  1. Welcome! Yeah, and like previously said, that could fill a book... but I would start off new waters with fish finder baits, stuff to cover a lot of water with like lipless cranks or spinnerbaits. I would also suggest taking your question over to the Tournament Talk section and see if anyone there can more accurately answer you
  2. Thanks Bob, that's really helpful. I'll bring it to their attention.
  3. there IS no legal limit. it is a neighborhood pond that only I (and maybe one or two others) fish. I fish all the time and occassionally get rid of some fish, but I'm really not supposed to I think...
  4. anytime rob. that help any?
  5. Thanks HG I've read those articles on the BR and they've kept me entertained for hours researching and whatnot. My main problem is this is a neighborhood lake and the management responsibility falls to the neighborhood board. I don't see the enlarging of our fish becoming priority to them. They have it shocked once in a while but they don't bring much of the actual managing into the equation. Any suggestions on how I could pitch it to em?
  6. Ok Rob... here is what I would suggest. Those big she-bass are hangin' a little far out from the beds, but not tooo far. They are just done spawning but not all have spawned yet (the ones I caught were just finishing). For the morning (if you get there and the light is still low) I would fish some topwater around those docks and crank around a little with a rattlin rap or some shallow diving crankbait. As it warms up those bass are moving a little bit deeper (notice how I caught the 9 pounder a little ways from the dock and it was later in the morning and my friend was catchin em in a few feet of water in the afternoon). I would switch to a T rigged worm or fluke and work the areas around those docks and trees. Don't be afraid to crank around a little with some deeper diving cranks. The algae isn't everywhere and you will be working a little deeper water anyway (especially near those docks and points). I'd keep the worm pattern going into the afternoon, possibly taking off the weight to slow it down as it heats up even more. In late afternoon to dusk you could go back to the topwater and crank around some more in a little shallower water. As for colors, it depends on the day. Yesterday was very clear and the darker colors were showing up and working very well (black/blue, watermelon, green pumpkin, etc.). But if you go and the water is murky and clouded like it was when I caught the nine, those brighter colors like I was using with the rattlin' rap will work pretty well (however don't count out the dark colors if it's sunny over there) Hope that helps RBA
  7. Well, for those of you who read my thread about my small bass problem, I read up on it and it appears that I have a stunted lake. Due to the overpopulation and lack of sufficient forage base, the bass only grow big enough to spawn and no more, creating a huge population of miniscule bass. If anyone has dealt with this before or has any suggestions on what I should do, I'd appreciate it
  8. Well I read up on pondboos forum and I think the bass in my lake are stunted. I know what the deal is now, has anyone dealt with stunted bass before???
  9. Ok first of all, it was gettin down to bout 12 degrees down here for a while (VERY cold for GA). We had a pretty cold winter this year, and I DID see a few of the bass when they exploded out of the water... not cats
  10. *cough* Hey don't call me out bud! I know what happened on my lake. I got hits on a topwater snake in sub 40 weather. I didn't catch any because I was settin' the hook before they could get the 11" snake in their mouth, but I definitely got hits... THAT'S NO BS!!! Probally wasn't bass! Wasn't bass??? I'm fishin a small stocked pond in Georgia... the only other thing in the pond is a handful of catfish and grass carp and some bluegill... IT WAS BASS!
  11. I'm fishin a neighborhood pond that nobody else really fishes (that's why there is no way to harvest).
  12. yeah sorry that was worded wierd guys.. I meant that there is probably only 1 or 2 tens IN THE LAKE... or maybe none at all now... I haven't caught/seen one in over 3 years. I've been fishing this lake for a LONG time... I've tried everything from T-rigged 10 inch worms to topwater snakes to deep diving crankbaits. I'm almost convinced the quality insn't there. I wish I could take y'all fishin there so you know what I mean. On a good lake the average size will be much bigger, but in my lake you catch the same tiny size (1 lb. and under) EVERYWHERE and ALL THE TIME
  13. *cough* Hey don't call me out bud! I know what happened on my lake. I got hits on a topwater snake in sub 40 weather. I didn't catch any because I was settin' the hook before they could get the 11" snake in their mouth, but I definitely got hits... THAT'S NO BS!!!
