Ever catch one of these on accedent?
i caught a hooded sweatshirt up in northern wi once. Washed it up and wore it for a few years. There was chapstick in the front pocket too....you could see how far the water had penetrated over time when you ran the stick all the way out....so my dad cut off the end......AND USED IT!!! lol......nasty! we never let him live it down either. I mean, I felt kind of weird wearing the sweatshirt...but using the chapstick??!?! ;D ;D ;D

Gile Flowage, WI - Looking for tips!
Hi guys! My father-in-law and I are headed up to his cabin near Hurley, WI at the end of this month, and are going to be fishing the Gile Flowage. We are going to be targeting Smallies and Musky. Does anybody have some tips for us?? So far, I have seen from garmin rec. lakes and fishing hotspots, that we should mainly target the shoreline and small coves on the west side of the flowage. Additionally, we will only be running fast in the deepest parts of the lake, so as to miss teh shallow boulders etc. but thats all i know so far!! Anybody know anything that would help??? thanks!! Scott

Fisher Bass Boats
I just bought a 1990 semi vee about 2 weeks ago. (http://www.scolba.com/boat.html) So far i'm happy with it! Its got an all aluminum deck, so you don't have any rot...thats pretty nice. The layout and storage is quite nice as well. I also looked at a marsh hawk a few days before i bought this one and was pretty impressed by the layout as well. They seem to have been really well thought out. I probably would have bought that, but i really wanted a vee, not a mod v. what model are you looking at, and is it new or used?

Deep V Bass boat or a "real" Bass boat. Need opinions please
I had the same delima that you had. I too was looking at both deep vee's and bass boats. I think that you will find that the fit and finish of bass boats to be better than that of a deep vee. So if that is important to you, then there is your answer!! Bass boats also draw less water, so if you want to be in shallow, you def want a bass boat. If you find yourself out on wide open (=windy and choppy) lakes a lot, or if you troll a lot, You will probably want a deep vee. For me, it came down to availability and price. I found that there were very few Deep Vee's near me (more common in your neck of the woods), so I would have to be driving at least 5+ hours to get a good deal. The ones that were near me were obsurdly overpriced. Ultimately I ended up setteling on a hybrid...an aluminum semi-vee bass boat. It was 15 min from my house and was right in my price range....so kind of made my decision for me. Either way you go, its going to be an upgrade, so I'm sure you'll be happy with it!

Help Looking for Lake!
i dunno where you guys are talking about specifically...but.... ...have you tried using http://maps.google.com and switching to satelite view once you get near the area? if you stay zoomed out a bit you can cover a lot of area quickly....water is typically pretty easy to spot, even zoomed out quite a ways.... good luck!

How to prevent rust from spreading on trailer
depends....if its rusted through, you really should rethink a patch. If not, then you could give the POR-15 system a try. http://www.por15.com/

Charging boat batteries from the pull vehicle? Is this done already or can it be?
Sounds like a good idea to me....some thoughts though, at least how i would do it if i were doing it.... i'd put the connection between the trailer and the boat near the bow, that way those high power lines never have to go in the water. then run the wire in the boat back to the batteries from the front. Then, for the actual connectors, I would find something that can "break away" easily and maybe have a spring connecting the line back to the trailer. Then I'd want to have a good strong mounting point on boat connection. That way it would be ok in case you forget to unhook before puttin 'er in the water. I know I would forget at least once.....

Hydrofoils - you guys use em?
ok, follow up question then... Do you guys have stock props on there? (except for W2S... of course he doesn't! ) The reason i ask is because i have a aftermarket SS prop on mine that already helps w\ hole shot. So im wondering if the hydrofoils are a cheaper alternative to replacing the stock prop? OR, since my current prop limits my top end a bit, but gets me up on plane real fast, could i change pitch for a little more top end, and add a hydrofoil to get my on plane better with the new prop....get what i mean?

Lake Wilson
at the base of wheeler dam (E end of the lake) theres a current that runs right between two big metal power line towers that yeilds smallies when the water is running. to the N of those towers is an island where they get caught around too....

Hydrofoils - you guys use em?
Hey Guys, I was just curious...do you guys use the hydrofoils on your boats? I was looknig at StingRay, SE Sport, etc and was curious about them. My pops has one on his runabout and loves it, but I didn't know if it would make a difference on dedicated fishin boats as well. I have a 90 HP Merc, and a pretty light boat, so ill be running close to or just over 50 mph at WOT, so dunno if I would benefit from one or not.

oil pump and transom saver question
good deal, its not a FI motor, so premix it is!! thanks! so do you know if there is a bleeder screw type thing, or will just running it on premix push any air through? its a 1990 Merc 90HP. Thanks for the transom saver info too!! I'll run the pegs down before takin it out for the shakedown.

oil pump and transom saver question
Good deal, thanks for the tips guys! I think im going to lower the transom saver one more notch and see how it looks... As for the oil issue, i actually got oil through most of the new lines already, but just not the one line that goes in between the pump and what looked like a smaller version of the fuel pump. its only about 2"-3" of line there, so not much. I guess ill just premix the first tank, see if i can find a bleeder screw in one of the assemblies and run it out?

oil pump and transom saver question
Hi Guys, I rebuilt the carbs on my 90HP Merc today, and while pulling them off the Oil lines basically crumbled. So I replaced them, all fine and dandy, but I was wondering, do the oil lines need to be primed or anything to get the air out of the system? If so, how do you do that? Or will just running it on a hose push all the air through?? Second question.....what is the correct angle for the motor to be at when traveling? I got a new transom saver, and wasn't sure what the proper setup should be. Here is how I have it now... Thanks!!!

Problem launching my boat
the site i nabbed that pic from had them for $116 w\ idler hubs up to 95" wide...but i can't immagine the shipping would be too pleasant. Maybe see if you have a redneck trailer, or that type of store nearby and get them to give you a quote. http://www.trailerpart.com/35kdroptraileraxle.htm you would have to be sure you aren't creating any other problems by doing that first, though...ya know?

Problem launching my boat
what about maybe going with a wider drop axle, and then moving the fenders? you'd have to get a longer drop for your hitch too, then....

WOOO!! Just bought a fishing boat!!!
Thanks guys!!! yeah, you guys have me convinced, though my wife is less than happy about it!! LOL! I will hold off, save one detail...maybe. Do you guys know of any product that i can apply to the seats to make them less "crunchy"? some kind of vinyl oil or something like that?

WOOO!! Just bought a fishing boat!!!
thanks guys!! yeah, im picking up a fat boy life jacket tonight (for me). the others in there are good for smaller folks. ;D Yeah, you guys are right...and really the more i think about it, its kind of a no brainer. Electronics it is!! actually, the one on there is kind of an odd ball fishfinder....at least to me. Its a Bottomline brand, but the wierd thing is is that its only like 1" thick! i have never seen that kind before!

WOOO!! Just bought a fishing boat!!!
I am so freakin excited I can hardly sit still!!!!! So I just had to share. Picked up a 1990 Fisher SV-18 GT w\ a 90 HP Merc last night!! pics at http://www.scolba.com/boat.html So now the questions begin. I have some upgrade money set aside, but figure I can only do a few things right away. Should I upgrade the electronics, or fix the seats first? The seats are faded and chracked look crappy......but electronics find fish!!

Looking at a "new to me" boat - Fisher SV-18 - Any info?
hey foo! yeah, the seller mentioned to me that he thought the hull was rived AND welded? I thought that was kind of strange, but if so, cool! Extra burly! So since you are familiar with the hull style...its it going to accomodate a kicker plate ok? same old question..........
