  1. Yeah, that makes sense....however... lol..theres always a "but", isn't there?? http://www.scolba.com/rec/ironcountymaps/pine.gif on this map....you can see one rectangle in the middle of the lake down where it goes to 41 feet deep. I fished that one this spring and can tell you....its DEEP!! ;D But there is still that stinkin dotted line there! Corn-fusing!!! But thanks for the good wishes on the new lake! Its always a bit nerve racking to try a new one...espeically the first one above....it has a max depth of 17' and 10.5% of the lake under 3 feet!! You can bet I'll be going slow!! ;D
  2. Hi guys, I'm researching some lakes for a trip to N. Wisconsin this fall, and noticed a marking that wasn't shown in the key. Its the dotted lines around the peremiter of the lake. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to mark something special, or if those are maybe the edges of the vegetation???? Can any map master clue me in? http://www.scolba.com/rec/ironcountymaps/island.gif (the image is very large. If its small at first, you should be able to expand it within the browswer window, still.) Thanks!!
  3. This may be a really dumb question, but bear with me! :-[ I am really friggin tired of standing on my head to get the plug in and out of my bilge! So is there a way to change my boat to an external plug? I am a little leery of using the normal rubber expanding plug (t handle twist type) on the outside, unless you fine folks can tell me that its standard practice. I did a bit of google-ing on the subject and got mixed results. So can you guys help me out??? Is there an adapter kit or something that you can use to change it to a threaded fitting or something? Thanks!
  4. mine has 2 valves right near the drivers seat...one for each live well. It says push to fill, pull to empty. Then I also have an aerator. Im embarrased to say I haven't really figured out the valve thing. :-[ It doesn't seem to do what it says, and I just haven't spent the time to figure it out, so I use the aerator and a plug to fill it. ;D
  5. Hey Folks, I am in need of a GOOD boat cover. It will be for both winter storage outside, as well as summer and trailering. My boat is a 1990 Fisher SV-18 GT (18ft bass style aluminum boat) I was wondering if anybody on here has any experience with those places that you can put in the make and model of your boat and get a 'custom' cover out of it? Do they fit nice and snug like a custom cover should?? Also, can anybody recommend the correct material type/weight that would fit my needs?? Or any other suggestions of cover brands, etc? Thanks a lot for any input!!
  6. yeah man...i like those hybrid stripes. One of the lakes that i fish regularly is a power plant cooling lake that they do really well in. The power company actually just donated 50,000 fingerlings because the numbers were starting to dwindle, so another few years and its gonna be AWN!(again!) edit: oh yeah...we've been real successful trolling w\ fat free fingerlings and fat free shads in citrus shad, white, or white w\ purple or grey back.
  7. ah sweet!! thanks for the tip! We had talked about heading to TFF but decided not to since it was so much larger than Gile and Pine lake that we didn't really know where to start. Next time we are up there (this fall) we'll definitely hit it up!!
  8. Hey guys...got a question.....I'm sitting here watching battlestar, making walleye spinning rigs and i got to wondering.....the kit i got came w\ two types of spinner blade clevises. One is the folded type, the other has flat pieces at each end with holes in them. So whats the difference in them?? I have only been using the folded type, cause thats what I know.....so can anybody help me out? Thanks!!
  9. Thanks!!!! It was actually Pine Lake, in Iron County. The island you see in the background is the northern most island on the lake, and is state owned island for camping. If you go to http://maps.google.com and put in 46.265141,-90.141342, thats the point that I caught the first guy. 8-)
  10. Thanks guys! In reading about musky after the fact (in other words, I didn't plan it this way ), I guess its good to downsize your lure for early season musky, and not use those mega lures like you do in summer and in fall. The first fish was caught in relation to a laydown (they like wood/trees as cover) on a rocky point, w\ cabbage about 5 yards away. The second was caught in relation to reeds (seen in the picture) and cabbage together Here's a pic of the mepps I was using! It was also a cloudy/rainy day, and I'm pretty sure thats important. Oh yeah, I know for a fact that my home lake (about 5 miles from me) has an IL state record muskie in there. She was netted during the last survey, so my fish focus might be changing!!! ;D Edit: sorry, its was actually a gold spinner, not a silver one.
