  1. The ragetail shad is one of my favorites. Cavitrons and spooks work well too
  2. Rage shads, the eeliminator, and buzzbaits work great in the rain. I LOVE fishing in the rain
  3. I use insertable weights with Ragetail shads and toads on windy days so I can cast further.
  4. Lobsters and Anacondas have caught the most big fish for me. A 1/2 oz swim jig with a lobster trailer has become one of my favorites. I like to throw the Anaconda on a light weight t-rig.
  5. Big lures for less money. The saltwater section is awesome. Many of these lures are more durable as well. One that I'd recommend is the Bomber Badonk-a-donk. It's a 'walk the dog' style topwater and the action is great. It looks like I could run it over with my truck and it wouldn't hurt it.
  6. I started catching topwater fish at the end of January, and I'll keep doing so until the beginning of December.
  7. Yesterday I caught the same 4lb bass twice. I caught her first at about 8:30am, then again at 11:30am. I didn't realize it until this morning when I reviewed the pictures more closely. She has two distinctive black spots, one behind the gill plate and one at the base of the tail. The 2nd time I caught her it was several hundred yards from the first time. The first time she was in about 2 feet of water and I caught her on a hollow bodied frog, the 2nd time she was in about 15 feet of water and I caught her on a jig with a Lobster trailer. Since she hit a different lure, this doesn't really show whether she 'remembered' me or not. Just that she was still willing to eat after being caught. I didn't think a bass would be eating again so soon after being handled. On my pond, I have noticed that some lures have been 'worn out'. If my buddies see me catchin 'em on a certain lure, they all go get the same lure and throw it all day until eventually you can't get a hit on it anymore. I can't get a bass to hit a buzzbait in this pond anymore, and it was once one of my best producers there.
  8. Today was a blast. I caught a couple dozen fish with a few nice ones. I caught most of my fish with a KVD 1/2 oz swim jig with a watermelon/red Lobster and a Booyah 3/8oz black jig with a black/blue Lobster. The biggest one was 6lbs 3oz, my biggest this year so far.
  9. Had a great day on the water with my son on Tuesday. I can't upload pictures to this forum anymore, so here's the link to my post at ragetail.com. http://ragetalk.com/index.php?topic=2623.0 Tight lines everyone, ETB
  10. I like using the rage lizard on a light weight c-rig. If you're getting short strikes I would add some JJ's or megastrike to seal the deal. The lizard is a great flipping/pitching bait as well. I've caught some nice fish pitching it into laydowns and brush t-rigged with a 3/8oz flippin weight.
  11. For me it depends on the cover. If there's a lot of wood and brush, I throw a crankbait. If it's more open, I throw a jerkbait. I use crankbaits to deflect off of cover, jerkbaits to get reaction strikes without cover. Water temp determines how fast or slow the retrieve is, with either bait. Most of the time, though, I'm more of a 'jigs and plastics' guy.
  12. My favorite combo is a green pumpkin rage craw on the back of a bluegil pattern KVD swimjig. The craw arms are swinging around too much for it to look like a craw, it still imitates a baitfish when you swim it. Try burning it near or on the surface, but HOLD ON.
  13. Green pumpkin and summer craw are my favorites. The baby craws are excellent on a t-rig, but don't limit them to just that. They are my most productive drop shot bait and they make a great little jig trailer too.
  14. My son caught his first bass yesterday. It's the first fish he's ever caught by himself. I'm so proud I just can't express it. He's 3. I didn't catch my first bass until I was 12. It's pretty small, but so is he! ;D
  15. Strike King KVD swim jig w/ rage craw/lobster trailer. Close 2nd would be the ragetail baby thumper. I've had some great days this year going back and forth between those two.
  16. My best producers are the Norman Middle N (pearl w/ purple flake) and Strike King Series 3 & 4 (Sexy Shad)
  17. agreed. No need to remove the split ring. BTW - KVD does the same thing.
  18. I only use braid for jerkbaits now. It seems to allow a much 'wider' and more erratic action. Haven't had any problem with hooks being 'torn out' and I haven't seen the need for any kind of leader.
  19. My local Dick's Sporting Goods had LC pointers and sammy's marked down to $10 on clearance. I picked up a few more pointers.
  20. I picked up one on clearance at BPS a couple weeks ago. Just this one color was on clearance. I've only used it once and caught several fish with it. The thing I like most about it is that it stays very shallow. There's this shallow flat I've been fishing that only has about a foot of open water above the grass. My pointer kept digging into the grass but the Stacey King jerkbait stayed up in that top foot of water, and got hit several times coming across that flat.
  21. I like the ragetail craw and Lobster. When I want a bigger trailer, I'll use a spacemonkey or ragehawg.
  22. Once I have caught a bunch of fish on a crankbait, it gets 'promoted' to the elite box and gets a set of Mustad KVD elite trebles. The elite box only has my top producing crankbaits. I'm not going to bother changing hooks on a bait until it has proven itself. lol, it has to earn them.
  23. I've done best with the white cavitron w/ gold blade.
  24. I'd take a rainy day over a clear sky any day. I always enjoy the opportunity to wear my rainsuit. As long as there's no lightning I'll be out there.
  25. Yep, I'll have to agree with this. :-)
