  1. Thanks for the props slider head but dont be so modest dude. You have your fair share of 'good' days on Smith. Dont let slider fool you guys....the dude can fish. Hopefully we'll be fishing against each other for the big money at the Fish Off in October.... But if you ask him what he catches his fish on, he's going to say 'worm' everytime. I see all kinds of stuff on his deck but I dont think he throws any of it. I think it's mostly for looks. P.S. Have you spent your big bass winnings from that last tournament yet? I was happy do donate to your cause, by the way.
  2. You could say that. It does act a lot like a Fat Ika but I honestly think the fish like these better. Could be that it looks more like a real craw than the Ika does and I think because of the more realistic look it has a distinct advantage over the Fat Ika when fished on the bottom. All I know for sure from fishing these the past few months and from previous use of the Fat Ika's, that in the same situations, I'd throw the Cover Craw. Jackall has done a great job with all of their products.

  5. Hang tough frogtog! We're praying for you brother!
  6. I'd do everything I could to get him removed from the club, if he's actually a club member in the first place. If he's not a member, call the game warden the next time you see him. Maybe a trespassing ticket is in order for this guy.

Those are some great pics fourbiz, that sure is a beautiful place.
  11. Yes, the ramp at the dam (lower end) is the one I'm talking about. There is some good fishing close by that area, several main channel points and cuts as well as lots of rocky banks. There is another ramp at a little place called 'Pit Stop'....it's a convenience store type deal with a public pool, it's up the lake on the left behind the island. You can get there (by land) by keeping straight instead of turning to go to the dam ramp.
  12. The summer bite has been different for me too. There has been lots more rain this year, the lakes are full, the water temps never got as high as they usually do and the fish have been a little hard to figure out at times. For most of the summer it was like they wanted to go deep but they were caught in between and just couldn't figure out what they wanted to do. I suspect that the lack of a solid thermocline has something to do with it. Typically it's early topwater then move to deep water once the sun gets up....there's usually no 'in between'. It hasnt been that way this summer.....its been more like, early topwater and then gradually fish deeper until you find them. Sometimes it's 8', sometimes 12', sometimes 20'. In fact, I caught some schooling fish 3 weekends ago. I've never seen fish school that early in the year. It was a nice surprise. I'm going straight back there in the morning when we blast off. I still think it's a bit early for a full fledged move to fall but with the milder temps it should happen earlier than normal, so be ready.
  13. I think the split grips look good but I do not like them for my reaction bait rods (cranks, jerks, spinnerbaits)...I really just dont see the point. Now on my jig rods, flippin rods and worm rods, I'll use a split grip without hesitation. I do however, think all bass rods should be made without foregrips, regardless of what kind of grip is behind the reel.
  14. I shoulda known.... If we could actually have a tournament on the upper end of the lake for once, arriving late wouldn't be an issue. It takes me almost an hour and a half to get to the State Park. It's only about 35 minutes to Scruggs though. I'm voting Morman's Ramp for every tournament next year. IMPY, if you've got a 9.9, I'd recommend the section down by the dam, the upper river type section has some serious current.
  15. Yeah man, I aint skeered! I actually went back down there the week after I won that last one. Go on and get your stuff ready and we'll hit it in the morning. Scruggs Ramp is a dump but there's hardly anybody on Leesville.....ever, well, except your gun totin' hillbilly buddy. The lack of jet-ski's, pontooners, skiers and tubers is very appealing to me. Cant get that on Smith.
  16. Yep, thats right, last week in February, water was about 43-44. You and JVD both weighed in some that day didnt you? I went into that tournament not expecting much with the cold weather and water temps but it turned out to be the best day I've ever had on Leesville. I dont know about that....the Feb. tournament last year I caught probably 12 or 13 off one big tree limb then another dozen or so on one dock on the Pointer. Problem was, nothing I caught was over 14". I finally put the Pointer away and whipped out the jig....I only caught 3 or 4 on the jig but one of those was almost 5# and one of the others helped me cull. I know slider head remembers that cause he asked me what I caught that big one with and when I told him a jig he called me a liar about 20 times. Leesville aint all that bad as long as things like slider head mentioned dont bother you.
  17. I used to hate that place when I first started fishing there. There is no constant water level when they pull water almost every hour, very little shoreline cover and the bass were somewhat hard to find at times. The lake has very few docks which means not many houses which means not many people on the lake. I like that. It's gotten better for me though and I actually dont mind fishing there now. It's a great crankbait/jerkbait lake. I've done my best either down near the dam or up in the skinny river section....there's a couple creeks in the middle that aren't bad but I definitely like the dam or river sections better. There are some big bass as well as huge stripers swimming there. I think it's very possible that the next Virginia state record largemouth may come out of Leesvile. One of my Team Fat Boy team mates (slider head) loves the place, maybe he'll stop in and give you some info. Where you at slider head?
