If you had to pick one Pike bait...
Mepps inline spinner. Preferably with a dressed treble. They kill 'em here in the east. A close second would be a beefy topwater plug ala Zara Spook.

where are the reels made
There are only so many countries in the world. Sooner or later as the third world countries catch up and their workers start demanding decent wages and conditions, then where will you get your pennies a day labor ? The Middle East ? NOT.

Did you ever.........
.......tie on a new bait with mono, bite the tag end of the knot off, then when you tried to spit it out it somehow it slides down your throat ? I did this last night. I sounded like I was yakking up a hairball. This nonsense went on for about half an hour until it worked itself out far enough for me to get it. I had snot running out of my nose for God's sake. My buddy was laughing so hard I thought he was going to fall out of the boat ;D I would have done the same if it was him. I know, I know, "why didn't you use clippers, etc." but when the bite is hot we all do it. HEIMLICH!!!

Even Germany, which was known for years as a producer of high quality precision goods, outsources.

Woodstock - 40th anniversary
Best true Woodstock moment - Who guitarist Pete Townshend hitting hippie leader Abbie Hoffman across the head with his guitar because Hoffman jumped onstage during the Who's set to make a political rant. I'd sit in the mud for three days to see that !

Every 10 year old boys dream!
I used to have pet Tarantulas and scorpions as a kid. Used to feed the Tarantula 'pinkies' - newborn blind hairless mice.

Help choosing spinning rod and reel
Generally speaking, a 6'6" MF rod would be a good general purpose stick. If you are just starting out, don't get all wrapped up with technique specific stuff yet. Keep it simple for now.

Hey all of you tube gurus.....
I posted this question in the tackle section in the "Tubes" thread but that thread withered out. Here goes: What's your take on ribbed (ring) tubes ? I don't see them mentioned when a tube discussion pops up. I got some 4" green pumpkin ones from *** - http://*.com/disctube and they look great. I figured I'd ask the smallmouth crew as you seem to use tubes more than most.

Fishing after rain
Some guys, myself included, "fish the fronts". Several hours before a storm can be very productive. I believe it's tied in to the changes in barometric pressure. It's not a sure hit, but works more often than not. As long as there is no lightning, fishing in the rain can be great also.

New ride
I bought a new Toyota truck in 1985. It died on me in 1999. 14 years, over 250,000 miles. Nuff said.

Golf vs Fishing
Quote "They call it golf because all of the other four letter words were taken" - Unknown. Golf messes with me. It gives me just enough decent shots to keep me from quitting entirely, then laughs in my face. Kind of like Lucy pulling the football away from Charley Brown.

Here ya go. He has a craw tube also. http://*.com/disctube

Tubes
Not trying to hijack here, but since all of the tube gurus seem to be here, whats your take on ribbed tubes ? I just picked up some of Brent's 4" disc tubes and they look awesome. The Yum Vibra King is the only other one I've seen like it. I don't hear much about them when the subject of tubes comes up.

"Brand Guy"
I was a Shimano guy many moons ago. Now I'm a Flooger dude. Don't bother asking why, it don't matter. A few years from now it may be different. I own rods by St. Croix, Daiwa and BPS. The St. Croix is my first high falutin' rod and I'm happy with it.

Help choosing spinning rod and reel
I was (still am) a diehard Trilene fan. I found the Sufix in the clearance bin at Wally World last year, so I grabbed it up. I've been very happy with it so far. I fish a lot of plastics and I don't have a problem with the sensitivity. As with everything else around here, there are a million opinions on line. Find something that works for you and stick with it.

Help choosing spinning rod and reel
Good luck with your new rig. Here's some tips: Choose your line carefully. Don't go too heavy, 8lb test MAX, preferably 6lb. Sufix Elite or Trilene XL are good choices. With the drag set properly, 6lb is plenty. Don't overspool. Leave about 1/8" of the spool lip showing. VERY IMPORTANT Always close the bail by hand after EVERY cast. Using the handle to close the bail = major line troubles.

Bait smells(from factory)
The Tiki smell is mostly anise. You can purchase anise oil, but it is very $$$. You can get anise in the spice aisle at the grocery store and mix it with mineral oil, which is colorless and odorless. It will not harm your plastics. I found an old Tiki Stick on the floor of my boat and it still stunk!
