Mauch Chunk *pics of two mooks*
Went out with a buddy to the chunk at around 11am. The water temp was 65 degrees, clear sunny, and windy. We fished some chunk rock caught a couple dinks. Then we went shallow and caught a few spinnerbait fish and that seemed to be the ticket for the rest of the day. I picked up another buddy at another launch and went fishing for a few hours more. I ran into two mooks in a boat. I was moving up lake and saw an Italian guy with a blue hat slay a bass. Guess who...Muddy! So we trolled over and shot the sh** for a awhile heard a few jokes told a few lies and came in. Muddy is still out there catching all the fish I missed!

Spinning Line Frustration - What line?
There is no reason why you can't use 10lb on a spinning reel. There are a few things that come to mind that would be good in your sitiuation. Before spooling line soak it in hot water. This makes the line limp and takes out any memory of the filler spool. It will then form to the spinning spool. When you cast do you reel to click your bail or do you flip it over? If you reel stop and flip it by hand. Those two things should fix all your problems.

Rod and Reel Warranty Question
When you buy a rod or reel from ebay, craigslist, the flea market, garage sale, etc. How does the warranty work? Don't you need the receipt from when you purchased it or is that only for the 5 year or 10 years warranties?

Revo Winch
Is the 5.4:1 low enough for deep crankbaits? I am looking for a reel with versatility to use for mid depth to deep crankbaits. I was suggested to buy a 4.9:1 gear ration reel for deep cranks. It seems like the winch is the only one I can find for under $270 that is LH.

TOURNAMENT ANGLERS: How do you practice for a tournament?
I have a hard time doing off the water map study. From a map I can't see vegetation, clarity, temperature, or fish activity. I can only pick out obvious things like humps, breaks, or points. I can somewhat relate where the fish will be by season. After that I can't relate where the fish will move depending on the weather trend and such. That is beyond me.

For all who crank lefty
What reel are you looking for that doesnt have a lefty? I have no trouble finding lefty reels anymore - back in the 90's it was tough though I am looking for a cranking reel low gear ratio in LH. I can't find any. (other than the winch)

Catt will you throw a line in during your prefishing days on the water?

TOURNAMENT ANGLERS: How do you practice for a tournament?
I fish non-boater in tourneys, but if I would practice as a boater I have an idea of how I would go about it. For non-boater I like to get a feel for the water and what the dominate techniques may be for the specific time and for the body of water. Sometimes I would throw a word or two in about places that we should check, but I mainly follow along fish and get a sense of whats going on. For boater it really depends on the water size and season. If it is a large body of water 15,000 acres or more I will try to eliminate a lot of the water. An example of this could be focusing in on the warmest water for springtime. I am trying to learn how to eliminate water due to season. If it is a smaller body of water I will spot check a lot more, but for large water I feel like more time prefishing is better then running all over. I tend to slow down more which is probably not the right way to do it. I know most people just use search baits, but I don't have as much confidence in them. I have a lot to learn about prefishing so I am excited to hear some responses. I would like to know how you work different depths in the springtime or how you prepare for changes. I would also like to know what you throw. Do you cut the barbs and tips off of hooks on your trebles so you don't stick fish?

My first bass tournament
Do you know the water temps? Most likely they will be 55-60 range. I would check main and secondary points. Check the flats close to drop steep drop offs. The fish have been acting funky so far. I would also try to find the warmest water the lake has to offer. I would probably be fishing jerkbaits/jigs. Wear some good rain gear and have fun! ;D
