  1. The Vision series are some of my favorites. I have caught some giants on them. I book marked this write up and it has some good info. Hope this helps. https://randyblaukat.wordpress.com/2011/02/15/megabass-jerkbaits-what-are-the-best-treble-hooks-for-them/
  2. I wouldn't buy anything but an auto if I was going that rout but then again I wear a foam padded impact life jacket. Every time I see where someone dies in a wreck they are wearing an inflatable. They either do not open or they tear in the accident.
  3. Punching has been mentioned so I will add a senko. If you can hit the open holes with it everyone around you will be running to the store to buy senkos.
  4. Trash fish with an 8/0 owner Beast. One of the best weedless swimbaits made. Don't cheap out and buy the sick fish it's not the same bait. There is a lot of secondary action in the fins and they flat out get bit.
  5. I think that genetics are a huge factor. But even with good genetics fish can only grow to there environment. I don't buy into the idea that trout or kokanee have no roll. The spotted bass have blown up over the last several years with the kokanee programs. Before the kokanee 12lbs would win a tournament. Now it can take as much as 30lbs to win. I don't think we are done seeing the spotted bass record being broke. I think it will top out in the 14lb range.
  6. There only a few trout that make it into clearlake from high run off in the mountains but there are hitch. Most of the hitch I have seen are between 4in and 14in. Since the shad population has boomed again the big bait bite has dramatically decreased.
  7. I set the hook on glide baits just like I do on wakebaits. Reel until it loads before you sweep the rod. The rod makes a huge difference also. The wrong rod is going to cause some frustration. I missed a lot of fish when I first started fishing larger glide baits. You also got to remember that the larger the bait is, the more surface area it has with out hooks. So if your getting bit by smaller fish you will be missing some.
  8. Ill cop to it. This time of year I always have a A-rig tied up and I start pulling out the big swimbaits. Really it depends on where I am fishing though. Some lakes are not that good for the big baits or the rig.
  9. You could get away with fishing the 50 on a heavy flippin stick or a punch rod. The BBZ rats get bit. Don't be intimidated by the size.
  10. The fastest way to get good at something is to surround yourself with people that are better than you. Join a club, start fishing the back seat in big events or hire guides. Ask lot's of questions. When you get out there you will meet people that will be willing to help you. There is a lot of good information out there that you can read and build on but there is no substitute for being out there on the water.
  11. Quite a few bags over 30lbs are caught on a shadrap every year out west.
  12. Here are a few good videos on the subject.
  13. If you got water that you can fish a spoon in, I can't think of a better fall numbers bait.

I have had trouble fishing them fast. They tend to blow out but none of mine swim the same either.

    Costa is above the BFL.

The s-waver can be a great bait if you get one that swims right. Key locations and the right angles make all the difference in the world. Try fishing it ridiculously slow.
  17. Every one of my Hinkle's and 3:16 baits have hit the water and will continue to. Because bass don't eat senkos that fall on the bottom. I like Tom's idea.
  18. If your hook up ratio is bad using an o'ring it's most likely your hook that is wrong. On occasion the senko will get stuck on the hook point but that happens with or with out an o'ring. And yes they do extend the life of the bait by quite a bit.
  19. Is there a place that explains how it works?
  20. gobig replied to Catt's topic in Fishing Tackle
I would go with contrast over color
  21. Try fishing out west if you think 8ft is clear water. Best quote I have ever heard about clear water went something like... The water in this lake is clear to the fisherman. But to the bass in this lake, Its all they have ever known.
