  3. im not totally sure but you might get a few early bluefish going migrating north. Put a few Gotcha's on there with a leader about 4" long (either wire or a thick mono maybe 30-50bls) and see how those will work Good luck!
  4. thank ya, anything helps. I had a few bites on some tubes last week but couldnt get anything. I'll try some of the things you suggested Thanks
  5. Hey guys, This is still my first year fishing The new river for smallies. I'm just trying to get a good idea of what is best to use this time of year. Also i'd like to try to find out what kind of structure or depth I need to be fishing. Should I go to fast or slower water? Thanks in advance for your help (it is desperately needed )

  18. I'm planning on going down to the river tomorrow, but I have no idea what to try and where because it has been COLD. I'm going to try maybe some smaller jigs or something but I'm really not sure. I also do not know where I need to fish, I'm assuming deeper spots. So if anyone has any tips on how exactly to approach this let me know. Thanks!!
  19. So I started fishing for smallmouth in the summer when I moved up to Blacksburg, VA for school. I have been fishing the New river every chance I get. ( which is unfortunately not too often) but i found some good time to go down there on Friday. I have caught a bunch of dinks down there but nothing of good size until now. This one weighed about 3.5 I think and I caught it on a Zara Puppy! Probably the most exciting way I could imagine Catching one of these.
  20. my family used to own a boat down there when I was little. I would always just catch bluegill and stuff. But i have a friend who always fishes there during the winter down by the dam because the water temperature stays higher. So I'd say just try it down there. Good luck!
  21. just any rod that can handle a litter heavier lure size would be fine. and i agree, go with shrimp, they are easier and work well
  22. i fish a little pond that has been stocked with 20 or so of them. In early spring there they come up and just feed like crazy on anything thats floating around. I just threw out peices of bread and then threw out a piece of bagel with my hook on it (it floats better) and one took it. it weighed 14 lbs and fought pretty hard. good luck with it. i think they can be fun
  23. nice, i want to get me one like that
