iMac or not???
I'm also a mac fan (imac, and iphone) I had an operating system issue last week with my imac. I took it to the apple store and they wiped the hard drive. About three days ago, the drive bugged out again. I took it back to the apple store. The "genius" at the "genius bar" asked if it was under warranty. It is not. He offered to keep it for 4-6 days and replace whatever needed to be replaced free of charge since I had to return a second time. I have a buddy who had some issues with his iphone, instead of dealing with troubleshooting issues they just gave him a new-in-the-box phone, twice. The customer service is outstanding.

.22 LR ammo
Anybody have a suggestion for a good .22 LR ammo? I'm going rabbit hunting with my father-in-law and I'll have to use an old Winchester 109 that I have.

A question for police officers:
ATX, my situation is somewhat in the middle of bassnleo's and bassn blvd's. I cannot speak to anything other than an urban environment, state run, large city department. My department is the second largest in the state, which usually is a large determining factor in your pay. Bigger cities usually means better pay taking into consideration geographical cost-of-living. It does, however, yield itself to a more stringent recruitment process because of various factors involving quotas. Before I add anything else it's important to say that if you want big paychecks and exceptional benefits, federal is the way to go (ATF, CIA, SS, DEA etc.). The trade-off there is that you most likely will not get the "excitement" of being a street cop. Take that how you will. You'll also have to re-locate if need be. I'll make about 48k this year with OT. Our OT is not seniority based. I have about 4 years of tenure. I can potentially top-out at almost 70k after about 10 years as an officer. To promote to sergeant you have to have 60 credit hours of college courses and 5 years of experience. You can top-out at about 74k. One of the sergeants in our unit cleared 106k this year with roughly 100 OT hours for operation 100's (SWAT-type stuff) and off-duty jobs. Captains, Majors, Colonels all require an exponentially increasing amount of college education from bachelors to masters etc. The pay range will go from 105k to 150k-ish. Our chief is going to cash in about 160k this year. Retirement breaks down like this: 25 and out, with the option to stay on as a reserve until 30. We do not have comp time anymore, so you cannot earn anymore. You do retain what you earned as of last year. 100% payout. sick time is a 5-1 payout. Vacation is 100%. It expires at the first of the year however. Your pension is 75% of the average of your three highest paid years. You are vested in your pension at 15 years. The job is fun. Just the same as any other job, it has good days and bad days. If you work in the city, you will get in fights, you will get hurt, and you probably will get in a wreck. I've been shot at, and I've used my gun. One of my colleagues has been in 6 shootings and killed two people. I believe that 8 of our people have been shot this year. Some guys go 30 without using their weapon, some guys are on six months before they do. The down-side that you don't expect is the days you lose with the people you love. You might miss Christmas, birthdays, mothers day, etc. Those are the hardest things. It can be tough to be a good cop, a good father, husband, etc. all at once. Good luck to you if you go that road.

Enough is enough is enough....
There are two groups of people involved in an effort to help. The first Is a trained group that is helping with an investigative effort. The are other are going for things in place to assist the family. Fundraising efforts etc. The invitation is for a combined effort to get anyone who wants to help, And is coming from out of town, in contact. I'd like to be able to say " I spoke to joe-so-and-so" but, I haven't. I'm sure you could find out who is orchestrating the effort by calling any of these departments. Just clarification. It seems muddy thought this was fake or something.

Enough is enough is enough....
Why do autobahns have lower fatality rates than most any other highways? Does the idiot need a system, or does a system need an idiot. Just food for thought. p.s. I haven't gotten any PM's about wanting to travel down there yet, they will be leaving soon. If anyone wants to go, let me know and I will get you in contact. I can promise that there will be a lot of people to debate this issue with along the way and, you can actually make an impact in the process.

Enough is enough is enough....
I have some friends who are going down there to help out with the investigation. They are taking vacation time and then giving the money from the paycheck to the family. It doesn't require any training or specilization, just your time. Let me know if you want to go, I'll be checking PM's. Transportation, housing, and food are all on you.

