What's that one secret lure....
Fussy, difficult to pitch, inefficient rig for sight fishing. I stand by my opinion, though that's all it's worth.

Does anyone actually believe there's any secrets in bass fishing?

Small Club Politics
If the club is in a downward spiral, the dates aren't the issue. It's the club officers' job to find the issue, address it, suggest a solution, and raise a vote. If they can't do that, then when it comes time vote for officers, the ones that think they have a solution should run for that position. That's how clubs work...

- Punch Shot vs. Jika Rig
Reminds me of my homemade jika punch rigs. In general, the jika rig is meant to pull the bait straight down through weed cover with the long weight first, and the bait free behind it, unlike a pegged Texas rig that drags and drapes the line over the weed cover. In general, I find I can use less weight with a jika rig than a traditional or pegged Texas rig. For punching, I find an ounce or once-and-a-half plenty to get through the worst slop, whereas punch rigs can be north of two ounces. There is definitely a different action to the bait as well. I wouldn't exactly liken it to a drop shot, though superficially it might look like something similar. A drop shot holds the bait in the water column, hovering in place off the bottom. Here's a pic of my homemade jika punch rigs. They work. I like any slender craw style bait, Rage Craws and Lobsters being my favorites.- Is it just me or...
@wnybassman showed me a trick. You leave your silicone net right on the deck, and lay them on that if you need to.- Is it just me or...
I sing to them before I release them...."Born Free" is one of their favorites. Here's the deal: Don't put them on anything abrasive or rough. If it would hurt your eyeball, it's probably not the best surface. Wet your hands, and any surface you may set them on. Don't bread your catch in dirt and gravel. A Fish Grip is better than dropping them, or jamming the scale hook through gill plate. Remember, it may be a non angler that sees how you treat the fish, and those impressions can last a lifetime, no matter how wrong they are, so use some uncommon sense - dig deep for it. Most of all, let's use this thread to educate, not lynch other anglers.- About public domain water rights
There have been decade long legal battles over water rights. Personally, I see a trend of shoreline landowners over-stepping their bounds on public water, but that is a political post for another forum....- Is it just me or...
Carpet is a no-no. A wet, smooth surface is okay. Wet grass is fine, breaded in gravel and dirt is not. You should see how delicate trout fingerlings are handled at hatcheries, and how they're added to streams when stocking.- About public domain water rights
This is not a universal thing. It can vary from state to state, town to town, county to county, parcel to parcel. Like you said - GET PERMISSION. And carry proof of it.- New idea and venture...
I knew someone from a photog forum that did a similar process. It's not an easy click and print filter, that was for sure. The effect is so cool in person. Wayne's wife has skillz!- About public domain water rights
Get what ever permissions you need documented, and prepare to produce that to any law enforcement that I'm sure you will encounter.- Drop-shoting Shad
I don't know about dead, salted shad, but we used to catch bass all the time fishing for crappie, pre-bass season using fat head minnows on what would later become known as the "drop shot rig."- Drop Shot hook snags
If it seems like it's the hook, and you're mostly dealing with brush (not timber), the Owner Down Shot weedless hooks are really good - just remember to use a wrist-flick set, and not a reel set when you sense a bite. I like these hooks for weed edges. This is one time where I prefer to use 15 or 20# braid, and a leader, despite my loud mouth preaching straight fluoro. Good luck working it out. Much of fishing and rigging is problem solving. - Punch Shot vs. Jika Rig
