  1. Looks like just some tinkering with scrap parts. One thing, no neutral or reverse. Just a little noisy too, LOL.
  2. There's been a ton of tricks and tips. I couldn't name just one.
  3. I think you're being a little idealistic to think a teenager is going to remember what someone told him on a fishing forum five years later. If he can't afford baits, my advice is to get a job.
  4. Until he speels better, its a non issue. He won't find any sponsors. His spelling is only half the issue. Wanting free or discounted baits isn't any real motivation for a lure maker.
  5. I've always wondered about this. I realize "quality" is a subjective term, and I don't doubt the ability of you, Mike, and several other people that aren't necessarily pros, but I wonder if anyone was turned down for something like replacing OEM grease and oil with something "else". :-?
  6. You realize this is what you're getting behind, nhclone. Whatever you do in plain view of your sponsors or potential sponsors can and will be scrutinized. Every post is an impression, so don't waste them on bad ones.
  7. Joe's dates make perfect sense, now, LOL. I remember suffering closed seasons for many years here in NY.
  8. No apology needed for learning something.
  9. Is the season even open that early? I thought C&R opened May 15th. And Canada is completely forbidden until the end of June.
  10. No, they have the same bearings, for the most part. Upgrading to a carbontex drag is just that, and upgrade. Isn't going to make a Curado into a Core. The difference between the two is weight. There really isn't anything you can do to a Curado to make it into a Core.
  11. While there's no doubt that a service out of the box will improve many reels, I recommend fishing the thing like you stole it, while its under warranty. Anything goes wrong, send it to the company. Once its out of warranty, have it serviced.
  12. Anything I've ever seen of them live is just lights. Stage productions? Look up The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black.
  13. I disagree. If you ask 100 anglers for color recommendations, you will see a trend....your answer reflects that trend, in fact. I'll limit my advice to bottom plastics, not Senkos, flukes, paddletails, etc. Some kind of black, some kind of green, and some kind of brown is really all you need. From there, reds and purples are deadly on certain lakes.
  14. The only thing they did was put a rubber ring on the spool to prevent slippage. You can braid on any modern spinner, just be sure to use a few wraps of old mono, or an electrical tape backing.
  15. Happy Birthday!
  16. Seems like that is something you'll have to figure out on the water.
  17. LOL, Phish...the band that worked real hard at making crap. Only band worse than Phish was the Dead. If you want to talk Ben and Jerry's , then you need to get you some Willy Nelson's Peach Cobbler. It helped me to quit smoking. And I don't even like peaches.

  19. That's kind of what I was getting at, but its pretty hard to criticism KVD.
  20. It really depends on the model. I have a Kistler DS spinning rod that has a silly soft tip, but a medium power that's a lot more hefty than any mediums I own. Now, all my Avid XF rods, AVC62MXF, AVC68MXF, AVS63MLXF are a bit stiller, even the ML spinner. They all still only really load up on the top 10" or so, but the Kistler is so fast, its almost not suitable for anything other than straight drops.
  21. I have an Avid AVC70MHM that used like this is PLENTY strong enough to rip through weeds. The reason I step to the faster LTBC70MF, is simply because when I feel a tick from a reed, and give the rod snap to free the bait, it all happens much quicker. The moderate or slow action crank rods are too slow to recover, and already have quite a bit of bend. Now here's the thing....when I watch pros on TV use big old fiberglass buggy whips for this, you'll see really dramatic sweeps from them. I don't need anything like that with a fast action rod. To each his own.
  22. That's why there are pros that do this.....it just isn't practical for the average guy. There are several advantages to grease. 1. Quiet. 2. Smooth. 3. Knobs and handles don't spin free on feel baits, transmitting false vibrations. 4. Heat can be an issue, especially with bigger fish, and light line. 5. Keeps liquid contaminants out.
  23. Doesn't matter, use what's comfortable. I use casting gear, but most of my rip baits are 100mm or larger.
  24. Maybe this will help.; I'm probably giving too much away for free, but in the interest of learning.... Shimano Curado: http://fish.shimano.com/media/fishing/SAC/techdocs/en/Low_Profile/CU200E7_v1_m56577569830694674.pdf These bearings would get packed in grease, for smoothness, and low maintenance: 31 3927 and the bearings under the knobs Oil these: 194 (x 2) 3910 That give you an idea?
