Review of the Quantum Code after a years use...
Both of mine performed as well as the top end models. But they did not have that feel of the top end models. They aren't near as smooth and seemed looser in the handle. However, a good reel with a lot of features for a good price.

avids and mojos?
Thats a good point about the warranty. 5year on Mojo vs life on the Avid.

Review of the Quantum Code after a years use...
I wrote a favorable review of these reels last year and have been asked several times if I still like them. Here are my thoughts. I have caught a ton of fish on both of these reels. I used them as my travel reels when I am on the road for work. These reels perform as good today as they did when I bought them. I like these reels but I don't love them. They are fairly smooth, cast well, easily adjusted, and have held up very well even with some light saltwater use. The drag was tested by a big bull redfish and it also performed well. The reels do have a cheap feel to them. I think its because the frame is composite. They are not neqar as "tight" as higher end reels either. Overall I think these are a decent buy for the price but I would save up and get an aluminum frame reel for close to the same price. I recently sold both of these reels and put that money to an '09 Energy PT(freakin awesome reel BTW). I was not displeased with the reels but I didn't need them either. Just thought some might apprecite it. If you are looking at buying one and absolutely can't go any higher, you will be happy with the reel. If you can save another $50 next month, get a Catalyst. I will post a review of the Energy after I fish it next week. I am going to the lake for 9 straight days of bassin

Baitcaster
My brother has one of these and really likes it. I have only fished with it briefly off the dock. it was smoooth and casts well. Its on sale too http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104109_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1

avids and mojos?
I could see that for sure. My feels pretty well balanced with a reel seated. However, the Avid is a great deal at its price as well. they are both good rods and would take someone fishing side by side to see if the price difference is worth it.

avids and mojos?
I don't have either rod, but if you're going to be picky with the facts then you've got to take into account the fact that the mojo doesn't have nearly as much material in the handle (split grip and no foregrip) so an equally heavy mojo will "feel" heavier because more of the weight is in the blank/rod (forward of the handle) and not in the handle itself. edited to add: guess I should've read the entire thread. firefightn said basically the same thing already. I am hardly being "picky with the facts'. Several people said the Mojos were heavier and that you would get a lighter rod with the Avid. If I was trying to decide on the rod and never felt one, I would have thought the Mojo was a heavy bulky rod. When in fact it is the exact same. Now, if you feel that it balances differently, thats another matter. I find that it balances well with a light reel. I can tell no difference between the 2 rods and i fish with both.

Hybrid Strippers
I catch a lot of them and the best tactics vary greatly with the time of the year. The best way to catch them is to graph a large school and throw large inline spinners. There is a local guide that makes some that are the best I have seen. they will outfish anything else. If you are interested, let me know I will give you the number for them to ship you a few....well worth it! When they are on top, it doesn't matter, they will hit anything. I use a chrome blue spook or a clear spook. Here is a lot of info on Hybrids. There are several pages. http://www.arkansasstripers.com/hybrid-striped-bass-fishing.htm

avids and mojos?
Are there actual differences between these rods? Yes Will it be noticeable to mos anglers? Nope In fact some will find the Mojo to be the better rod bc they are more comfortable with the design. High end rods are certainly great BUT there is a point where they add nothing detectible to the fisherman. i would be willing to bet that if the Mojo was priced higher than the Avid, people would be saying that the Mojo is more sensitive and lighter. No not all rods are the same but a good rod is not much different from a great rod in most cases.

Question for carolina riggers
Honestly, it doesnt matter. A true tungstun setup won't catch you a single extra fish. Go grab some lead weights, glass beads and you will be good to go.

What is the best line conditioner and do you use them?
I used KVD yesterday for the first time on a new reel. I sprayed it on a rag and spooled it through the rag the night before. Does it work? Yup Do I think it makes enough difference to keep using it? Yup Great product

Complete impulse buy!!:St Croix Mojo Bass
I went down to a local lake and fished for about 3 hrs. This is a really good rod. I could feel the bottom very well fishing a tube. I bought the rod for spinnerbaits and it did well with them. I would prefer a 6'6"MH for larger spinnerbaits but for most of them, it works great. It will be a killer jerkbait rod. Overall, I have not fished with a rod in this price range that compares. Oh and the Energy Pt that is strapped to it is AWESOME!

Complete impulse buy!!:St Croix Mojo Bass
When I woke up this morning, I had no idea I would be buying another rod. I was eating next to my favorite tackle store. Sooo, I strolled on in to grab some jigs. I started talking to one if the workers and he was telling me how they can't keep the Mojos in stock. He had a few left and I started playing with a 6'6m topwater/jerkbait rod. The rod felt really good and although I normally throw spinnerbaits on a MH, the action on the M seemed stiff enough for spinnerbaits as well. I tried to talk myself out of it but for $90 I couldn't resist!!! I paired it with a brand new '09 Energy PT. Good looking rig and feels good too. I'll post a review next week. I'm taking off 9 days and heading to the lake for some serious bassin Pardon any errors, sent from Iphone

Carolina rig rods vs. flipping sticks
Absolutely, I don't like many rods over 7' so I use a 7mh for both applications.

Any '09 Quantum Energy PT owners?
$99 for a new energy? Dang I just paid double that! That is a deal!!!!!

when to use lipless vs. when to use cranks
Traps are great search baits! However, I typically throw what I think the best techniques are first. In cold water, that's usually jerkbaits and jigs for me. Whether I catch fish or not, I'll come back with a trap. I am just hoping to pick up a reaction strike with this technique. When it's cold, I fish a larger trap slowly. I have caught more 4-7lb fish doing this. The bigger fish are usually caught on something else. When the water warms up, I'll lead with a lighter faster presentation. During this time, I tend to catch the aggressive fish that want it faster. Basically I use it in cold water for reaction bites and warm water for aggressive fish.

Quantum Accurist Bait Caster?
These are great for a noob. They are the easiest reels to adjust. Put it on 6 and tighten the spool at first. Then you can loosen it up as you get better.

New rods!
AWESOME rods! I love mine....enjoy.

when to use lipless vs. when to use cranks
What speed is your retrieve with traps in early spring? (I assume it is pre-spawn during this time in Arkansas?) When the water temp is still under 50, I throw XR75s and fish them slow. As the fish get more aggressive with warmer water, I prefer the smaller XR50 and fish it faster. I concentrate on shallow points with deep creeks running into them. Typically I work this area over slow with a jerk bait then come back down it with a trap. The bigger fish almost always hit the lipless. I've had the same results on Lake Fork and Monticello as well. Disclaimer: I haven't been able to buy a fish for the last 2 weeks!

Quantum Accurist, BPS Extreme, or Daiwa Megaforce?
I've got 6 BP reels and now have 4 Accurist PTs. The Accurist is a better reel. They are worth the $130 price and a steal at the sale price. Everyone that has them loves them. I have only read one bad review of the Accurist and the guy just got a bad one.

Any '09 Quantum Energy PT owners?
What are your experiences with the new models? I just picked up an Energy Pt and can't wait to get on the water. I really like the ACS braking system on Quantums but the weight has bothered me in the past. I decided to spend $200 on a reel so I started playing with the new models. I have fished with the new Curados and Revos and have several older curados so I was leaning that way. After playing around with the Energy, I had to have one! Ill post a review after I give it some time.

Quantum Accurist Bait Caster?
Hey, I understand. If I got burned like that, and I have, then I will never go back. I have acquired 5 quantum reels and several rods over the last few years and have loved them all. Hopefully my luck will continue.
