Why don't the pros use them?
The niche doesn't seem to have much to do with actually fishing does it? Last time I checked, everybody shuts down the big motor to fish whether you've got a 3hp or a 300hp. Some guys just have that need for speed and like to feel that rush on the way to their spot. Nothing wrong with having a go fast boat. Seriously.

Lucky Craft Skeet SKT mini MR
I like most of the Lucky Craft RC line of baits....the 1.5 in particular and the 2.5DD. I also use the CBD-12's and CBD-20's on a very regular basis. Might want to get a good lure retriever if you start throwing those LC deep divers very often. If you're looking for something with a TON of rattles, try a CB200. Its a lipped bait with more rattle than a lipless. Excellent bait in dirty water. But....if you can catch 5's on a SKT Mini, go for it. I'd keep throwing those. I just haven't had much luck catching keepers with them.

Question
After many years fishing bass clubs I wouldn't say that what happened is a "common" occurence but it does happen. Bass clubs have all kinds of different people. Usually the older fellas in the clubs are more laid back and more willing to help while the younger guys who think they're going to turn pro in two weeks wont be as much help. So, yes, your buddy might have been shafted.

organizing plastics and spinnerbaits?
Dang! A whole weekend? How many boxes you got? Anyway, the boxes Burley showed pics of is the ones I use. They fit nice and tight in the boat and I can grab whichever one I need really quick. Rummaging through the individual boxes trying to find that one special bag gets a little out of control at times but this is the best way I've found to keep everything organized.

summer bass?
Summer is one of the best times to catch 'em on a number of different things, really. You can get 'em early on topwater, then crankbaits, jigs, worms, c-rig, etc... I feel like location is paramount during this time period simply because the fish are more concentrated in certain areas and on spots. They are less prone to roaming around setting up here and there as, say, in the springtime where you might catch them anywhere and everywhere, up and down the banks. Do some map study and find some things on the bottom that stand out from everything else around it. You can find points under water, humps, depressions, ditches, etc....and, its my opinion that the closer these spots are to the main channel, the better off you will be. If you can find some cover on the structure near the main channel, you've probably located a hot spot.

Same exact boxes too! ;D Now if you put some thin weatherstripping around the rims of the boxes, you'll be officially waterproof.

Lucky Craft Skeet SKT mini MR
I bought some SKT mini's last fall and soon after dubbed them "the official dink catchers". Haven't caught anything decent with them yet. I like the action though and they are obviously high quality cranks.

NEW world record bass caught lake biawa, japan!!!
Me too. If I had half the hair that guy's got, I'd be in good shape. I dont think the IGFA will recognize it as THE world record but man, what a monster. I honestly don't know what I'd do if that thing came up beside the boat with my hook in it's mouth. There's a good possibility that I'd be shaking so bad that I'd eventually shake the hook out myself.

Why don't the pros use them?
Yeah, the $47K Z9 is with the 225 Opti and pretty much the hull with a little carpet. Upgrade to the 250 or 300, (like what the Allison will have standard), plus the other usual upgrades (that the Allison will have standard) and presto! (But again, I'm done with this thread)

Guess the weight
4-4...and it's not his PB unless he beat the other one by 2 ounces. The IGFA said so.

Why don't the pros use them?
DING! DING! DING! WE HAVE A WINNER FOLKS! I'd bet the farm that if any of the 'go fast' boat companies laid out enough money to become the primary boat sponsor of the Elite Tour (knocking out Triton), put up contingency money and also sponsored several of the top pro's, you'd see every Tom, Joe and Harry buying that brand all of the sudden and your local lake would be over flowing with 'em. I don't know. How many people are going to drop $60,000 - $70,000 for an Allison? If you like speed, and that's your priority in a boat, you likely already know about Allison. But I don't think you would see many people dropping that kind of cash even if they did sponsor the Elite series. Ofcourse if they did, they would have to change their entire business model, because that would require them to be able to produce more boats for the Elite series than they currently make in a year. Darris Allison hasn't shown any inclination to make that sort of change. They fit quite nicely in their niche. I fully understand that the go fast companies would have to change their whole business around to accomodate new customers and they probably arent up for that. They are comfortable being small....and expensive in their little niche market. As for people not wanting to spend $60 or $70 grand....I know there are Z9's that are that much already and I see plenty of them on the water. A Z-9 that's over $60,000.00? They list at $47,000.00. I'm sure if you added enough options you might could get it up there, but then if you added those same options to an Allison, you would be talking $80,000.00. OK, OK....you win the peeing contest.

PSA - Check behind your TM prop
....and while you've got the prop off, make sure the screws that hold the guts into the lower unit are tight. Once water gets in and the seal goes bad, everything else gets fried and is very expensive to fix. (I just replaced the lower unit on a Motorguide 109 because of this)

Organizing your hardbaits
I agree about the Falcon boxes. I love the concept behind them but the crankbait boxes just dont hold enough baits. I do use the Falcon spinnerbait boxes though. I believe one box holds 20 - 22 spinnerbaits which is pretty good.

Organizing your hardbaits
It's definitely best to keep things simple. You will drive yourself crazy if you try to micromanage all your tackle. For most all of my hardbaits I just use 3700 boxes. Crankbaits (organized by depth: shallow, mid and deep) doesn't matter whether its a LC, a BigM custom or a Rebel or Bomber, they're all in the same boxes according to depth. Topwaters Wake type baits: (bigger red-fins, Thundersticks, etc) Jerkbaits: I do use the Shimano boxes for my jerkbaits. All of them fit perfectly and I can pull out one at a time. Only drawback is, is that they lay in there belly up so it's kind of hard to see all the colors at once. With the Shimano boxes, I do have my baits segregated by brand, just because I only have enough to fill up 4 boxes. I've got my Rogues in one, Husky Jerks in one, LC's in one and Megabass and other jerks in one. Trying to micromanage my baits creates more havoc than it helps but thats just me.

Owner Hooks... wow
Gamakatsu sharpness is somewhat of an illusion. Their hooks have a fine point that rolls over very easily. Yeah, and the WARNING: EXTREMELY SHARP HOOKS on the package catches a lot of people.

New Crank Hooks
For the last several years I have switched out trebles for Daiichi Death Traps. I may not anymore though if they've lost their sharpness as was the case with the last batch I got. I sent them back and I'm waiting for replacements to arrive. I hope they didn't somehow mess up the Death Traps. Prior to that last batch I got and sent back, the Daiichi's were the best treble hook on the market. Strong and crazy sharp. Other than getting some sticky sharp trebles, I'd get an actual crankbait rod with a more moderate action. Any rod with a fast or xtra fast tip has a tendency to rip hooks out of the mouth. The moderate action will be much better and most likely take care of your problem.
