Reel oils
I have used and own Ardent, Abu, and hot sauce. They all do the job. Without question, hot sauce provides the best initial performance. However, it needs to be applied more frequently. The other 2 perform just fine and will last a little longer than Hot Sauce. I don't get the death sauce claim. I've used it on dozens of reels for years and never had a problem. I do get my reels professionally cleaned once a year.

mojo bass, carrot stick, or low rider?
LOL please explain why the Carrot is only good for cranking...have you not heard of or seen the 6'9 or 7'3 MH, or the 7'9 XH? They have several other MH and H actions as well that I use for jigs and frogging. And Carrots have the best warranty out of the three, a lifetime over the counter no questions asked warranty... : Defensive? I just personally really like the carrots for cranking. I think they are very good for that application. In fact I am looking to buy one. However, I do not care for them in other applications.. I am glad you like yours.

mojo bass, carrot stick, or low rider?
I wouldnt use the Carrot Stick for anything other than cranking. You cant go wrong with the Lowrider or Mojo. I have both and like them equally. Go with the best warranty which I think is Falcon. Mojo has a 5 year.

Favorite lipless cranks.
1. XR50 (Rayburn red, blue/chrome/orange belly, and foxy shad) 2. Red Eye Shad (east texas Special) The XR50 has produced the biggest fish by far. I love these baits.

Spinning reels
Any Shimano from Sahara and up. Cardinal 500, 700, 800 Pflueger president or supreme

Lucky Craft
I like the pointer and sammy but prefer other crankbaits.

STX or Energy PT or Curado
I have fished with all three and I prefer the Energy PT hands down. It is an awesome reel. The Curado would be my second choice. But the Energy is a significant winner in my book.

mojo
I really like my 6'6"m for jerkbaits and light spinnerbaits. Keep us posted on how it performs.

Whoo Hoo :-)
That smallie is absolutely beautiful!!!!

Been fishing with the ST Croix Mojo
I bought the 6'6"M for jerkbaits. I put an '09 Energy on it and hit the lake all week. There is no question in my mind, this is the best $90 rod on the market. I would be happy paying $150 for this rod. The action is perfect for jerkbaits, topwaters, and even lighter spinnerbaits. The biggest knock on these rods are that they are tip heavy. This just isn't an issue to me. I compared how it balanced to an Avid, Quantum Energy PT, All Star, falcon, and an older Loomis. It did not feel any more tip heavy than the others. The rod loads well, has great action, and I could feel the bottom very well when throwing a finesse jig.(I like a M action for small hair jigs and finesse jigs). Really I don't have anything bad to say about this rod. The look and feel is top notch. However, for $60 more dollars, you can get an Avid that carries a lifetime warranty instead of the 5 year the Mojo has.

My review of the Quantum Energy PT Burner
I was going to get an STX but decided on the Energy. The Energy felt better to me but they are both good.

09 Quantum Energy, Catalyst , Johnny Morris Elite baitcasters
I can't say enough about the Energy. It's the best sub $200 reel I have ever used! I will be buying several more. I'm officially a Quantum fan.

Leaving on a 9 day Bassin Binge!!
Well, my week is over and what a great time! The weather was crazy, storms, cold fronts, warm fronts, WIND and more WIND(I lost 2 hats but recovered my favorite Gamagatsu hat), major changes in water clarity due to the rain. The water was stained at the beginning of the week and chocolate milk by today. It is the dirtiest I can remember the water in non flood conditions. I finally got my tripod and shot a few pics but really didn't catch but one picture worthy bass. I caught between 75-100 bass all week which I am very happy with. Apparently the bigger fish were coming off of secondary points on the original Rogues, atleast that is what every guide I spoke with told me. I got on a pattern of Rayburn Red XR50 traps through the timber in 10-15". The fish have moved off the main points and are staging on secondary points in coves. They were hammering the trap but were all between 12"-17". The spots were extremely aggressive and FAT!! Here is the real captain of the boat! He put in just as much time on the water as I did! A crisp morning bass and my biggest. It was getting late so I had to relocate to pick up dinner The crappie were hammerin the traps! Anytime I found them on my graph, I could let my trap sink to the bottom and bring it through the trees. I caught some slabs doing this. One of the storms that snuck up on me This is Sugar Loaf Mountain and is entirely surrounded by water. Its a big island that holds some good bass. Well thats it for this trip. I am sitting in my recliner at home watching recorded Bass Pros, Bass Champ, One More Cast, and my man Larry Dahlburg. I have another week I have taken off at early May and several weekends in between. I spoke with a buddy of mine today and he said "i bet you are glad to be home and fished out!" at which I replied, "nope, I am staring at a map of Greers right now thinking about other spots to try next time". he just replied, "you're sick"

