  1. I got my Accurist PT burner today. I took it apart to see what it was all about. Its a very well built reel and was lubed with Hot Sauce.(I like Hot Sauce though I know some don't) I will give it a run this weekend. If I like it, Im getting another!!
  2. The large majority of fish in any given lake during this time are not on beds. But I agree this is a topic for another thread. Great show and back on topic.
  3. I have not been on this board long-so I will probably get slapped like a red headed step child for saying this -BUT- if you fish anytime during Feb,March, you are catching alot of fish "off of the bed" so whats the difference if you can see them...we chase tails on reds and chunk lures at em all day, whats the difference-not being a smart arse-just curious.I guess what I am saying is-I see alot of bass in the weeds and structures during this time-if I can see them I am suppose to pass on them?? No its a good question. I know that I have caught bed fish before. However, many fish on their beds have lock jaw. They will only bite to defend her bed. I do not target these fish. I also don't tell anyone that they shouldn't. Its a personal decision that i have made. I also think it is extremely boring no matter how big she is. I watched a guy sit on a fish for 4 houes last year until he gave up. During that time I caught a lot of fish. The fish he was after was probably 8-10 pounds. I would rather actually fishh all day then flip white tubes and lizards at 1 ten pounder.
  4. I have always thought that there is way too much emphasis on the latest and greatest and also on equipment. There is nothing wrong with having great stuff but some people act like you can't possible feel a hit without a $300 rod....and how can you land a fish without a steez? All equipment today is better than what we had even just 20 years ago.
  5. I thought it was a great show! I also like that it was done on a non sportsmans channel. National Geographic did a great job as usual. I have it recorded and will watch it again.
  6. Its an interesting story but atleast there was no paperwork submitted for the record. I leave big fish alone when I see them on a bed but I guess it might be different if it was the world record.
  7. LC is proud of their stuff for sure. I doubt I will be buying any of those. I will stick with War Eagle as well.
  8. Night fishing Ouachita is one of my favorite fishing trips. I go several times a year and usually catch some really nice fish. throw a big black spinner that throws a lot of vibration. I have a local guy that makes mine but I know there are others. SLOW roll it on the outside of the hydrilla and hold on. Hamilton will be a mad house during the day and be very careful at night! Tons of drunks flying around with their lights off.
  9. Thanks I will check it out. It doesn't have to be great, most fish I catch are smaller and a lot of creek smallies.
  10. Eakins PB&J is my favorite jig. This time of year, I fish it slow. Aggressive fish want it hopped and will hammer it on the way down. However, in colder water, I have found that a slower crawl is more productive. The fish will pick it up off the bottom when it is still. Winter and early spring are great time to use these. It's also a time a throw a lot of jerkbaits. You can tell what the fish wanton a jig by gauging how they react to a jerkbait. If they want a slower less erratic jerk like a pointer, then fish the jig slow and on the bottom. If they want a slash style jerk like an X Rap, then fish the jig faster by hopping it or swimming it. If I'm fishing it on the bottom, I like a smaller chunk trailer. The fish aren't as aggressive and will be more likely to pick up a finesse bait. If I'm hopping it, I want a big chunk to make it fall slower and have a larger profile. One thing is for sure, the trailer is every bit as important as the jig in my experience. Hope this helps. EDITED to add a story Two years ago I was fishing this same jig, covering a lot of water and hopping it along the bottom. I had not gotten the slighest hit. All of the sudden I hear a pretty loud F Bomb from my partner in the back of the boat. He had managed to stick a rat l trap in his calf. I dropped my rod and went over to help him. It wasn't too bad and i got the hook out with out having to cut the barb. Anyway, it took about a minute or two. I quickly realiuzed i had not reeled in my line and it was probably wrapped around a tree. I went over and started reeling it in quickly when i realized it was hauling A@$ sideways. So I reeled in the slack and set the hook. About 3 minutes later i pulled in a beautiful 6.5 pounder. From that moment on, we fished it slow and on the bottom. We ended up having a nice day with 5 fish over 4 pounds and a bunch under. That jig was sitting on the bottom for several minutes without being moved and that big girl just slurped it right up.
  11. IMO the quality of the bearings are more important than the number. 5 is the magic number I look for...anything else is just a bonus.
  12. Dang, I'll check Gander tomorrow. $100 is a steal.....the PT Energys are awesome reels!
  13. I use a 7" All Star Carolina Rig with 50 Suffix Performance braid with a flouro leader. or A bass Pro extreme 7"H with the same line combo. I do not like longer rods... Falcon makes a great one called the lizard dragger.
  14. Seaguar for me but I do not use flouro on spinning tackle.
  15. I should have it in time for next weekend. I'm heading to the lake fri-sun. I will give a review when I return. I have never fished a burner reel before so I don't know how I will like it. But if I do, I'll order another before they sell out. Does anyone know where I can get an Energy on sale from last year?
  16. I use hot sauce on all of my reels regardless of brand.
  17. I just picked up an Accurist PT burner. Was $130 now $60!!! Can't go wrong there....
  18. There are good deals on the Accurist right now. I have thrown most Quantum at some point but not this one. How is it?

These are my favorite's by far. Pointers, Xcaliber Xt3 andXs4, and the X raps are my favorites. Below are some of my top colors. The X rap is the best buy IMO. http://www.***.com/descpageXCALRIP-XT3TB.html# http://www.***.com/descpageXCALRIP-XCSB.html# http://www.***.com/descpage-RXR.html http://www.***.com/descpage-RXR.html# http://www.***.com/descpageHDRLUCKY-LCPT.html# And the classic Smithwick Rattlin Rogue...Gold with Orange belly is a must have!!
  20. Totally different for me. I use BHs texas rigged into thick cover and its one of my best producing big bass baits. Obviously lizards can be fished the same way. However, I use them more for carolina rigs and smaller fish.
  21. Action and color matter but I do not believe detail does. Detail catches a lot of fisherman though:)
  22. I liked these tubes but have no idea if the scent helps. They are fairly durable, have 2 sizes and a good color selection.
  23. Here is what I am looking for. I travel the state for my job and I am surrounded by great fishing. However, I have my company car and there just isn't room for a rod. Obviously I can't pull my bass boat with my company car so I fish the bank during this time.(its actually kind of fun) It makes me get creative!! I am thinking about getting a travel kit that can go under the seat or in the trunk and be stowed out of the way. That way I could just keep it in the car. I have seen them in padded cases. Do any of you have one you would recommend?
