter and jelly always on a freshly purchased loaf of italian (wihtout seeds) bread. Not a bad strength to have if any of you don't own a boat....work on it.
  10. Day on the lake...ESPN Saturday and Sunday mornings. There is only like 5 or 6 episodes but they are good and informative. Bass Pros is still the best though. Get the season 1 DVD and don't stop watching it.
  11. Just bought a new Nissan Titan and hopefully soon will be towing my boat. How many use 4 wheel drive on the ramp and is it needed on a small light boat and what feels like such a big engine? Also, side note, but has anyone had any experience installing Nerf Bars or round step bars on a truck? Thanks
  12. An ad in my bassin mag says if you buy a helium II you get a Masnesium for free. You apparently have to go to kistler's website to get the promo code and order directly too. Just a thought if you are serious about getting one.
  13. What a hog. I'm just glad it isn't out of a pond. The last MD record accordingto the DNRfishing in MD book you get with your state license was out of a farm pond. Something about that just screams "miracle grow". Nice catch.
  14. "d**n...that actually worked" Or KaaaaPOW!
  15. I have the GLX version of that exact rod. LOVE it!
  16. Anyone ever purchased any reels from overstock.com? They have Daiwa Advantage for $85. I'm always scared of internet deals and ebay. http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Team-Daiwa-Advantage-Baitcast-Fishing-Reel/2620993/product.html
  17. Everyone on the show seemed cool except for LeFebre. He bit Gagliardi's line off when he was trying to land afish which resulting in him falling in the waterto try to reach the fish. I've seen him at a few fishing expos and he's seemed pretty layed back but that taking a joke a bit too far. Besides....Zell Rowland is and always will be the man.
  18. I used Transition Gold and Red in 8 and 10lb exclusively until I tried the professional grade. Not a huge fan of the green as I think it's hard to see the line on sunny days especially when you are forced with a green woods as a back drop. Seems to blend too much. The clear though is unreal. Costly but unreal. If you can't find it the Transition GOLD is a real close second.
  19. 1. Daiwa Steez 2500 with GLoomis GLX 7'1" X Fast Action Medium Power Senko Rod with 8 lb Berkley GOLD Transition Fluorocarbon - Used for Texas Rig Senko and Wacky Worming Senko Fishing....This is like my American Express, I never leave home without it. It actually has dinner with me some nights. 2. Daiwa Steez 2500 with GLoomis GLX 6'8" Extra Fast Action Med-Hvy Power Jig and Worm Rod with 8 lb Berkley Gold Transition Fluorocarbon - Used for Weighted Tubes 3. Quantum Tour 6.3:1 with GLoomis 7' Fast Action Med/Light Action Crank Bait Rod with 10 lb Trilene XL Mono - Used for shallow Crank Baits and Top Waters 4. Same Exact as above but with 10lb Berklet RED Transition - For Deeper Cranks. 5. Quatum Tour 7.1:1 with GLoomis 6'9" Extra Fast Action Light Power Spinner Bait Rod with 10lb Berkley RED Transition - Used for Spinner Baits 6. Quantum Tour 6.3:1 with GLoomis GLX 7' Fast Action Medium Power Mag Bass Rod with 10 lb Berkley RED Transition - Used for Jigs These rigs may not be for everyone but they work for me pretty well. I did just order an E21 Carrott too but haven't gotten it yet. Not sure how much I'm going to like it I'm normally a Loomis kinda guy. Just to show how anal I can be I use the RED and GOLD transition but 8 lb is alwasy GOLD and 10 lb is alwasy RED. If I use a heavier pound test I would know what to do and my head would explode so I only use 8 and 10.
  20. Agreed...I love the Quantum tours and use them almost exclusively as bait casters. Saw that this was coming out and have had Quantum KVD sig reels in the past and have been pretty let down. No where near the price of the Tour or energy but in my experience his older reels also lack in the performance and durability.
  21. Please explain to my wife that I'm not the only one. Went to Cabella's in Hamburg PA and BSP on the way south in Harrisburg. Both had one left of the 7'1" GLX Senko rod....I tried to explain that I couldn't let other people buy them regardless of it being Christmas or not, they had to be mine, and that It saved me from ordering them online but that didn't seem to help my case much either. Women.... She doesn't understand how much sense my choice makes. What would happen if every other one of those rods in the world suddeny caught fire? Then I wouldn't be able to get one.....it could happen.
  22. I personally only use mono on top waters and buzz baits (it floats better). But if you like fluoro rub some old style non scented or colored chapstick (or Carmex) on your fingers and run it down your line. The waxy substance in the chapstick will give it more bouyancy. I do think Mono casts longer though lb for lb.
  23. what happened? Id imagine the reel moved in the seat- mine did it to- all I did was put a 1/2" piece of e-tape on the reel and it is now perfect. Some reels are a bit loose in the seat- I'm a bit loose in the seat some days. I tried the kissler and much prefer loomis. If you are going to drop that much drop a few more and get a GLX. You'll never fish anything but a GLX after that. The hook set power on a loomis is unmatched. St Croix are close though.
  24. I've fished Reservoirs the majority of my fishing life and very few times have fished on the Potomac or Sesquahanna. Every time on the rivers it's been in a Ranger that was previosly owned by a Pro. The boat is amazing but slightly out of price range. I also live very close to a Bass Pro with the Nitro line of boats. Nitro seems to have a model of a boat that I like but I can honestly say I've never seen one on the water. Mostly Triton and Rangers. So the simple question is...Are Nitros nice boats? I'm not looking for the quality of the Ranger I've fished but I'm alos not looking for the price tag.
  25. The boat I fish on now (a Family Members) is actually 60V Ray with ten batteries for the motor and 3 for TM and accessories (Hair Blow dryers, lighted mackup mirrors, etc.). It's an 18 foot alumicraft with factory built decking and it moves pretty well. We run it at 60% most of the time and reach about 6 MPH according to the Lowrance. The total rig including motor is reaching $18K but it's the *** of the reservoirs we hit with pretty much every head turning as we go. We have a 21 foot Ranger for anything allowing gas but the reservoirs in this area won't let you touch them with a gas prop so electric is the only way and for something that big and heavy we would need several high thrust Minn Kotas and wouldn't reach the far points of the lake for hours. With the Ray we can get from one side to the other in 40 mins tops and the gates to the reservoir open at 5 so we can easily get where we need to be before the sun comes up. I'm not sure of the other options but Ray's a great motors....they just cost over $7k...YIPE!
