Yeah, definitely compare the two reels for IPT. I noticed the BPS Pro Qualifier 7.1 has 29 IPT while the BPS Extreme 6.4 (older) is 28 IPT. Not enough difference to make a real difference.

Sell it and buy another 6.4:1. Haha. Seriously, a faster reel can be great for jigs or plastics where the fish can take the bait and then swim towards you. You need to take up line fast to set the hook before the fish spits the bait. Also topwater frogs for the same reason. Or, any lures where you work them with the rod more than the reels, like jerkbaits. Some people can just slow their retrieve speed if they need a slower speed. I do this with spinnerbaits on a 7.1 reel, but I can't do it well enough for slow rolling them, or a crankbait for deep diving. For that I need slower reels.

6'6" MH/MF, 1/4 - 1 oz. lure rate, with 12 - 14 pound mono type line for crankbaits, jerkbaits, lipless baits, and topwaters 6'6" MH/F, 1/4 - 1 oz. lure rate, with 14 pound fluorocarbon line for jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and plastics rigs 6'6" M/F, 1/4 - 3/4 oz. lure rate, with 10 pound mono type line with Shimano baitcaster for any light lures too light for each of the others. Also shaky heads and other finesse plastics rigs, inline spinners, and topwaters (this rod would have to replace my spinning rod, hence the Shimano reel, they cast so effortlessly). I would throw as low as 1/8 oz. baits on this rod, but I went with 1/4 oz. as the bottom end because I want this rod not to be whippy. The Shimano reel will ensure the cast is effective with lighter than recommended baits.

It is a lousy time to show it but this schedule is what they've used for the last several years at least. Day one on Saturday. Day one again, and day two, the following Sunday morning. Then, day three late that Sunday night. It blows chunks. I think B.A.S.S. should leave ESPN for another channel. I'll be the first to tell you I don't watch any sports at all so I honestly have no idea how the network works, or what it's schedules are, but I've always felt like they treated the bass fishing coverage like it was not very important. Any prior to shows of games that ran long always took precedence and ran into the bass fishing coverage times. I know this is probably just the way it has to be for any game going into overtime, but as someone who cares not for the game, I find it annoying when they finally get to the bass coverage in the middle of the show. Not trying to be a baby about it but its bad enough that they have it on at weird times already.

I used to practice cast on asphalt when I first started fishing. I soon learned this tears up your line something fierce. Sometimes tall grass can do it, too. Grass blades have sharp or rough edges. Murder on fluorocarbon line.

To each their own. I wouldn't look sideways at it just because it doesn't have an aluminum frame. At its price point you're only $20 away from reels that have aluminum frames. Right now, the BPS Pro Qualifier is on sale for $80. That's the same price and it also has an aluminum frame, not to mention better braking.

I did a search on eBay and couldn't find any active, completed, or sold listings under that name. I'd love to see what else he might have.

We're you aware before buying that he'd put all that extra stuff in the box?

Amen, brotha, preach it! I'll never buy another one. Had one once years ago as my first motor and liked it. I was inexperienced then and mostly bait fished. It was fine then. I bought my second one remembering my first boat and the good times but my bass fishing style has changed dramatically since then so it didn't work out well this time. The motor is just way too slow to react in situations where you need it fast. Also, it's just awkward to work since the pedal doesn't operate in the natural movement directions of your foot. i have to do a dance it seems to stay on my feet and use it at the same time. I changed it out for one of the All Terrain motors. Cable steer all the way now!

Here is my 3 year old granddaughter getting into fishing. This was last fall and wasn't her first trip but it's probably the first one where she was old enough to comprehend what was going on. She did manage to catch her first fish on this trip though. It was the crappie, and on my line. I casted a roostertail out and asked her if she'd like to crank it back. She did and that crappie grabbed it. Once while taking pictures the fish wiggled and caused her to get nervous. That's what's going on in the picture where she's looking at the fish in a scared way. But she didn't drop it, she just held onto it and then let it go.

Bring an inflatable raft and a paddle and point her to the dock and keep fishing.

I guess it depends on your weight, too. If you're 5'8" and 175 pounds then it might be fine for you. I'm 6'3" and 280 pounds. That makes a difference.

I have that same 55 pound trolling motor. Had to have my pedal repaired a few years ago so having it replaced doesn't mean it's a bad thing, it just makes me think it might possibly be a common to fail part (electronic), but I bought mine new and it had other problems besides that as well. It's an expensive motor but I've already replaced it with a more traditional type cable foot controlled motor. Only other thing I saw listed was a rebuilt carb. To me, that suggests the proper care wasn't taken to winterized it each year. What else was ignored? If you buy it, I'd insist on a test run on the water. If they don't want to do that then I'd take that as a sign and leave.

Having the reels professionally serviced and getting the gears polished can do it also.

It's actually not bad at all. I don't think the paint is even peeling. He just wants it a different color besides green.

It might look tipsy to people who haven't been in it an seen for themselves that it's fine on the water. You can't argue with results, if it works then its obviously safe.

From what I know, batteries need to be nearly exactly the same to parallel them. If not, the weaker one will drag the stronger one down to its level.

Yes, any paint stripping can be done outside. Is it necessary to strip it though?

What do you mean access to the outdoors close by? Do you mean water to run the boat in? If so, then yes.

I have a friend who has a Jon boat that he'd like to redo. I'm going to be helping him with it. We'd like to add some plywood flooring over the ribs for a smooth surface to stand on. Also, a front and rear casting deck, elevated above floor level. There will be a rod locker in it as well. For now, to start out with, we'd like to paint it. It has the original green finish on it now, but it's not smooth like paint. It has a textured surface to it, and I thought this might have been some kind of coating applied to the boat to leak proof it. How would you go about painting this? Just rough up the surface with sandpaper and paint over it, or prime it first and then paint? Maybe something else we haven't thought of? Any help is appreciated. Any suggestions, for paint or otherwise, we are grateful. Some details on the boat. It is 14 feet long and I believe has about a 5 foot beam. It has a tiller steer 18 HP motor. There will be a removable fishing seat on each deck.

I'm just getting started in jigs but I seem to have gotten lucky since the few times I've tried them I've had hits and landed fish. Some of them were keepers. Live bait is another thing I don't use. If fish aren't hitting lures, I go home.

A junebug. I was 13, picking and eating wild growing raspberries and blackberries. I saw a particularly large one and I snapped it up and popped it in my mouth. A second later I felt the claw like feet on my tongue and tasted a horrible bitterness. I couldn't quit spitting for the rest of the day.

I'm surprised as I can be that nobody said the ol' classic, Vienna weenies. I just finished a can of them, too. If I go alone or with a friend it's any combination of pop, chips, cookies, Little Debbie cakes, candy bars kept cold, and sandwiches. If I go with my wife, I'm liable to be fishing from the front deck with my back to her and in my own little world, smell somebody cooking burgers on the grill at a nearby campsite on the lake, turn around and realize it's her frying them on a propane grill in the back of the boat. Yeah, she did that once. It was awesome eatin' since I was severely hungry, but after it was done I told her to never do it again. She asked why and I just pointed to the 12 gallon fuel tank behind her. She was like, wow, never gave it a thought. Thought you all might enjoy that story. Man, they sure were good, though. The whole time I was eating I kept thinking how bad that fire could have been.
