  1. According to the owner of LBL who also has a lodge on Huites it’s a numbers lake with a lot less big fish like Baccarac. If you want quality Baccarac is the answer even though it’s getting plenty of pressure.
  2. warrior2bass.com for Orlando area. The Hawgtech guys sponsor him. Great guy & guide. He will put you on fish. He is primarily an artificial bait guy.
  3. You could just go ahead & build the rod with what you have. Then if your knot doesn't work just use straight braid or straight mono/flouro without a leader. Problem solved.
  4. Common sense is overruled by regulations & bureaucracy.
  5. Caught in your home province too on Lake Athabasca.
  6. LC pointer 100 jerkbait.
  7. If your comfortable with the weight & balance of the rod in hand then it might be a good choice on the budget end. I would use it with braid & a leader for best effect. As others have mentioned it would probably work well for topwater & other treble hook baits.
  8. The most disgusting year of our lives.
  9. I'm in the camp of just stick them on. If you glue them it will be tougher to remove with water temp changes. It will also be tougher to fine tune the placement as to where to position the weight. Now if you have unlimited baits like a true jerkbait aficionado then glue them on & just substitute baits as needed for different weight placement & water temp changes.
  10. I started this topic as a reflection of the past & to serve as a ray of hope to others. Five years ago today I was officially diagnosed with esophageal cancer graded between stage 2 & stage 3. I'm not a superstitious person but receiving the cancer diagnosis on Friday the 13th seemed bizarre but depressing never the less but a date I will always remember. I knew I had a medical problem prior to my scope but never saw that diagnosis coming. My wife & I some close friends explored treatment options & decided on a course of action. I chose to get treated in Miami FL at the Sylvester Cancer Center. That decision saved my life. I received 6 weeks of chemo before surgery and 6 weeks of chemo after surgery. My tumor was located at the junction of the esophagus & the stomach where the valve that is supposed to prevent stomach acid from migrating out of the stomach is located. My surgeon removed my esophagus & a marginal part of my stomach replacing the esophagus with my stomach which he shaped into a tube like structure. He also removed 17 enlarged lymph glands for testing. Long story short it all worked & the cancer had not spread. Ten years ago a cancer of the esophagus diagnosis was an almost certain death sentence. Today it can be beat if caught early enough. Modern day medicine has come a long way on the tedious path to good health. Special thanks to the medical community for all they do serving others.
  11. Yes I do. When I lived in Ohio & PA we fished it the fall for salmon up at Devils Hole for a few years. Later on I fished it for steelhead & lake trout in late fall & early spring. I also fished it a little for walleye, smallies, brown trout & a couple of December musky trips. On my 50th birthday my wife & I fished it for lake trout mostly at the bar, the Niagara bar. My goal was to catch 50 lake trout on my 50th birthday between the two of us. We only caught 48 lakers mostly in the 8-12 lb range. It was a blast catching that many fish in late March. I have a lot of fond memories fishing that river with close friends. I only fished it a few times with stick plugs what we used to call jerkbaits. Mostly floating rapalas & rebel minnows. With the strong current you could really set up a great drift pattern with both DD jerkbaits & suspending shallow baits. That strong current really puts the advantage in the fishes favor.
  12. Your right it's not your normal river. It's probably the best in the country for quality fisheries of numerous species. Just keep fishing it until the smallies fall off then change gears & fish for steelies, lake trout, brown trout, salmon, walleye & musky. Enjoy & post up some pictures.
  13. Location Location Location Location Location The rest only matters in hindsight
  14. First time I had it was with baked beans, cut up green peppers, bacon pieces & diced onions combined with fried fish fillets & a slice of buttered bread after a mornings fishing with a shore lunch during a fishing trip. Good stuff.
  15. Tiger sauce. It's not overly hot but great flavor.
  16. Profound!
  17. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jackall_Rerange_110MR_Jerkbaits/descpage-JK110MR.html These deserve a serious look.
  18. As long as I don't have to clean them perch are my wife's & my favorite best when lightly fried with cracker meal coating. Walleye are 2nd favorite and very good grilled as well as fried. Note I love catching fish but hate cleaning them.
  19. I have eaten yellow perch, walleye & crappie. Walleye are flaky white fish liked by almost everyone with little oily or strong taste. Yellow perch are of the same family but smaller in size & a little sweeter in taste. Crappie are similar to perch but slightly bigger fillets & less sweet in taste.
  20. Almost everyone got their trips this year cancelled due to the border closing. Most guys were able to roll over their deposits until next year. But the border may still be closed next year because of covid 19. Lots of camps could go under financially if the season is closed two years running. So be careful with your money regarding a deposit. The camps that rely on American customers instead of Canadian customers are between a rock & a hard place. 2021 could be iffy.
  21. I use braid and have had success with it. But I have learned that some techniques might be better used with mono or fc. The Mexican guides at lake Bacarrac insist that braid decreases the bite. I have learned to follow their lead down there. I think the braid transmits vibration through the water with moving baits. The only technique I would use it for in Mexico is jigs or other slowly fished baits. I always used 10 lb braid on Lake Erie for smallmouth combined with long mono leaders for jerk baits, cranks & jigs, blade baits & dropshot. I never felt that the braid costs me any bites on Erie. Mexico has been different for some reason.
  22. I have not targeted smallies exclusively but did spend most of my bass fishing time chasing them for a decade. They are addictive after you catch your first one.
  23. Glad your house was spared Paul. Stay safe.
