  1. Never anchor straight down. Ideally, you want twice as much line out as you are deep. So, in 20 FOW, you want at least 40' of line out.
  2. Be careful there....It doesn't equal success for me. Success cements the deal. Example: I've put in hundreds of hours with a C-rig. I've caught some dinks. I know how to fish it. I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than use it, though. I have NO CONFIDENCE that I'll catch a decent limit with it in a tournament.
  3. You're over thinking this.... Use what ever works, though I wouldn't go over 8 lbs or so with parachute chord - gonna cut into your hands.
  4. If you're worried about stripping gears, then you're using the wrong reel. 6.x:1 isn't really a slow reel, in fact you're better off referring to IPT, mentioned above. I personally use a Zillion or TD-X for my frogging. They are 7.1:1, and 6.2:1, respectively. I don't notice any difference in the leverage or torque between the two of them. You're talking maybe 4"/turn difference. But, I use the rod to move the fish, not the reel. Main things: strong drag, heavy line, aluminum frame, stout rod.
  5. Peas and Carrots Angry Gill
  6. Confidence is gained through time and experience -- and success.
  7. Weather permitting, almost every day, even if its just a short trip to the pond, or some night casting at the outlet. Winter time, once or twice a week for cold steel, though I've curbed my trips to the bigger rivers.
  8. Spend it one of these and you'll get positive vibes ever time a bass eats it Winner Winner Sheen Dinner!!!!!
  9. Spammer. Sorry guys.
  10. Rather than attack someone for something you think is wrong, take it as an opportunity to educate, and possibly learn something yourself. There are plenty of articles here that deal with catch and release best practices. Take a look. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/fish1.html
  11. Go to your corners girls, and compare carrot stix!
  12. You want five big bites in a day, or a shot at the biggest fish in the lake? For five big bites in one day, jig. Anywhere, any time of year there is open water. The second deal, swimbaits. Might take you all summer, ubt you'll be the man.
  13. The two orange XTC Caps on the right are very good reels for the money. They are a bit heavy, but they are as good as anything in the $100-$150 range.
  14. really?...i have always been under the assumption and from what i have read, bass can have an extra pound or two during the spawn. The bigger the fish, the bigger the percentage...this is interesting I can't say about bass too much, simply not enough years fishing the spawn, but for trout they are heavier when in good condition, but not prespawn. Browns are tanks in spring. Muscle must be more dense than eggs?
  15. Cap'n crunch has about 21g of carbs. Special K Strawberry has 27. Let's ban that too, LOL. Its cereal guys - of course it has carbs!!!!!!
  16. On a nice warm day, where you're over the magic number (combined air and water temp of 120°), I wear appropriate fishing clothing...lightweight, zip off leg pants, UV blocking shirt. I wear waders only on coolish days, but the combined air/water temp is over 120°. Any lower than that, I use a semi dry kayaking suit from Palm. When you're fishing in a possible hypothermia situation, there are other precautions to take. Something you might want to bring up later.
  17. See the Forum FAQs..... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?virboard=gen_bass;num=1133376419 C-ya!
  18. if you were smart you would have dusted it right when I put it up, I have been so busy I probably would have forgot all about it lol Its all good, LOL. Bonus advertising for you. Besides, they don't know my spots. (Quiet ww2, they're actually Noel's spots, and I'm sworn to secrecy ) Yeah but I'm not ................ok when you get out on the big lake take a left...... or was that a right? Either way you guys are sure to find it, if you get to Detroit, or the falls you've gone too far ;D ;D I don't remember, he drove in circles, I got dizzy. When I came to, we caught big smallies, LOL.
  19. So, when you hold your ruined ITO, you think the DIY approach was the way to go? I have no issue with guys learning and will even help them out as best as I can, but dude you hosed that thing. Have you oiled the thing, yet? See if that works. It'll probably get it close. I'd take a crack at it, but will give DVT his right to 1st refusal.
  20. My ex-girlfriend caught the largest smallie I ever netted - a 6-4 from Lake Ontario, from more than 16 years ago. Ladies can fish with me anytime.
  21. Clean and replace drags with Carbontex from Smooth Drags.
  22. Last year alone, I know of 3-4 kayak get togethers on Briery. I missed every one of them
  23. NY State is catch and immediate release, artificial only until 3rd Sat. in June is what DVT is talking about, Nate.
  24. Not only that, I' find I end up detuning the spool speed with something a bit more durable than the TD-Z oil from the factory. The average guy doesn't want to HAVE to oil their reel after every trip. At least that has worked wonders wit my two Zils for me. Believe it or not, Shimano's Bantam Oil is the stuff I'm using in my Zills, LOL.
