  1. Same could be said of other sports...... :-?
  2. Nice work! The beauty of a kayak is you can lock down on the fish, and the boat becomes the drag.
  3. You got it. Bostons are awesome dogs. Parents have two, and we had one growing up. Edgar may end up going through therapy dog training. He's still a puppy himself, but he's so easy to train, and built to please. Agafuh is already panning out to be my dog. They'll both be getting some boat rides, LOL.
  4. 9 week old English.
  5. I'm sending my wife and kids there in September.....but I'll "have" to stay home and take care of my fishies. It's gonna be awful not hearing, "You're going out fishing again?"
  6. I named Edgar, my 3 year named Agatha, except it's "Agafuh." LOL.
  7. Another puppy! Meet Agatha: She and Edgar hit it off immediately!
  8. Can you stand, and walk around in it? Like stand up, and turn around without tipping or falling out? Standing is one thing, but standing and fishing comfortably is another. My friend can stand on one leg in a surf ski racing kayak, but that's about it. Anyway, to the OP, plenty of people fish from a sit in. If it gets you out on the water, then I'm all for it! It's just that sit on tops are simply better suited for fishing. There's a reason there are 1000 different SOTs for fishing, and about 3 SINKs.
  9. Stand and fish, comfortably. Being able to stand, is a HUGE advantage.
  10. 1. Some very small jigs 2. Profile is more important than "size." That could mean a lot of things, like mass, bulk, movement, etc. 3. It's always bugged me that of all the details we toil over, ALL FISH THAT BITE MUST NOT SEE, OR IGNORE THE HOOKS!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
  11. It really depends. The 10' rod I use for small creeks is mod-fast. I've used a faster, bit I prefer them for spoons and other baits you move with the reel. My 13' big water rod is a giant, slow slob, bends all the way past the handle on a big fish. Very good at protect light leaders. As far as using pins for short drifts, it actually better. Most assume the pin is for the long drift, but its more about control of the float, and the bait below. There really isn't any other way to be so connected to the flow of water in a pool, especially when its a deep, slow pool. This fish was caught in a pool only about 10' long, and 4' wide. My recent report in Other Species is from the same hole, though the water was down at least a foot. The only thing inhibiting you from using a centerpin is you. You can get a decent Okuma for less than $150. Mine is going on two seasons, and showing no signs of wear.
  12. The old breathable waders Dutch oven.....uggghhhh!
  13. Chartreuse w/ Chartreuse painted double willow. Bubble gum with downsized single Indiana or Colorado blade.

  15. I got into it for exactly the same reason - winter goes by much faster if you're fishing Congrats on your 1st fish. They are great smoke cured. I do a teriyaki and spicy mango marinade for mine. Next thing you'll need.....centerpin rig. Once you go to the darkside, you never come back! 8-)
  16. Nah, if it gets that short, I'd retie with new leader anyway. Not enough fluoro to make a difference. I'll add that I use this setup for shallow, light to moderate weeds, and in casting situations. If its a just a deep drop or short pitches in deep (20'+) water, then use straight fluoro.
  17. Not going to be fun landing a fish on a 6-12' leash. Skip the swivel.
  18. The length of the rod is fine. I use 6-12' leader.
  19. Great advice on the frog. Add in a Mattlures Hard Gill, and you pretty much will violate every little mud puddle you fish.
  20. That's awesome, I can't believe they ran the story. What's even funnier, it didn't even make it in "Odd News."
  21. Been using a couple of AZ8 bags for a couple years. One of them was tournament bag for all of last year, as a non boater. They're decent, especially on sale at Gander., I think I paid $50 for them. A couple things: the bungee on the top is long gone, one has a tear in the clear "map pocket" in the lid, you'll want to drill some drain holes in the bottom, and if left open the bag droops a bit, making it a little tough to zip up. Mostly an issue on warmer days. All in all, a decent bag, and has outlasted many, many other bags. Like them so much, I added a smaller AZ4 and AZ6 for short shore trips or as a guest on another boat.
  22. My avatar is "east side." ;D
  23. Yep, this time of year is tough, I've caught a few northerns in March/April while legitimately fishing for trout. Especially in certain estuary environments very close to me, LOL. As far as fishing the Oak, there are special Great Lakes Tributary Rules for fishing trout, and its perfectly legal. Its when you are targeting out of season fish that it gets hinkey.
  24. Nibbles: Rockabilly and Ragtime both cashed in on a certain "hipness" and Rockabilly drew a lot from old swing bands. You really aren't far off with those two, though they seem completely different to the ear. Dave: Check out the rest of the album for sure. "Hell" is sure to please as well.
