  1. Well that day was not boring to say the least. It sounds like that officer just was upset he was proven wrong then needed to find a reason to fine you. I don't like those guys!
  2. All I do is fish water I have never been on so it is always a new adventure. I think that is the best situation for a new angler is to be thrown to the dogs basically. Be put in a tourney 6 hours away have 1-2 days to prefish and try to find them. 5bl I have heard that spring can be the most unpredictable time of the year to pattern the fish. Do you agree with that statement? Which season do you think is the easiest to pattern?
  3. I am going to lose this battle.... >
  4. When you prefish will you try to find a bite for different parts of the day? For instance if it is mid summer will you try to find an early top water bite, a mid day bite on the points, and a late day bite in the weed beds? Will you look into a variety of areas so if you need to make adjustments tournament day you have a feel for those areas? For instance this past weekend I had a college tournament in Indiana. It was a huge warming trend and the 5 day went as follows 59-63-83-85-89. We prefished on the 85 day and found fish on main lake points and some cuts on the wind blown shoreline. We also had a few bites back in a stained creek where the water temperature was significantly higher. We estimated we could have caught 9-10 lbs in the tourney day. We slowed down fished the main lake points and some cuts thoroughly and had nothing. Not until about 1230 did we go to that shallow creek. In the shallow creek we caught some keepers and missed a good one flipping shallow wood. If we would have went straight to the warm creek we probably would have pulled a good limit for the day. We did find the creek and just didn't go straight to it because of bad judgment. Any thoughts or strategies on prefishing are welcome.
  5. Hunger is not the only reason why fish bite a bait, they ain 't got no hands so every contact is done with the mouth. Alright smarty so answer this question. How many baits will you go through if you know there are fish at the location but will not eat/move the bait/nudge/attack/ETC...?
  6. The two easiest on that list are tubes and poppers. I get a lot of my fish in the summer and late spring on poppers. Just walk the dog with your popper. Leave slack in your line and do quick downward jerks so it goes side to side. Throw them over weed beds and busting shad. Tubes like camman said trigging is easy and you can use that technique flipping heavy stuff as well as around rocks. Just fish the tube like any other trigged worm.
  7. I would like to fish the weekend series this summer and some BFL's and Weekend Series tournaents. BFL Shenandohah Empire Piedmont Weekend Series Northeast http://www.abaproam.com/2009_schedule_by_division.php If you are fishing any of the tourney's and need a guarenteed non boater let me know. Either reply here or PM me.
  8. I feel the same way you guys do. I have been sticking to basic baits lately and changing the angles. I think I am going to find a t-rig I like and stick to that to for awhile along wth my jig. I really like the paca craw. I sort of have the mentality right now to stick to the basics and not getting crazy. This is my second year of fishing serious. I am sure over time I will be devloping different ideas on what works for me.
  9. How many baits will you guys go through if you know your on a spot where the fish are, but they arn't eating?
  10. Tommy your response is appreciated, and also makes me want to start hunting.
  11. Revise: Compensation will apply this will include gas for tow and boat!
  12. If you have a piggy bank and you want to save $100 will you throw away your dollar bills because they aren't 20's?
  13. Okay this is my final plea. I am with the Penn State Bass team and have a tournament this Sunday on Brookville Lake. We have 2 boats to take, but due to regulations which state you take the 3 top boat weights, we need one more boat. IF you can help us out or have any leads PLEASE CALL ME. My phone number is 484-515-3927. We do not need a boat with a 150-250 on it. We need a boat over 17ft. I know it takes a lot to put your boat in a college guys hands, but the team that needs one has a Grad student who owns a 19 ft with a 150 but his towing vehicle is in the shop. We will tip, pay for gas, and treat it like its our baby.
  14. I was catching them on a steep drop from 4ft down to 12 with a lot of wood, but I couldn't find them last trip.
  15. What is the various effect on the crankbait between a 6.4 or if you go down to a 4.7 reel? What are the pro's and con's betwene the two? Why is the 4.7 the cranking standard? I have never used a low gear ratio before so this is new to me.
  16. I wouldn't take someone wearing a Michigan shirt fishing..... Ps. I go to PSU
  17. I have been there 6 trips in the last 3 weeks. Got skunked the first time today. It is slow. I found some pigs the second week. My dad got a 5lb lm and I picked up a 6.5. All the others have been 15-17 inch fish. The temp today was 50 degrees at noon. I caught the fish in 48 degree water. I am just learning it for spring time this year. I can target fish consistently USUALLY in the summer.
  18. Yeh I have been wondering this too.
  19. I have a big 10 college tournament on Brookville Lake in Indiana. We are in need of two boats. If you are a part of any clubs in the area, or would lend a boat please PM me. We have a few guys in the club that have 18-21ft boats with 150-225's on them, but they don't want to haul. : We have borrowed boats in the past from local clubs both in Illinois and Virginia without a problem. Please if you have any info PM me. Thanks!
  20. Scott that info is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Any reccomendations on line, reel, and rod? Also any colors you prefer? If it were me getting colors blind I would stick to the shad colors. Talk about deep... http://www.***.com/descpageMANNCRANK-MDP.html http://www.***.com/descpageHDCNORMAN-DD22S.html
  21. Do any of you catch fish with 14+ crankbaits? If so how? What do you look for structure wise, how do you run the crank, what equipment, and what crankbaits?
  22. Is this for a college paper? If so your college should have database services which you could get GOOD legit information. Sources may include Web of Science, Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts, and Jstor. Also check your library for American Fisheries Society journals.
  23. I am all for basics. What structure in your opinion do they prefer? I fished the structure I catch SM off of in the summer, and I didn't do well (3 trips). I caught fish every trip, but I tried to specifically target SM since they spawn in colder water then LM. I did manage to catch one SM (16in.) on a point that had small rock substrate dropping into deep water. Do they prefer humps, steep rock drops, tapering points? Do they spawn in the same substrate as LM, and use the same staging strategy as LM? Will they be in deeper water or shallower water then LM on the same lake?
  24. I need some tips. The lake I mainly fish has both SM and LM populations. I sort of figured out where the LM are, but I would like to target the SM. What are some common features SM look for in prespawn/spawn. Water temp last weekend was 45. I heard they spawn in 50-55. Any tips regarding spring SM would be great. Thanks.
  25. I am guessing it is fairly muddy? I would probably fish a jig tight to cover. I would also go with lures that displace water/noisy.
