  1. Seems like flick-shaking might be an off shoot.
  2. This is a family site!
  3. So much gossip, based on nothing. The pit boss is available in both OG and Powerbait versions. The Powerbait is $.50 to $1 more on most sites.
  4. There is no standard for how tapers are classified. This chart is a pretty good representation of each taper with equal force applied: https://s22.postimg.cc/mho2njnjl/G_Loomis_NRX_Rod_Action_Chart.jpg
  5. Both systems work fine, but with ANY reel, you have to develop a modicum of technique. You acquire this skill through practice, and when you're learning, you will backlash. I don't find that either system is better or worse, just different.
  6. My father caught all sorts of fish, from bass to salmon to northern pike with one rod. It was a 7-6 Garcia Conolon spinning rod. Medium heavy and moderate fast taper. Paired with a DAM Quick 5000 spinning reel and 10# Trilene, he threw just about anything, short of really tiny baits. I imagine with braid, you could downsize the reel, and find a rod with a similar action, and be able to handle most anything. Would it be ideal? No, but it would work, and work well.
  7. What makes it better than just using the cavitation plate to get back in? Also, doesn't look very comfortable on bare feet.
  8. I didn't have any issues with 50# that I tried.
  9. I use braid and a leader when working in grass or other light cover, or pitching to beds. Straight braid for bubba shot in slop. For deep, open water I use 6 lb. Tatsu, 7.2 lb. Finesse, or 6 lb. Invisx. Finesse is quickly becoming my favorite. It's very similar to Tatsu in that it's a dual formula fluoro.
  10. I don't. I might go to a darker bait, and I might check for a shallow flats bite, but for the most part, deep fish do what deep fish do.
  11. I had a 45 on a similar size boat, and it was just ok. If you can do the extra battery, go with the 24v system. My buddy has an 80 Ulterra on his Lund 1650 Rebel XS Tiller and it works great.
  12. With a scale. I hook my spring scale to a vice, tie on a hook, and pull.
  13. How could you bend drag washers by cleaning? Make sure they're installed facing each other, like this: ()
  14. Get a pair of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineman's_pliers
  15. Admittedly, I tend to force feed it to the fish. I've started leaving it at home, so I can try other baits.
  16. Northern Pike, pickerel, carp, snapper...
  17. I was thinking the same. I'll try to make time, though it doesn't matter - my knots are pretty strong.
  18. I do this, but the main always cinches before the tag. I *could* pull the main more, but that always results in a kink before the knot, so I pull the tag. It's a knot I trust as well.
  19. Don't just leave it in a box, fish the dang thing. A Popmax has accounted for more catches than most other baits I throw...combined.
  20. Culling issues, lol.
  21. I used a leash for a bit, but more as a tether for using the paddle as a mud anchor. I agree, they are pain when paddling. I've been using a bent shaft paddle for a few years now, so no more rolling off the deck if I set it down.
  22. Since when is fishing where their prey is present a bad idea?
  23. I do this too. In my seminars, my speaking partner Paul would tie up a Palomar on 6# Invisx and only get a little more than 4 lbs. out of the not. Conversely, I'd tie a Palomar on the same line, and get just over 6 lbs. before it broke. The lesson was, It's not the line, it's the person tying the line. I noted the difference was in how each of us cinched the knot. For the OP, think of the DS as a terminal rig. Any soft plastic bait, any hook/line/sinker can be used. Make your decision on what to use based off the cover, depth, and bait you're using.