My review of the Quantum Energy PT Burner
I have spent the last week on the lake fishing with a new '09 Quantum Energy PT Burner reel. I thought some of you would be interested in an honest review of this reel. I put it on a new St Croix Mojo 6'6 jerkbait rod and spooled it with 10lb Yozuri Hybrid. Initially I took the reel apart and cleaned it. It actually came very clean and well lubed from the factory. The reel is very well built and I don't have any concerns about durability. On the water, this reel impressed me over and over. It is a much lighter version than last years model at 7.7ounces(I think). It also felt tighter and better built than last years model. As far as looks, I prefer this color over last years but I don't care about that kind of stuff. I used this reel to throw pointers, X raps, and some small crankbaits. This reel handles any weight lure with equal ease. Some of the days were brutal with 30MPH winds. This is where the Energy's ACSII braking system really shines. The majority of time, I kept it set on 3 but could easily switch it to 6 when throwing into the wind. This kept me from backlashes and allowed me throw effortlessly in all conditions. I find this system far superior to the popular Shimano system. However, I would like to see more adjustability options. There is a sizable difference between a 3 and a 6. I resolved this by loosening the spool very slightly and had no issues. As for the drag, well I certainly haven't tested it this week. I have caught 100 bass and non over 3 pounds. Maybe I will chase the hybrids tomorrow to test it out! The overall function and feel of this reel is superb. It is ultra smooooooooth, casts very well, is light, and versatile. I feel very spoiled by this reel and will be getting more. It is the best reel I have used in the $200 range. ( With the exception of the Chronarchs that were on sale) 9.5 out of 10

Someone broke into my boat last night!!!
Man that ticks me off! My boat was stolen and half sunk last year, They stole all my tackle and 11 rods. Like you said, one of the worst parts is to have those older lures stolen. Best of luck...

Leaving on a 9 day Bassin Binge!!
Hey guys just posting a little follw up. The weather has been terrible BUT I have been lucky to catch some good fish!...nothing to brag about but the numbers have been good. Saturday was 45 and pouring. I didn't get a whole lot done that day. It cleared off late and i caught a few on an olive X Rap. Sunday was beautiful! I spent most of the day throwing pointers, X Raps, and H2O jerkbaits. I found the fish on windy points but was not very confident in the pattern. Again i caught some nice fish in the 2-3lb range. Today, the wind was 25-30mph and miserable to fight. I finally gave up fighting it and hit some coves. Boy was that a good move. I was throwing a red craw colored XR50 and started picking up a lot of nice fish. I caught a few Kentuckys that were so fat they were about to explode! and dang did they fight!!!!! I finally found a pattern of scattered timber on rocky wind blown banks. Anytime i found that combo, I caught fish on the XR50. Tomorrow is supposed to be strong storms all day so i will probably have to wait until Wed. I am going into town to buy a small tripod so i can take pics. I have a photo journal of every fishing trip over the last 5 years. I am tired of missing out when i go by myself. Here are a few terrible cell phone pics so you can see how fat these kentuckys are. Oh and the food has been terrific!! Ribs, smoked chicken, smoked sausage and hamburgers so far Getting ready the first night. This is a deadly combo This is what the structure looks like on Greers Ferry. What would you throw in this ? Just curious Here is just one of many fatties!!! All I have is my cell phone so the pic sucks but you get the idea. Hopefully Ill have a tripud and my cell for the rest of the trip. Talk to ya'll soon!

KVD L&L + Yozuri Hybrid = Good stuff
I was going to post something similar. I just started using this stuff and it has earned itself a perminant place in the boat. I am so impressed with this product. I bought it with expections pretty low but it proved me wrong quickly. I am using 10lb Yozuri Hybrid and couldn't be happier.

LC pointer...?
Academy sells H2O jerkbaits that have copied the LC paint schemes. I have 3 boxes full of x raps, pointers, rogues, jackalls, and the most productive one has been the h2o shadtruese. They have VMC hooks and cost $3.29. Unbeatable!!
-
Who's heading out tomorrow?
I just spent 2 hours organizing and tying on. I'm at greers ferry for the week. I tied on a shadtruese jerkbait, XR50 craw color, Carolina rig, drop shot, PB&J Eakins with paca chunk, fat ika and a crankbait. I can't wait for the morning!

Review of the Quantum Code after a years use...
I like hot Sauce just fine and use it on my reels. I know some say that there is better out there. I am not a lubricant specialist but it works just as goos as my Ardent.

Leaving on a 9 day Bassin Binge!!
Today at 2 I am heading to the lake for a 9 day fishathon.!!! My wife is a teacher and its her spring break so i took off as well. I will be armed with a new St. Croix Mojo 6'6'M for jerkbaits seated with a brand new '09 Energy PT!!!! I also had to pick up 20 new H20 Crankbaits and jerkbaits, that made it impossible to fit all my stuff in my current tackle bag so i got another one of those, some new Gambler drop shot worms, a couple norman suspending cranks, 4 new Xcalibur Xr50 traps, new frog toggs bc rain is in the forcast, 3 racks of baby back ribs for the smoker, 2 whole cornish game hens for beer can cookin, 2 NY strips, enough hamburger meat for the entire forum, brats, pork tenderloin, oh and a bottle of KVD line and Lure conditioner. Hopefully, i will have something to show for it all. Ill post pics if i have any. Have a great week

XCalibur Xr50 Hooks and Split Rings
My guess is that you have gotten a bad one for some reason. I have caught plenty of fish on them and some bruisers as well. They are very strong lures!
