Mike Iaconelli
Sounds like somebody drank too much Hater-Ade. I don't mind Ike's antics at all. The dude gets amped up......so what? It's nice to see him (or any of the pro's) show some emotion. Those guys are 'living the dream', I'd probably yell and scream too.

Anyone have any tricks for putting soft plastics on the weighted hooks?
Buy the Owner Twist Lock hooks. They're awesome hooks. I know ExtremeLures.com (a board sponsor) sells them. http://www.extremelures.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=202

How would you approach this tournament?
Being that it's only a 3 hour tournament, if I didn't already have some productive spots to depend on, I would cover the most amount of water that I could with a search bait. You should always practice on the tournament lake if you have time, but when you practice, you dont have to hook everything that bites to figure out what you need to be doing. If there's money on the line you can pretty much bet that there are others who will be practicing. And if you cant beat 'em, join 'em.

Smith Mountain Lake Tips
SML is my home lake. In August you'll need to fish at night for the best bite or very early or right at dusk. Middle of the day on Smith is tough to get bit unless you know where they're at ahead of time and the best bite will be deep. The lower end is crystal clear and generally more flat than the upper end above Halesford Bridge which is mid lake. There are several major creeks on both ends of the lake but the more dependable bite will be on the main lake. SML has about 4 million docks. Unless you know some stuff offshore, you'll be inclined to fish the docks. Nothing wrong with that, 75% of the people I see on SML on any given day are fishing docks. 15% are trolling for stripers and the other 10% are fishing deep stuff out away from everyone else, mixing some docks in here and there. When you arrive, you will immediately notice that the lake has about 200,000 jet-skiers going in all different directions and approximately 150,000 ski boats with people in tow. These people will cut you off repeatedly, ride back and forth past you (really close) at least 10 times before moving on and will irritate you worse than a bad rash. It's just the way it is on Smith though. It has good fish but getting on your spots and staying there without getting seasick from the neverending waves is a task in itself. You will need to bring a carolina rig, some football jigs, some deep cranks and some big worms.....and try to fish at night.

Slow night on Boone
Easy there Burley....that first fish is a little over 'dink' size. And what happened to your super cool 'stache? Time for a screen name change?

**HELP** Brush Piles
In my opinion, #3 is the most important thing when sinking brush. If you drop them in the right spots, 1, 2, and 4 really dont matter that much. When you can find structure offshore that is presently barren of any cover, you've found a great spot. Sinking brush on that spot makes it even better. I try to sink brush deep enough so that it cant be seen by someone just looking down in the water. I'm usually at least 15' down to 25' when I sink brush. A good contour map will help tremendously. You can locate likely spots with a good map. I try to sink brush on spots that allow the fish using the brush, quick access to deeper water, as in near the main channel. Bigger bass move onto structure in deeper water during the summer months. The shad are usually out on the main lake and summer is the time when brushpiles are most effective. Big creeks with nice defined, deeper channels can also hold fish all summer if the water is deep enough and cool enough for a healthy shad population to survive. If you know of any spots that always hold shad, look for a hump or point or some kind of structure in that area and sink some brush. It's good to have an idea of where the bass are likely to spend their summers, then drop some brush around these spots to try to draw them into a smaller area. If you just go out and drop brush randomly, you probably wont have much success picking fish off of those piles. Location is the single most important thing when sinking brush.

I'm talking about are the hard body, jointed swimbaits. I dont think they've been out very long but i could be wrong about that.
