  1. What's to guess? Put a level on the trailer, and jack it to level. Back your truck up, and get a close estimate. If the tongue weight drops your tow vehicle so much that it's not level, something's not right with the tow vehicle. I'd say my truck drops less than an inch from the tongue weight.
  2. Apparently, I was the only one imaginative to run the river for deep smallies. Everyone else that day fished the shallows. Only two limits brought in that day. Funny, everyone threw them the next week. I didn't, came in third with jig fish. No one caught a thing on the rig. Who's unoriginal there? I suppose it's the same as way I feel about C-rigs. And Kent, I have caught a few on the outside baits. Both singles and doubles.
  3. Ok, I'll play. How does one measure "effective ratio," and what does it mean? Please quantify this specious term.
  4. I've probably caught over 100 fish on various umbrella rigs. I've never had a problem foul hooking them. In fact, longer jerk baits do more damage.
  5. Josh, I responded there, and I'll respond here. Your math is not correct. What you're suggesting is tantamount to being able to change gear ratios in a car transmission simply by changing tire size.
  6. The math looks flimsy. Gear ratio is constant. You don't go on reverse to get it.
  7. Your letter B is how the leverage net was born. The folding aspect came after. Kaykers have been doing that for years.
  8. Gear ratio can only be changed by changing gears. All a longer handle does is alter the distance your hand travels. A 6:1 reel is still a 6:1, no matter if the handle is 100cm or 100'. In physics terms, the handle is actually a lever, though not the Type I, II, or III you learned in high school. It's a continuous lever, like a screwdriver.
  9. I heard Eli got caught trying to shoplift a passing touchdown.
  10. Carolina rigs give me brain fatigue.
  11. I have 24g floats for those days, like fishing with a bowling pin strapped onto your rig, lol.
  12. Yeah. I use it in my boat, too, and now I don't need a "net boy" to screw everything up.
  13. Yawn....I'm so tired of "fatigue" posts, lol. My right fore arm, and left triceps were a little sore the next day. No biggie, I recovered. I think I use my 7'6" Deep South XXXH flipping stick that day, with a TD-X 103HSDL and 65# braid. Yanking 17 Lbs. of smallies out of the Oneida was more work than chucking the rig, lol. The hardest part of that day was coutning it down to 12-14 FOW, then reeling in.
  14. I don't fish BASS or FLW events. The last tournament I won. I threw an umbrella all day.
  15. This is the net I use. It is a little pricey, but it's outlived other nets I've had costing nearly as much. http://www.leveragelandingnet.com/
  16. Plenty others up there that I'd be looking at first before I signed on the line for a 20K loan.
  17. That's way too high. There's an 04 Ranger 519VX with updated electronics for 20K. Turnkey, no work. Buy and drive. If your gonna spend that much, get that much for your money.
  18. I bought both my boats with cash. '95 Bullet 21XDC w/ '99 ProMax rebuilt in '11, $8K. 2001 Xpress H56 w/ 115 ELPTO $7K. Both boats had were "turnkey" tournament boats with trolling motors (Xpress had three, two short shafts and a longshaft), extra props, covers, and safety accessories. Keep looking man.
  19. Saw several pics of big salmon from Sandy Creek in Hamlin getting posted on FB. Water's low, but it's raining right now....
  20. Greater leverage. Sometimes it just feels better. In the case of a Hawgtech handle, you're shedding weight and adding smoothness to the retrieve.
  21. It really depends on the bait, and the hook design. I don't certain styles, especially the ones where the point of the hook and the eye are really close, and in line. Owner Wide Gap Plus, and Rig'n hooks are what I use if I'm using a wide gap worm hook.
  22. Yes, from shore. Debatable? It's debatable whether you caught a PB or not - no pics. See what I did there. Just get a cheap net with a 30" or so handle, and toss it on the ground where you are.
