A fish is a fish, a catch is a catch.

If you break off a fish is it a death sentence?
Yep! I caught one a couple years ago that had a heavy duty worm hook jammed right in it's throat. There was some line attached, coudn't have been much more than 4# size. The fish was very thin, but clearly was willing to eat, just couldn't swallow food. Removed the hook, and I'm pretty sure he recovered, based on how violently he struck my bait and how feisty it was during the fight and release.

H'bird SI. Drop a point. Cursor over to the spot, and drop another. Edit the way points using custom icons. I'm not sure how the Lowrance system works. Anyway, sounds like you might need to calibrate.

Budget friendly recommendation for crank rod?
How about giving us the budget? A $400 rod is budget friendly, if your budget is $1000. For $100, the Okuma EVX Crankbait Casting Rod 7' Medium is the very best I've tried.

I'm not sure I understand the question entirely. I like to mark two spots, one for the actual spot, and one for ideal boat position.

Makeshift priest?
Probably over kill, but should work.

They don't. Try it for yourself, put a hook in a glass of water. Tell me how long before it dissolves.

Makeshift priest?
Anything that alters the length of the fish is illegal, if there is a length restriction. For trout, I bleed them out by severing their gills. I don't typically keep bass.

Thoughts on Tokyo rig?
It's an over-complicated Jika rig. The purpose is to let the weight drag the bait straight down through the weeds. Thing is, there's already simpler, and FAR less expensive Jika rigs out there already. This one looks like a weed magnet. I guess it allows much heavier weight to be added, but I can do that myself:

Hardware for installing kayak carry handles
I bet someone close has one you could borrow. I used my dad's rivet gun to fix a gear track on my Commander. Still have it, in fact.

ABU Garcia Revo SX Casting Reel Review ~ (video)
Pure Fishing is a forum sponsor. They've provided some tackle to members for honest review. Guess what? Not all were positive. The alternative is to let a fan boy post about them, or straight up lie, if what you're implying is what I'm thinking.

There splicing kits, as well. Just learned about them a few months ago from another member.

Choppo vs. Whopper Plopper
My point that the tax isn't the reason that prices on lures are so high. That tax has been a constant for decades, and in fact was capped on rods at max of $10 in 2005. Inflation, tariffs, labor, etc. are the most likely cause. A lure that cast $5 in 1990 now cow costs nearly $10. https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

Hardware for installing kayak carry handles
I'd think a rivet would hold up fine. My Commander is several years old now, and it's loaded with galvanized rivets. I don't fish salt, but I also don't see any rust.
