Help with techniques?
not sure if its considered "pitching" but it gets the bait in the water quietly and accurately from a short to medium distance. definitely a great cast to learn. You got it, roll cast. Great for spinnerbaits around overhangs. A pitch is more the pendulum style cast, where you use the rod tip as a fulcrum. The flip is where you have a measured amount of line out, and simply strip line from between the reel and the first guide to quickly lift the bait from the water and move to the next pocket.

WOW! I Won The Lottery
I get one that is a beaut every six months or so. Its an old school scam, and used to be perpetrated through snail mail as well. I get an email asking to photograph a "high profile" wedding, based on references someone provided of my excellent work. The wedding is always somewhere on the other side of the country. I am instructed that a money order will be sent, should I choose to accept, and it will include payment of $40,000 to include services, my normal shooting rate, and print package, plus travel, food and lodging. I know at least one photog that has bitten. You cash the money order/cashiers check at your bank, and a few days later, you contacted again. It turns out the wedding is a "no go, " and the bride got cold feet. They only ask that you refund them 1/2 money, and to keep the rest as a non refundable deposit, and will keep you on the "top of their list" for future engagements. It turns out the money order/cashiers check is a forgery, and it generally takes the banks six to 9 months to track this down, and remove the fraudulent funds from your account. By that time, you've already sent the crooks $20K, and now your out the $40K you originally deposited. In the end, you were robbed of $20K. Pretty sweet deal, huh? > I feel bad for people that fall for this crap, but c'mon - how gullible can you be?

Build a beginners bass tackle box
Since its a beginner, I'd stick mostly to reaction baits. Spinnerbait, buzzbait, 4-8' crankbaits, and a Senko style worm. I'd tell the newbie to fish the reaction baits from top to bottom, and once bit, ply the area with the Senko.

Help with techniques?
I think your talking about what I'd call a roll cast. I like quite a bit of brake and lots of thumb for that too.

Pitching a Jig
For docks and timber, I like Arkie style jigs. For mats, a good pointy head grass jig is the way to go.

Pitching a Jig
I'm accurate and quiet up to about 20 feet. I use a pitch cast for trout fishing in winter, and I can pitch the long float rig pretty far, though its more of a sidearm, sweep cast, probably around 50 feet. Sometimes I pitch simply for a low trajectory, but not the quiet entry, like throwing jigs under docks. These casts would be pretty far if there wasn't anything in the way because its a fairly forceful cast. The jig goes under the dock, and the line often times hits the front edge of the dock.

Help with techniques?
For flipping, brakes and spool tension don't matter. For pitching, the spool doesn't generally move fast enough for the brakes to matter, but the spool tension should be loose. Slow rolling a spinner bait is retrieving so the bait remains very close to bottom, or makes contact.

Floodgates are open!
Took a new guy out to the ditches I usually haunt, and went 0-1 this morning. The guys near me said I lost the "big one." I didn't see it, and I didn't deserve to catch it anyway, since I stupidly thought I could do a better job than my drag controlling the fish. Grabbed some lunch, and went back, stuck two rats, missed two more, and ran into my neighbor, so I stayed and fished until dark. Not a bad day, all in all, and I was actually warm this morning!

Warm Weather Fishing Boots
I have a pair of Keen Newport H2O as well. Best summer footwear ever. Mine are blue, though. Black would get too hot.

Weird Band Names
If you're refering to these guys, the time would be about right. I think Joe was killed in '88-89. Joe Generra released an album last year, and AFAIK is still alive. Dave Schulthise committed suicide in 2004. Metaphysical Graffiti wasn't released until '89, and they toured non stop after that album was a hit. http://www.fistolo.com/Catalog.html - third album down. Oops, I meant my truck driver Joe was killed in 88-89. Thanks for short bio though. Always wondered how far these guys went. Oh Jeez! Sorry to hear that. That was a long time ago, for me..... Funny how things change. Funny how they stay the same. I heard "Punk Rock Girl" on the radio a few weeks ago, and laughed.

Favorite spring topwater
Big Sammy and Big Gunfish in Aurora Black. Not really a topwater, but worked so fast it is: big fluke baits; albino works fine for me.

Weird Band Names
My band opened for them back in '89 or '90, and they were just as weird as their name. Harmless, but weird - and that's coming from a guy that had a two foot blue Mohawk back then, LOL.

Fast Tournament Boats...
Get your own, better color scheme, fish alone, and have a 360° room to move around. Personally, I'd like a center console, but one that seats two or three. There's a guy that has a Bullet 20CC on another forum, and he has two jump seats that pop in place for passengers.

Speedy reel cleaning tutorial
If you look closely, the bearing is most likely shielded, not sealed. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE SHIELD. There is usually a small notch in the flanged shield, and this is the ideal location to place a drop of high grade oil. You may need a magnifying glass to see it. you can also simply fill the outermost channel in the shield, and oil will eventually get in there. One other thing, some Floogers use NMB or NHBB (New Hampshire Ball bearinf) and the shields have six or more notches, so just place the oiil on the side. you can just put the oil right on the ball bearings on a Shimano A-RB.

Speedy reel cleaning tutorial
I've opened up enough reels that I generally only consult the schematic when reassembling. I do occasionally take notes while breaking the reel down. Every once in a while, I come across a new reel (usually a spinning reel) where disassembly isn't quite clear. Then I will consult the schematic until I am comfortable about my understanding of how the reel was assembled in the first place. This saves time by passing by my old, trial and error method.

If you keep a finger over the retainer clip, as you pop each apex out, it won't go flying. Nice work man.

Record Rainbow
Here's the story which was told to me "first hand": The fish was a brood trout which was released into the White River and monitored. It stayed in a somewhat isolated pool. According to my witness, the Arkansas DNR shocked the area and retrieved the trout. Several days later the new World Record was landed on the banks of a new housing project on the Little Red River, which was financed by a developer and a number of notable politicians. Coincidence? Anyhow, that's the story. : Can you say "insider information"? Wow.
