  1. I think it's more likely bass "turn off" to boats approaching, bad casts, poor presentations, noisy occupants, etc. than any one bait. I have seen from shore bass fleeing when the TM is lowered.
  2. I find this offensive to people that grow one stalk of corn at a time.
  3. Wow, brazen criminals! Luckily, it would take more than a few tools to get the gate off my '10 Sierra.
  4. Phhhhtt! $100 shaft reduced to clear inventory. The price was right.
  5. I use Daiwa reels, so the brakes are centrifugally activated. There isn't enough RPMs to get the brakes going on a pitch, and I use almost zero spool tension.

That's what I was going to say. It's only happened a few times for me, but when the 2nd fish bites, the "fight" becomes weight.
  7. So, when I first bought my boat, used of course, I didn't realize the plug connection for the OB charger was bad. It took three full days on Santee Cooper to realize my TM batteries were dead. 3 days! I've never ran out during a day of fishing. I really can't compare to any others, since my last boat was a deep-V walleye boat for Lake Ontario, and didn't use the TM too much. Like I said, they've worked fine for me.
  8. I use bunny strips too, but mainly as a leech imitator for northerns. As a trailer? That has me thinking...
  9. 1. Yes. 2. Water Temps below 60°. 3. No trailer.
  10. No, the Templar Knights are holding them all hostage.
  11. The key is to reel a deep diving suspending jerk bait to depth before starting the jerk-jerk-jerk-pause game.
  12. I bought a dozen Curados at about that price + tax and resold them here for $80 TYD. I already answered that way back in the beginning. I would ask what the price was right.
  13. What I want to know is if the item was marked similarly to the example. Dick's doesn't price their items with any product identification - no SKU, description, UPC, etc. Just a sticker with a price. They use the whatever tags come on the item, and whatever retail price is listed on the manu's tag. The "sales" prices are stickered over those tags. That's what I'm getting at. Was his lacrosse shaft really mislabeled like in the reel example he made? If so, then fine, you can say he wasn't ethical, but certainly within his legal rights. It's definitely not stealing. If he intentionally switched tags, that's another story, and is considered theft.
  14. Oh lord.....he *thought* he committed a crime, so he should go to jail argument? I want to hear from Clary on this.
  15. You don't need a tool, or a professional, or have to cut your rod to fix this. All you have to do is go up to the website, and order the part for $5. have the rod handy, because you'll need the model and serial numbers to look it up. The new tip with instructions on how to replace will be in your mailbox in a day or two. http://www.stcroixrods.com/shop/catalog/Rod_Repair_Parts-8-1.html# Click on the top left Tip Replacement Guide box.
  16. It's called debate. If you point fingers at someone, then you should be ready for a defense. How did he know it was mislabeled? This is all built on an assumption, and I clearly stated why an item would be priced that way, and in fact have purchased at items at even deeper discounts. Same circumstances. Dick's only uses simple price stickers in white, yellow, and orange. They do not list the SKU or UPC on their price tags. So, I repeat, how do we know it was mislabeled? I bought a $200 bat for $40. It wasn't mislabeled. Why is it ridiculous to you that a lacrosse shaft (lacrosse season doesn't run into winter IIRC) could discounted as much? Did you read my post entirely? Do you understand the practice of tracking margins? So Bassclary, why do you think it was mislabeled?
  17. How many times should I ask, how do you know it was mislabeled? No one can answer that without asking an employee. Otherwise, it's all supposition, and throwing around insults and giving ethics lessons is moot.
  18. Again, how do you know it was mislabeled? I bought my son a $200 baseball bat for $40 at DSG a couple years back. It was simply clearance priced at the end of the season. Most items at DSG aren't stickered. If they are, that's the reduced price. No it didn't ring at $40 at the register, but they honored the orange clearance tag. As far as some of the examples above, some are totally unrelated and quite ridiculous. I can't see a parallel. If that makes me a sellout, so be it. I ran retail stores for years, and no you are not obligated to sell the item at the price on the sticker. The only price you are tied to is if it's actually printed on the item. Stickers can be moved and switched. Heck, I even caught a thief with one of our price guns once. What many of you don't get is that retailers do not consider profit on an item by item level. That is too granular, and you'll end up with excess inventory if you follow that mode. Example. You buy 10 widgets at $10 a piece. Retail is $30. you only need to sell four at retail to begin making a profit. When you are left with the last five, you have already realized a 33% margin - perfectly acceptable. Mark them down to 50%, and sell three more. The last two you can sell for $5, and you still made a profit on the SKU. As long as you sell the items, your margin increases. Now, there are certain items that almost never get discounted. Some companies feel this p[practice devalues their products, and it doers to an extant. But that is why you'll see crazy markdowns on items.

    Wayyyy fake.
  20. I agree, a bass isn't going to hurt your gear. Where I fish, there are some pretty big fish. Last Saturday evening's short 3 hour trip I caught 5 smallies, two brown trout, one over 10 lbs., a "small" 24" rainbow, and had a Coho salmon on for about 15 minutes before it shook off at the boat. All just drifting in 10 feet of water chucking a spoon. So, while a bass cannot damage incorrectly set gear, other fish can. Older Abus have a two piece spool, and I've seen them split on the shaft and bent. Some cheaper, plastic framed reels billed as big game reels (Okuma Striper series) don't hold up either. I've replaced both spools and worm gear/line guide assemblies on these reels.
  21. A lot of armchair ethics going on here. How would you know if it's mislabeled? You ask. When you ask, most places - especially DSG - give it to you for that. I just bought a $130 rain coat for $40 today. The whole rack was priced like this. It didn't ring up at $40, so I asked if it was a mistake. She said, "who knows?" and rang me out for $40.
  22. Can you really call lush coontail a "weed" though? Seems insulting.
  23. I've gotten bent spools from striper and salmon guys using braid and too much drag.
  24. My boat came with Optimas. I have no issues with them.
