I tried DavidG. The site told me he didn't receive PM's or he was blocking.

I tried to PM you with a question. Site wouldn't let me. On your butt replacements, does the ID work on most rods?
  4. I had a seat break off in a john boat once while wearing my phone on my belt. In the drink I went. No injury but, phone ruined. Or so I thought. Battery was toast but, after a thorough drying, the phone still works. I don't have it on my person when I fish now. In a zip lock bag it goes.
  5. A friend reached back to cast a crankbait and unknowingly hooked his brother in the side right around the kidney. He felt the resistance and jerked hard to free the lure. Snapped the line, trebles buried. He almost passed out. Not seeing the hooks in him but, his other brother trying to cut it out with an old bait knife. Hospital after that. We laugh about it now 20+ years later.
  6. He was a class act at Virginia Tech and everyone had such a high opinion of him and his accomplishments. (quote) Was he a class act or just had better handlers? How do you go from a good person in college to what he became once he turned pro? Look at what a class act his brother is.
  7. Jimmy remembers that he and Kramer had a pair of those shoes. ;D
  8. My mother and sister make this cheese mix that has a spicey pepper taste. It is made in a ring mold and in the center are placed strawberry or raspberry preserves. The fruit cools and enhances the spices. Eaten on your choice of cracker. I'm sure that I will eat way to much of it this Christmas season.
  9. I have heard more than once the term B@SSHOLE. :-[
  10. What does that mean? :question
  11. FYI DavidG is the REELMECH

I actually had looked up Quahog to see if it was a real town or thing. Didn't know it was the best of the lot. It did make the name of the bar make sense.
  13. In all this time I didn't know until a week or so ago that The Family Guy was filmed in Rhode Island. Where exactly is Quahog and do you know the Griffin's?
  14. Mods, move this if needed but, I figured if it is correct, it may get more play here. I was told by a friend (who also has boat), that if the gas you use in your boat has ethanol in it, using Stabil can do more harm than good. Anyone out there ever hear this?
  15. I think that some short hand and smileys are helpful. They can add emotion to the written word that it normally cannot have. (unless you are some kind of Shakespearian writer) As for not liking to be told what to do, that is pretty natural. You will be surprised as you go about your life, if you just listen, you will find wisdom and good advise from where you weren't expecting. (and from whom you weren't expecting it) It may be possible that there isn't more outrage against Mike because, however he expressed it, many know he is right. I'm sure that if any of these young men asked, there would be older members jumping at the chance to help do more than just make them better fishermen. My advise? I do believe they are still teaching this stuff in school. Apply yourself and learn it. You will be better for it. It will help tremendously if a few simple rules were followed. First, use shorthand sparingly and to show emotion. I think "lol" is one of the better ones. When you refer to yourself, "I" is always capitalized. As is the beginning of each sentence. (which has a . or ? after) Put a space between sentences. Although it is difficult, try not to end sentences with a preposition. (of, them, from). I'm far from a scholar, I just try to follow a few simple rules. Type and hit preview. It it doesn't look right, make some corrections. JT Bagwell are you out there for any advise? I am now going to have a drink. Sorry this has been so long. I hope no one is yawning.: All who will now start to rag and poke fun, and defend the "right" to write and express yourself in an uneducated fashion, have at it. Go ahead and show your hind end. You're not helping anyone. Avid, if you decided to do some livening, PM it to me so I don't miss it before it gets deleted.
  16. You're kidding right? He goes on a self righteous tirade and it's shame on us? That is ridiculous. Fourbizzle, I read a lot of your posts and I see an educated writer. There are so many posts (let's not even include the IM shorthand) that scream out "not learning or being taught to write correctly." Maybe Long Mike was a little harsh but, he's only trying to help. I have a feeling you will change how you see this type of thing as you get older. When you get to be 93 (like Mike ;sorry Mike) you may feel even stronger. I think that sometimes people need to be told they are not doing something (whatever it may be) well. How else will they know that they need to improve? (Everyone has room for improvement) And, it is never acceptable for anyone to not always try, to do anything they are doing, better. Always try to better yourself no matter what you are doing! As I said before, this forum is a perfect place to practice writing skills. edbassmaster....I saw your post. Agreed!!!
  17. David, I once had a custom rod maker (more than a few actually) talk about finding the spine of each rod they build. One then told me that neither St. Croix or GLoomis do this. I called St. Croix the following Monday and they confirmed that they don't. He said that the graphite, once it is rolled, has a natural curve/bend. Is this what is meant by the effective spine? Your opinion as a rod maker?
  18. I think it is boring because of the mutual respect this forums members have for one another. (a good thing) I have seen these debates go really, really bad. I want to commend some of the younger members that have taken a look and recognized the need for improvement. For those that attacked Long Mike (if only in fun) shame on you. Ever heard "don't shoot the messenger?" The truth is the truth, fact is fact. Writing is objective, not subjective. (meaning that proper writing is not up for interpretation) Use the communication in this forum to practice your writing skills. It will benefit you from high school through college and into the rest of your life.
  19. Check your username lately? ;) Big difference between a screen name on a forum and writing for communication.
  20. I am slow at work today and was looking forward to that thread entertaining me all day. :'(
  21. Lack of capitalization,(at the beginning of a sentence and proper names) lack and misuse of punctuation(periods at the end of sentences), gross misspellings, I could go on and on, is not the English language evolving. Shortened words and phrases are understandable in the IM world where words cost money. In the real word we use real words and real phrases. I have 4 kids and 2 of them are teenagers. Believe me I see it everyday. I constantly am on them to write properly. Believe me, if you don't get into the habit of proper use of the language, it will affect you negatively in the long term. Trust me it is not "progress"
  22. Don't tell her you're going to use her toothbrush either. She won't find the humor in it.
  23. I've seen this debate go pages and pages and pages.