  14. yeah... we need to either start selectively harvesting fish or stock it with more bait like shad or something... there is barely any bait at all right now
  15. I have seen bass goin after snakes on several occassions... so I took the SAFER.. thought slightley more expensive... route: Doug Hannon's Original Fishing Snakes. I haven't gotten to use them much yet, but I tossed 'em on a clear winter day at 38 degrees and I was gettin hits on topwater!
  16. Well some of y'all remember my post about help with deep water tactics... I'm catchin bunches in deep water in my lake now.. but they are ALL TINY!!! Every bass I catch in that lake is tiny. My friend and I estimated there are probably hundreds and hundreds of bass 1 pound or less, a handful of 5 or less, perhaps 10 or so above 5, and maybe 1 or 2 10's on any given day... MY LAKE IS AWEFUL! I'm tired of numbers, it can be fun to catch 20 bass in an hour or so to show off to your friends sometimes, but I've been bitten by the big bass bug and it's not the same anymore. The lake is managed by the neighborhood commity and they have all the say. Should I petition for better management/stocking plans? and just to clarify things, that bass in my avatar pic is NOT from my lake... its from a lake about 45 minutes away that I RARELY get to go to
  17. Hey how do I make it so the pictures show up on the page instead of as a link???
  18. My friend and I decided to give a new lake a shot yesterday. It was 45 degrees and windy with a bluebird sky. I had never fished the lake before so I tied on a firetiger Rattlin' Rapala as my go-to fishfinder. On the second cast I horsed in a lil 1 pounder. Not a bad start to the day on the new lake. Two casts later, I was workin the trap along a rocky shore and was about to lift it out of the water when a very nice lookin she-bass boiled on it. My friend and I were ecstatic as played in and lipped a 6 pounder. The digi read 5.9 and we snapped a few photos and released it. We were unsuccessful in a small cove we tried so we moved over to a dock on a rocky shore. I cast the trap right to the dock and it got whacked about 10 or 15 feet out. I knew it was a good fish and my friend and I started wooping when we saw it surface... IT WAS HUGE! I played it in carefully, it was barely hooked in the top lip. I couldn't stop laughing and hollering when I finally lipped that big mamma. I probably could have fit both fists in her mouth. The digi read 9.0 and we snapped a few pics of the bucketmouth and released it... the rest of the day was a lil slow, only producing a few 1's and a 3, but it was a great day, especially for a new lake.
  19. Yeah the articles on this site have kept me occupied for hours at a time.. but I know you're involved in your little young angler thing and I think that is pretty cool and would love to write up something (I'm very good at writing up fishing stories (trips and days on the lake)) check out some of these articles first though
  20. thanks for the responses guys. I do throw out a few small few every other time I go and stuff... but I can't do it alone. I got one of those lil depth finders that you tow behind your boat and it shows up on a watch, but it aint very good and i'm not to keen on reading stuff like that anyway... i don't really get why it is constantly moving and I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at
  21. Thanks Paul! That's what my fishin report buddy told me That was on that legendary golf course lake I used to talk about so much. It'll be great if I start keyin in on the hawgs like you bud happy fishin
  22. and actually i forgot to mention... like the biggest smallmouth on the hotdog.... i landed my biggest largemouth while fishing for catfish with a piece of cut bluegill... 10 lber, wasn't a cat, but I ain't complainin
  23. Yeah they love carp fishing over in Europe, lots of huge ones come out of France. I got grass carp (imported from Germany) in my lake and they'll only hit bread or a green wooly booger. I've caught multiple fish over 10, my best being a 47 lber taken on a piece of bread floating on top at night
