  1. I stand corrected. A 5" Senko weighs more than a 7" Power Worm, 3/0 EWG, and an 1/8 oz. bullet weight. A 4" Senko with no hook weighs the same as a 7" Power Worm, 3/0 EWG, and an 1/8 oz. bullet weight. 4" Senko (Kinami Flash) 7" Power Worm, hook, weight For the record, a 5" Senko (0.40) weighs almost as much as two Trick Worms (0.45), according to my little shop scale.
  2. I highly doubt a 4" senko weighs 3/8 oz, which casts fine on a Zillion or any decent baitcaster - even my Bpro Extreme. Your posts didn't say anything about 4" Senko, you just said Senko. A 'standard' 5" Senko weighs 3/8 oz. The point I was trying to make is this: Saying your reel excels at casting weightless soft plastics based solely on the fact that you can cast a weightless Senko is misleading, at best. A weightless Senko is still a fairly heavy lure. If you want to see how well it handles weightless lures, try casting a 6" floating worm, 4" ring worm, or a Trickworm rigged with a 2/0 offset round bend hook.
  3. I haven't weighed a 1/4 oz dropshot rig, but a weightless Senko weighs 3/8 oz. which is the same a 7" Power Worm and an 1/8 oz worm weight.
  4. Are you lubricating the knot well before you cinch it down? The friction of the braid through the fluoro knot could be cutting a nice groove in it, making it weak.
  5. Simple, just load them up in your car and drive them to Atlanta. I honestly can't tell you how many I caught the other day on a 5wt fly rod and a Bett's Trim Gim in yellow. If they didn't hit it within 2 or 3 seconds of it hitting the water, I'd just cast to a different spot. I was using a foam popper at first, but the nasty little buggers ate one of the eyes off of it and two of the three "legs". ;D
  6. I had a similar experience with a 6'10" MH/XF Johnny Morris Signature Series casting rod. It was just a dead stick. No vibration at all. It was like fishing with heavy gloves or mittens. The 6'6" MH spinning rod in the same line was fantastic, though. Wound up bringing it back to BPS and exchanging it towards and Avid.
  7. Fly lines are kind of like rubber-coated braid. A nail knot works since it can compress the rubber and keep it from slipping. Many of the newer fly lines have a loop at one or both ends to facilitate attachment of leaders and/or backing, so the nail knot isn't used quite as often as it once was.
  8. The majority of the staff at my local Dick's can barely give directions to the rest room. I definitely wouldn't trust them repairing a rod.
  9. Simple solution, get the Citica and a St. Croix Triumph. It's the same blank as the Mojo, built in the same factory with the same warranty but doesn't have the split grip or fancy purple paint. It'll set you back about $60-70 or so and Dick's has them in stock. In any case, pass on the cheaper baitcasters. With few exceptions, they're more of a hassle than they're worth.
  10. x2 The entire outfit (rod & reel) retails for less than $45 brand new. Figure roughly half of that for a used setup, and then subtract half of what's left for the missing reel and you wind up with an $11 rod. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10205074_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2 Pass on that deal.
  11. Well, if the coupon expired in '93 the reel was probably made in '91 or '92. If that's the case it's not worth any more than any other used 5500C3. I know you said it was unused, but once it leaves the store I consider it "used". They run about $90 brand new at BPS and $75 for a brand new one on Ebay, so you're probably looking at $50-60 or so.
  12. I've never owned or used an HSTA, but I do own a Patriarch and a Curado 200e7. They're both great reels but I'd take a Patriarch over a Curado.
  13. I have bunches of spinnerbaits from several different companies and all of the Terminators I've bought have had extremely crappy split rings. A couple of them didn't even look like split rings, they were more like flimsy little wire loops with only about 30% overlap. I no longer buy Terminator spinnerbaits. They're no more productive than my Stanley spinnerbaits, and just aren't built well enough to justify their price.
  14. There are very few problems in life that can't be solved with proper application of the BFH and/or the blue wrench.
  15. Unless you're tossing huge swimbaits or something similar, the 300 is overkill. The 200E will handle pretty much anything you're likely to encounter while bass fishing.
  16. x2 The first words that popped into my mind were "telephone pole".
  17. I picked up the 7430 a while back and Rooster is correct, it is extremely smooth. My complaint is with the limited size options and their weights. The smaller model (7430) has an arbor diameter that is only 0.08" larger than the diameter of a Symetre 2500FI spool. Not enough of a difference to justify switching over. It does cast well, but I've yet to see a spinning reel that didn't. The larger model, the 7440 has a spool that is larger in diameter, but the dang thing weighs 11.2 oz! Way too heavy, imho, for a freshwater spinning reel. An Arbor 7435 weighing in at 9.5 oz or so would be just about perfect for me, but unfortunately that's not an option. They only offer the 30 and the 40.
  18. Let's not forget about its and it's and the misuse of the apostrophe when making things plural, such as "I have a box of crankbait's for sale".
  19. Is it gray or grey? I think we may have to go to burley for a ruling on this matter...
  20. Everybody has a boss, and typically the higher you go in the complaint process, the less they want to be bothered. In my experience, they'll do what it takes to get you out of their hair so they can move on to more important issues.
  21. For about the same price or a little more, I'd opt for the 6'8" MXF Avid and the Shimano Sahara. When it comes to finesse applications, you need a light sensitive rod. The reel isn't as important as the rod when you're talking about spinning gear, imho, since any spinning reel will do well casting light lures.
  22. That's what happens when you type one-handed.
  23. ALWAYS deal with a member of management if you have a problem. The advice I was given years ago was "Never accept a NO from someone who lacks the authority to give you a YES."
  24. x2 This perfect example below was posted yesterday on a local forum: A "winterbangle" is a bracelet with a winter theme (I googled it), I believe "tosteroven" to be a synthetic testosterone, and a "macroweve" is something some women have done to their hair.
  25. x2 I have no interest in keeping any of them (regardless of size) and I definitely don't fish for fame or notoriety. It's a good thing too, I'm not very good at it. ;D
