  1. Think about the lures you typically throw. Are there some that you feel would work better on a baitcast setup, for whatever reason? If not, you really don't need another setup. I think that far too many of us waste inordinate amounts of time trying to think of reasons to add more equipment to our "arsenals" instead of focusing on getting the most out of the gear we already have. But, it's your money.
  2. I stumbled across a pretty good deal on some NIB Shimano Sahara 1500FBs, so I picked up a few. I'm thinking they might make decent shaky/dropshot reels when spooled with 6# fluoro. Your thoughts?
  3. Just like Carrot Sticks. ...along with Crucials, Cumaras, and a boat-load (pun intended) of other supposedly higher-end rods.
  4. X2 Are those Daisy Dukes he's wearing, and what the hell is that thing on his head? The fish is an odd one, but that dude is really creepin' me out...
  5. X2 I'd take a Revo S over an SX any day of the week. I'm not a fan of magnetic brakes at all.
  6. I've never used their stick baits, but their 4" hook-tail ringworm is my most productive soft plastic, by far. I buy at least one pack (usually two or three) every time I run by BPS, which is fairly often. As a matter of fact, I just got back from Kentucky Lake where I wore them out all week on the 4" Slurpies ringworm and Berkley Power Shaky Worms. I brought a foot locker full of different lures, but never had a reason to switch.
  7. I handled the 6'8" MXF spinning rod and some Vendetta spinning rods, and was really surprised how tip-heavy the Vendettas were. I've read tons of posts about how tip-heavy the Mojos are, but the spinning models I've handled are MUCH better balanced than the similar models in the Vendetta lineup. Personally, I'd pass on all three and pick up a Quantum Energy PT instead. Light, better balanced than the Mojo or Vendetta, Fuji Hardloy guides, and a lifetime warranty. I picked one up a little while ago for my brother-in-law to use and have been really impressed by it so far.
  8. I'm spending the week on Kentucky Lake and have been wearing them out using "Bama Bug" colored Power Shaky Worms on Gambler Giggy Heads. They work great but they don't hold up at all. One worm = one fish.
  9. 20# Power Pro is roughly the same diameter as 6# mono. If you wanted to something about the same diameter as your 10# mono, you could try 50# Power Pro. Personally, I'd stick with 20# or 30# Power Pro on a spinning rig and save the 50# stuff for the baitcasters. As far as the rods go, I'd pass on the Ugly Stick and pick up a Lightning Rod or an Abu Garcia Conolon Premier. Either one will set you back less than $40 at your local Walmart, and they're both much more sensitive than the Ugly Stick.
  10. For that price, I'd pick up the Avid. If I could've found a deal like that around here, my BIL would be using an Avid this year instead of the Energy PT.
  11. I go through this every year. Here's my thread on this subject from a few weeks ago... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1277708310/0
  12. If I saw a sign saying "No Fishing" on a dock that was located in public waters, I'd fish it just out of spite.
  13. 7'6" 3wt Redington CT 7'10" 6wt Redington Predator Neither of these pics are mine. I'm just too lazy to locate the camera, go downstairs, get the rods out of the tubes, etc. ;D
  14. I don't see the big deal. They didn't hit you, your boat, or your dock. The water and/or fish under and around your dock are fair game, imho.
  15. Dude, don't even bother. You're arguing with a 15 yr old. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1276806711/19#17
  16. Wow-where is the love? If a person can't be bothered to take an extra second or two to add proper punctuation and/or capitalization, it makes them seem unintelligent, careless, lazy, and/or disrespectful. Just my $.02
  17. FYI... my dad works for the post office(mechanic not postman).. They do not have to get out... they are allowed to do what he did and if you have a nice postman he will get out but everyone has a bad day now and then... Ours has skipped our neighbors house if his car is too close to the box.. Ok, how about my a**hole mailman who flies up my driveway with two tires on the concrete and two on the grass, leans out the door of his little truck and bounces my packages off my garage door? > Are they allowed to do that as well?
  18. x2 Now, if they'd give me a $10 gift card for every $50 I spend in the store I'd be willing to make my next several purchases from them.
  19. ;D All I can add to this discussion is this: I served as both a steward and committeeman when I was a member of UAW, and I wouldn't go out of my way to do it again.
  20. like what? you can't cast heavy lures or use heavy line like baircasters and also i have found spinning rods dont do well in heavy cover 1) It's not the reel that dictates the maximum size/weight of lure that you can cast, it's the rod. 2) There are saltwater spinning reels designed to handle 25+ lb mono. If you need to go heavier, use braid. 3) The Sahara 4000 I used to use to toss frogs and toads had, iirc, a 17# drag and had no trouble yanking fish out of the weeds when spooled with 50# PowerPro. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you've been using the wrong spinning gear.
  21. Unions vary from local to local and contract to contract, and much of it depend on the quality of the elected officials. There are also major differences between labor unions and trade unions. A good union can be like a second family, a bad union is like...well...your in-laws family. ;D
  22. I picked up a pair of Abu Garcia Conolon Premier spinning rods for my two oldest boys about this time last year, and was rather impressed. They're fairly light and much more sensitive than I had expected. I found them in the clearance section of my local Walmart for a little over $25 a piece.
  23. I went to a local shop to buy one when they first hit the market, about 5 years ago I guess. It was a real disappointment. It looked and felt cheap, and the cover for the light-collecting doughnut on the top didn't fit well at all. I wound up walking out with an EOTech 552.A65 and never looked back. Mounted it on a LaRue EOTech riser so I could have lower 1/3 co-witness when my irons are deployed, and I can remove/replace it without losing zero. It does everything I need/want it to do, it's waterproof, parallax-free, doesn't block my iron sights, offers the fastest target aquisition of any optic I've tried, and can still functiom as a large ghost-ring sight if my batteries should die.
  24. According to the manager of my local BPS, they only have a 1 yr. over the counter warranty. After that, you have to ship it back to Shimano. He claims this is in response to a request by Shimano earlier this year to help "protect their interests". I brought in a two year old Crucial with void in the cork that was starting to cave in, and they didn't want to replace it. : I no longer own any Shimano rods.
  25. I bought a bunch of Stanley Wedge spinnerbaits, all in the same weight and color. Roughly half were made in the US while the rest were made in China. Holding them side by side, it's easy to tell which is which...but if I had bought one at a time I probably never would've noticed.
