  1. yeah just take prices fork, mccoy actually runs right into prices fork, just look for it on the right. But just follow that the whole way and you will run right into the river. take a right, go just a little bit down that way and there will be same space to park on the right side of the road. just kinda a stip of gravel. but make sure to keep exploring, the falls are great, but just keep following that road along the river and just kinda find different spots. If you keep going it goes away from the river, but just take a left when you hit a dead end and it will take you right back to it. Have Fun!!
  2. Im in blacksburg right now too, im going to VT. I love to go down to the river as often as i can, which isn't as much as i'd like. but anyways, i go down the the McCoy Falls area every time, but there are a lot of people who fish there. It has good potential for big fish i believe though. Also if you have a boat (which i do not) you can go to the Whitethorne boat ramp and go down stream, i here there are several very good spots down that way that i am sure you could get some big ones there. other than that i just basically drive around until i find good spots. there are a few that i like to go to, but im really not even sure of how i get there. ( alot of dirt roads ;D) Good Luck!
  3. i live pretty close to the Dan in North Carolina. I never really knew that there were any smallmouth in there. there may not be down south were im from though. Where do you Fish it at? im going to have to go try my luck down there soon.
  4. im not really sure, but i fish rivers and i thought the same thing. I think it is better to fish casting up-stream. cause if there is current, the fish's regular food would not be going upstream. im sure more people on here would know more about it.
  5. that sounds pretty cool, where are you staying this year? i know that i'm going to really try to explore more of the new and find good spots to fish. I have already found 3 or 4 good stretches of river to fish and im always looking for more.
  6. Ive heard that claytor is not too bad. alot of smallies and muskies and stuff. the only problem is that i dont have a boat. otherwise i would be there all day everyday.
  7. cool deal, are you going to school here? im assuming you are. i'll have to try out some of those things. im already kind of planning out my game plan for lures the next time i go.
  8. i've spent about 15-18 hours wading the new river on this past weekend. real good time. good luck to ya!
  9. yall, i went today and caught just a lot of rock bass and a few really little smallmouth. but i missed a few that could have been good. but im going tomorrow morning pretty early in a different spot so hopefully i'll do better! i was using mostly a GY hula grub in green pumpkin. and a few little tubes that i caught a couple on. but if any of yall have any other advise about something to use it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  12. Hey! im going to Virginia Tech, and im going to the new river. Any tips? suggestions, comments. anything will help alot. im am new to smallmouth so i need to get a little advice. just in case it matters i'll be fishing around McCoy falls.
  13. hey there fellas. i am a freshman at Virginia Tech this year and i just love to fish. I am used to just fishing for a lot of largemouths in ponds and lakes back at home in greensboro, NC. But up here in Virginia i have found fishing to be pretty dang different, i went over to the New river last weekend. I have heard how this can be some of the best smallmouth fishing around. we went to a spot that we were told about from a guy who said he caught almost 30 in a day. so we went and we didnt catch anything. one fella who i was with caught one fairly small one, and then later at a different spot i caught one tiny one. I was trying all sorts of different baits, from plastic craw imitations, worm, grubs, tubes, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and i cant really remember what all else. so i just want to know how exactly to fish for these guys. where we were fishing was an area with alot of rapids and fairly fast moving water. We tried alot slower water too and didnt have any luck there either. So i guess what im asking is what is best to use and how to fish it. it would be a great help! im going again this weekend so hopefully i'll do a little better. thanks!!
  14. thank yall a ton, im sure the advice will help. i have a pretty good number of rooster tails already in a few different colors, as well as a few different interesting types of spinners that i might try just for fun. And i have a CD-7 already. but im wondering if it will be too big, i'll be fishing in a fairly small stream. so should i try a smaller size countdown? or just stick with it? THANKS