Revo Toro....
thanks for the pics, since I've never held either or seen them firsthand, that isn't really helpful in relating the size. I'm just trying to get an understanding of the size of the reel in terms of palm-ability and how it relates to a round reel in height.
-
Revo Toro....
thanks flywatersmallie, I've got a rod picked out. so, is it really a "low profile" versus a round reel. I've seen pictures and it looks pretty wide. also, what line are you using on it?

Revo Toro....

Hard @%% State Trooper!
That's inaccurate: New Orleans: As a recruit, the starting salary is $34,797. Upon the completion of police recruit training (typically one year) the salary increases to $44,919. New York: NYC Police Officers staring salary is $40,361. After 5 ½ years of service salary is $76,488. When including base salary, night shift differential, holiday pay, and uniform allowance, a Police Officer could earn over $91,823, plus overtime, after 5.5 years of tenure. the national average is The median expected salary for a typical Police Patrol Officer in the United States is $48,283. That's with accepted tenure. The starting salary (the numbers you see above for their respective depts.) average is $40,224. That's make them pretty much where they should be if not higher than average. Based on Cities with 75,000+ population and rankings for six crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft (the hardest situations). The most dangerous cities in the U.S are: 1. Detroit, MI. 2. St. Louis, Mo. 3. Flint, MI. New Orleans didn't make the list. Buffalo was 24th out of 25. Actually, 6 of the 25 safest cities in America are in New York or New Jersey. On topic: The trooper could have made his case without acting like a bully.

All these posts about music......
For the record: The lyrics are rich with references to the history of Irish nationalism. The song ties Irish nationalism to the struggles of other peoples against the British Empire across the world. It therefore manages to encompass both the traditions of Irish nationalism and international socialism. These are often hostile philosophies in other countries but were united by a shared dislike for the injustices of a foreign monarchy controlling all power in Ireland. The Behan family, though one of many to hold such views, personified this dual allegiance. While the title of the song refers to the Black and Tans of the War of Independence era, the specific context of the song is a dispute between Irish republican and loyalist neighbours in inner-city Dublin in the 1930s. Dublin is, as it always has been, the capital of Ireland. Yet, before 1922, it should be seen as a foreign city. It was the seat of foreign power even before the Norman invasion of 1169, being the centre of Viking power in Ireland and having a succession of Norse kings. The song speaks to the patriotic spirit of standing against an occupying force.

All these posts about music......
And the irish fest in kansas city, made me think about songs that speak to nationalism. Really, we're all from somewhere in a round about way of genetic ancestory..... post something from where your people came from. Maybe it'll broaden the listen spectrum: the traditional: the badass:

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
Thanks JR, the guys and gals overseas deserve a TON of credit. I don't think that people "take for granted" what cops do.... it's just that nobody likes getting into trouble. Generally, that's the only time people see em'. They get to be a part of the worst times in peoples lives. It's the association I guess. Post 9-11 everyone waved on the road, and said "thanks," and said "I'll pick up that bill for them..." that kind of stuff. It's just whatever people feel at the time. Then they get a speeding ticket and they say that they hate the police. It is what it is. I digress, it's what you want to make it if you're a part of it, rather. My partner is fine. As far as the dog goes, my wife and I looked at adopting a pitbull pup from petco today. Pay it forward I guess......

Split Ring or No Split Ring???
For me, it depends on the lure. With some topwaters I take them off. With cranks and lipless lures, I switch them out to ovals. On spoons, I like to add one if there isn't one already. It's a matter of preference it seems.

Turntables + real musicians??
I hook up my ipod in the car at work and listen to these guys when we're out and about. It makes me want to grab people and say "listen to this", especially when we're in the deep deep ghetto. Either that or flip a car over, set it on fire, and start a violent revolution. Heavy lyrical content. But, they put it all together really well. They also play everything, very little electronics.

Stay away from Yo-zuri US
Yeah, It made sense to me at first. Then not so much. I get off work at 3:00. I'm not even sure how I posted that at 3:30. Slow night I guess.
