  1. It didn't get bashed because it was a thread about AIM. It got it because it was incomprehensible.
  2. If you go back a few months ago and look at the thread that covered this same topic, the tones are 180 degrees different. That thread defended the ignorance and this one condemns it. Kudos to all for this position. Micro, I used to have the same problem. Hit preview post. It will then look like the post will in the forum. You will see errors more clearly because of the change of background. Works for me. I had a coach in high school that had a sign in his office that said, "practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect."
  3. SRV did Jimi better than Jimi did Jimi. Make sense? SRV gets my vote. He once said that he is not playing the guitar, it is playing him. If you've seen him play, you'll get it. Frank Zappa also gets a nod.
  4. In my college writing course the average grade is a 68. There are no quiz's or tests, just all essays. My teacher rants constantly about how very few people in the class have any idea on how to write. There are essays handed in like posts on this forum. ALL SHORTHANDED! Some even have no punctuation what so ever, no periods to end sentences, no use of comma's, no indentations for the start of a new paragraph, or even capital letters. So now in my class, instead of learning how to write "effectively", we just go over basic grammar and spelling. > A few months ago Long Mike posted a rant about grammar and I didn't completely understand, but now I do. All of this Instant Messaging and texting "lingo" is being carried over into regular writing. It is quite disturbing. I should also add that I'm in an ADVANCED writing course. Thanks Tin for "getting it." I was a part of the discussion that took place awhile back. The hope is that at some point a switch gets flipped in a persons brain. They realize that no matter what the venue be it a college exam, essays in a school environment or a bass fishing forum, they should want to represent themselves as educated. I think that your post about your writing class is a perfect illustration. Again in the discussion a few months back and in this one, PLEASE STOP DEFENDING THE POOR USE LANGUAGE SKILLS. LET'S ENCOURAGE (gently and respectfully) THE PROPER USE OF OUR LANGUAGE.
  5. If I write a one sentence post, I preview it and correct errors.
  6. Very few short of writers and teachers can master all the nuances of the English language. I think what really gets to people is the text talk. The more you don't try to write and speak properly, the less and less you will be able to as you get older. How may people when they were in school thought, algebra, when am I ever going to use algebra? And for the most part, they were right. So, we tend to forget how to do algebra. (until our kids get to algebra and we have to remember fast) But, language, spelling and writing skills, we use them forever. Let's always practice doing them right from an early age
  7. I'm getting hungry. Except for the Busch Light and warm (probably spoiled) potato salad. Wasn't the combo Tipp, it was the bad potato salad.
  8. Mike, You know from the past that I am in your corner. What is more painful than the butchery, is the defense of said butchery. It is always promising though when a young person is aware and makes every effort to be as correct as possible. If I may use an example, hookemdown is a good role model for his peers.
  9. dave replied to dave's topic in Fishing Tackle
    Yes.
  10. Took this from another forum posted by another member here known as Castaway. Thought it was worth the read. Thanks Ivan http://www.insideline.net/articles/lipless.htm
  11. Happened to me too.
  12. With all due respect Ronnie. If you quote the bible, it's a religious post. Sorry Avid, I couldn't resist buddy... Ronnie But, right is right
  13. You're kidding, right? :-? That thing is a spelling and grammatical abomination! I could probably find 30+ grammatical rules and spelling mistakes throughout that "apology". If I had legal representation, and I sent out something like that, I would have my own lawyer sue me on grounds of stupidity. X2
  14. Yes, on the side that you have to open, those pin brakes control the beginning of the cast. Knob under the handle control the end of the cast.
  15. From what I understand by reading the paperwork with my Shimanos, pin brakes on the side opposite the handle, control the spool at the beginning of the cast. The centrifugal brakes control the end of the cast. Check this out www.japantackle.com/Topics/brake_system.htm
  16. I thought that city (I won't try to pronounce it) was about an 1:40 away from Dale City. We're you the guy with the St. Croix issues or the guy with the Castaway Soft Touch rods?
  17. Ma'am can you please hold your son's hand so he doesn't get lost in the tackle section? ;D
  18. To you and my mother in-law.
  19. Paflooger baitcaster vintage 1939.
  20. This one has potential.
  21. Because braid doesn't compress like mono, not as much will spool up on a reel. Don't count on as much line going on as the spool says will go on.
  22. The first e-Trade commercial when the talking baby spit up at the end.
  23. I had had a table for the last 5 years. Just selling rods, reels, baits. I got there right at 8 this morning. Already a long line. It was weird to stand in line to get in.