  11. thanks man! They were both really exciting to catch....mainly because they were both right next to the boat when I set the hook. I was using a number 5 mepps aglia (actually the same thing i caught the smallies on), and i watched them both follow the lure in and grab it!!! but then they kept swimming towards the boat, rather than dive right away....so i reeled up as much as i could without adding any pressure to the line....then...YANK and zzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!! The bigger one only stripped out about 15 yards or so, but the smaller one thought he was a 50 lber!! ;D He stripped out probably 30, then another 10 after i had gotten him close again! What a blast!!
  12. this is the 35"
  13. WOO!! I'm stoked!! was out fishing for a long weekend up in N. Wi these past few days and landed these 37" and 35" muskies! All fish were released! Also ended up with a few 3 lb smallies, but I forgot to take pics of them!! DOH!
  14. ah yeah, thats a good point. I guess I'm more wondering about the health of the engine...is it better to run closer to the upper end of the RPM range, or is lower ok....I'm really leaning towards keeping it at 17..mainly because its cheaper to just leave it. ;D
  15. Hey Guys, I ended up having to put a new motor on my boat recently.....kind of a long story, but the hard lesson I learned is to get a boat checked out by a mechanic before buying it!! UGH!! Anyway....the boat is a 1990 Fisher SV-18 GT (18' aluminum bass boat style, not a deep vee or a jon). It used to have a 90 HP Merc on it, but now has a 1994 75 HP on it. The prop on it is a 17p, and at WOT I'm running about 4950 and doing 33.3 mph max (GPS), when its just me in the boat. So from what I have seen online, the suitable rpm range for this motor is 4750-5250, so I am already in that range. Also what I have found from calculations is that I am getting 3%-4% slippage. That sounds pretty dern good to me! So here's my question....will my motor be happier, more fuel efficient, or better off in general running at 5150 w\ a 16p prop?? I know my top speed won't change much if at all. Or, is running at 4950 w\ the 17p going to be just fine? The gear ratio is 2.30:1, btw... I would appreciate any input that you guys have on the matter!! Thanks!
  16. Definately steel leaders!! a few 12" at 30-50 lbs should be sufficient. For a good time w\ northern, pick up a red/white dardevle, a 5 of diamonds, and a pounded copper. Those are the most successful spoons I have used up in the northwoods.
  17. I think they are actually Trion's. But even so, I would second this reel choice, or even just go for the actual Pflueger Trion....its a pretty inexpensive reel, and personally I have been very VERY pleased with them!!!!
  18. WOW!! That is really cool of you! I sent an email as well!
  19. You have the same truck that my dad has. He tows his 19' Chapparal open bow with it and does ok. Brakes would be nice, but then, that boat is WAY heavier than the one that you are looking at. You aren't going to win any races, but you'll get where you are going.
  20. i would mix up a two part epoxy....i don't think duct tape would hold back pressure if on the inside, and would peel off if on the outside.
  21. Has anyone ever tell you that you look like the guy from the movies knocked up and superbad? LMAO! ;D ;D ;D Actually, YEAH! My wife's unlce has said that before...honestly, I don't see it....but obviously others do! thats pretty funny.
  22. me and the wifey out cruisin w\ my parents on Lake Wilson, AL.
  23. Well, thats kinda what I was thinking....but I had to ask to be sure. We are gonna be on the Gile Flowage for most of the time, and maybe head to TFF one day...I'll just tell my F-I-L he can just deal with it. ;D Edit: Oh yeah...people have definately accused me of being nuts before! but not to the point of putting myself or others in harms way 8-)
  24. I was actually wondering the same thing....specifically about Superior. Me and my father in law are headed to fish in WAY north WI in 2 weeks, and he keeps suggesting that we put my boat (18' aluminum bass style) in Superior. But i gotta tell ya...its got me really nervous....Superior can get way nasty! .....But if there are good smallies to be found (and if its a CALM DAY!!!), I might be coaxed into putting in.
  25. Bueller? Bueller? ;D Anyone? Ice out up there was around May 2nd, right?
