  1. Denny Brauer did a great tutorial on reel settings on the Bass Pro Shops website. Hold your rod straight out with your lure hanging. Release the spool. When your bait hits the ground and stops the spool, your good. Fine tune if you choose from that point.
  2. As often as this happens, is there a way to fix it?
  3. I had always heard that red was the first color to disappear. (actually become colorless) Blue was still seen in dingy water and at deeper depths. That is the basis behind red fishing line. It "disappears" in the water.
  4. Maybe yours grows back quickly. Mine stopped growing back in the mid 80's.
  5. I happened to be in a Walmart years ago when the Tour Edition round reels were out. I tournament fisherman was returning 6 of them around August. All had some sort of failure. I'll also agree that if it is true that KVD blows bearings every tournament, the free new reels still aren't worth the problems.
  6. If you are practicing in your yard then, try pinching the line between your thumb and fore finger to keep the line tight on the spool while you reel. When you are on the water, the pull and weight of the lure work to keep that tension. In the yard, you have to do it. It will tend to keep the line from digging in. It doesn't sound like back lashing because he is already familiar with baitcasters.
  7. I have a friend here in MD that guides for bass on a top water bite, in the evenings, all summer.
  8. This has turned into a fast food employee bashing. (some deserve it, some don't) No one knows about any individuals situation and why they have to work at a certain job. (there but for the grace of God go I, or anyone) Matt ranted about something petty. (didn't get enough sauce) I think he even, after the commotion, realized this. I too do not go through any drive through windows. They are what they are. I recognize it and do what I have to do to keep my own sanity.
  9. Was one of the lucking 46,000 at Nationals Stadium in Washington DC with my wife and 4 kids to attend Mass with Pope Benedict XVI. Something we'll never forget.
  10. The reason you get bit in the butt is because your in front.
  11. Does any one have an opinion on sealed or maintenance free batteries as opposed to the batteries that need water maintenance? I'm pretty decent with care so, I'd like to get a decent battery. I just finished off a Bass Pro Shops battery that I bought in 2004. It started going short life last year and this year she is dead.
  12. Looking for a good one. Any suggestions?
  13. I had not heard this before. However, I have been told by someone at Shakespeare that the BPS reels are actually Pflueger reels that have been private labeled for BPS. So BPS reels = Pflueger reels. JT Bagwell Maybe it's the other way around. Bass Pro makes the Pflueger reels.
  14. I was told by a Bass Pro associate that the company that makes Bass Pro Shop reels is......Bass Pro Shops. He said that Bass Pro opened a factory in China and make their own reels. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. Maybe that's the line they've been instructed to give. Has anybody heard this?

  16. A friend (he's a member here but, not an active one) is a guide on the Potomac River here in MD. A number of guys have started catching some big cats here and it is catching on as a dedicated sport. Two in the last year that set state records for Blues. 65# last year and 67# this year. 7'6" rods and 4000 series spinning reels. Fresh cut herring, large shiners, black salties. Circle hooks.
  17. One of the lines they use here in the DC Metro area is to go and see the Caps so that you can say you saw this guy play.

Pretend you have forgotten. Then my friend you better come up with something good while you're at work. And I mean GOOD!
  19. I've done the same.
  20. I snagged a 12+lb'er on a Rattle Trap one spring on the Potomac River. One of the best fights ever.
  21. I did the same thing. Kept looking for the part where the Steez breaks.
  22. Ed is a forum member.
  23. A good while back a thread ran sort of like this one. Here was the gist: If you come across an item that you are interested in, post. If not, don't.
