  1. Not sure about a trend, maybe lighter? I think the insertless guides need much more TLC. Don't hook your lure in them when storing and be very careful as raw stainless guides are much softer than ceramic and other types of inserts. We use ceramic cutting inserts to machine hardened steel. Do the math. Also ceramic will not nick, it will crack and fall out of the guide letting you know right away you have a problem.
  2. Just saw this and thought the posse might be interested. $20.00 off on Curado G at Fish USA *.
  3. I do seem to remember these but can't offer much help. They do sound similar to Poe's RC1 and 2. I was going through my pile of "hasn't been used in a while" stuff and found 3 of these. They say 4-5 feet deep. Coffin lip and a rattle. Used to catch quite a few on the RC1. Funny how you stray away from baits that work in pursuit of new ones that might work.
  4. How often do yo see a big bass caught by a guy crappie fishing or a huge musky caught by a guy walleye fishing. Stuff like this happens all the time. Not sure I get the meaning behind the academy awards comment.
  5. Wasn't that hawg pushing 20? Or over? You should fire the photographer though. Too much glare.
  6. He's paid his dues and if I could afford it, I'd build and stock a pond like that too- and keep it all to myself.
  7. Me too. Also the palming an comfortable feeling. R.W. quoted some very interesting points. I cast a baitcaster with my right arm and switch it over and am ready to reel by the time the bait hits the water so there is no "lost time". Just feels more natural. Spinning the rod never leaves my right arm. Like Rooster says be sure to flip the bail over manually to avoid loops and twist. I always extend my finger out to make sure there are no loops before starting to reel.Hey Dwight. Who you calling a nerd. I thought thats how everyone does it.
  8. I have yet to see Bill Dance film a bass show on any body of water except his own private pond. As you said, never see another fisherman. I'd love to spend a day with him on that pond. He should run a contest and take the winner fishing!
  9. Off topic but how about a pair of Lake Trout?I still have the paper I scribbled down the weights on and the first two days we had were something special. Over ten each and only one under 3 lbs. Thought I had a gobie on after the footballs we were getting. Then the Steelhead hits and we both thought your had you 8lber. Remember those four days like they were yesterday.
  10. Couple of smaller ones. 5-12 and 5-08
  11. Having a good teacher never hurt my friend!
  12. Like others have said, rating is for capacity, not a recommendation. Usually they will list both Mono and Braid capacity. Like Dwight said, diameter of each will determine capacity. Put on whatever you want. Rods will usually show recommended lure weight but this is just a guideline also. If you're gonna be flipping heavy cover drag won't be much of an issue as you'll probably using 50-65 or even 80# braid with drag cranked down.
  13. I use a Veritas Winch 7' med. Love it.
  14. Take them apart over a tupperware tub or something like that so when the inevitable happens and you drop something, it's not lost in the carpet or floor. When removing bushing retaining springs, be sure to grip them securely so they don't fly off into the sunset. Not expensive to replace but sucks to wait for a new one after you spend an hour looking for the one you lost.
  15. Who is that handsome guy holding up a pair of 6's?.
  16. The Z-Too's and the finesse worms. The Zeros are good till they lose the salt and start floating but then just put 'em on a shakey head or C-rig.
  17. A G series Curado is just a green E series Citica. Shimano didn't raise the price on the Curado when they brought out the G series. They painted the Citica Green and raised the price and called it a Curado. Curado E's are probably one of the most popular reels series ever made. Still sell on Ebay for up to $150.0. Not sure what this has to do with OP though.
  18. I think we gave away our ages Roger.
  19. I have a few tiny Zebco underspins I use for icefishing. Yeah, we ice fish up here. I love them for this application.
  20. As far as the mold, the programming time might be a tad more but the actual machining time would be less. Each half would start with identical geometry but the half with the flat bottom would not machine as deep or machine in any ribs etc. Been doing this kind of stuff for over 30 years. Why I didn't tinker with molds for baits is beyond me. On a shakey head, not to sure a flat bottom would make a great deal of difference. Probably moreso on a dropshot. Could be wrong though.
